Would anyone have believed, I wonder, at the end of the 1960s, that we'd be seeing steam taking 12 coaches up Shap unassisted, on a more or less regular basis, nearly ten years into the 21st century? it's something worth thinking about, isn't it.
Sure is, I seem to remember the railway press were predicting the end for steam over Shap once the new Virgin timetable came into operation, yet there seems to have been more than ever this year
What can i say Austin, perfect to my eyes, loved every minute,a mixture of delight, one of the best i have seen, but i have learned to expect it from one of my top entertainers
Lovely clips Austin, loved the Birkett Common trip :) Although can't help but think the Black 5 was doing far better on the previous Sunday ;) Maybe i'm just biased haha. Keep the great work coming.
Beautiful video Austin. On the climb to Garswood were you peering through a horrible green fence? If so I nearly went there but have caught Lizzie there before so luckily went elsewhere. Hooray, I've appeared in an Austin video (just come into view at 3:51 - to the left of a telegraph pole). Fame at last. From where I was Shap Wells hill looked empty and by the time Lizzie arrived the sun had got round to your side. Jammy beggar ;o) Chris
Thanks very much Chris, I remembered your shot from last year on the climb to Garswood, the fence was very tricky. I took a massive gamble at Shap Wells with the sun but I thought a few clouds might allow me to get away with it. The late running obviously assisted. Will you be expecting an appearance fee for being in shot??
A Master class of Railway cinematography Austin, using the superb lighting and choosing such excellent locations you've captured Lizzie in all her glory working unassisted with 12 on, this is what she was designed for....Have a wonderful holiday in France...5* Bob
Thanks very much Bob, maybe Lizzie brings out the best in me with her Liverpool connections!! We'll enjoy France but can't help but think what I'm missing here, including the Scot from Lime Street....Grrrrrrr.

Great again Austin. The climb up Shap looked pretty brisk to me with 12 on.

I was more worried that having opened my big mouth I might have to pay you compensation. But if you're offering ....

Thanks Steve, yes a lovely sound indeed, it was a great day but a long one. Probably my last video for a while as we are off to France next weekend.
