  • what a stupid fuckin name...rivet joint?...lol its still a beautiful aircraft tho

  • @jordyboy321 I think they called it Rivet Joint because of the mission platforms that were combined into the air frame. Rivet this, Rivet that, I suppose you could say they joined them together. So they called it Rivet Joint. Not only that but they also gave them names very unrelated to the mission they carried out. But yes, they are great looking planes.

  • @MoparDodge1 The name RIVET JOINT has no particular meaning. It's just a name assigned to the "package" installed on the aorcraft.

  • @MARK8088 Oh ok, makes sense anyways.

  • @jordyboy321

Yeah it sounds something like a stoned frog?

  • Its not found at air shows ????

Its coming to the Royal International Air Tattoo 2011 & i'm really looking forward to seeing it. I have seen loads of KC-135 Stratotankers before. The RC-135 Rivot Joint will be a new one for me!!

  • @whitewingsrich Yep there was one at RIAT on the ground. Absolutely beautiful too.

One did a couple of fly overs at Culdrose airday a few years ago

  • @gravityxgrace The crew were so friendly, especially for intelligence staff!

  • The other jets mentioned in the film are probably more widely known and praised partly because of the way they look. The people the US has to worry about though, probably have their eyes trained on this aircraft just as much as they have trained on the other recon planes mentioned. Just say'n

  • what aircraft model was used for the original rivet joint role ? two engine Boeing, anyone ?

  • @stybarrow No, Rivet Joint has always been an RC-135.

  • @stuntmanmike37 OK, thanks. hey, presumably this platform will eventually migrate / evolve into an unmanned variant aircraft ?

  • @stybarrow That's what the whole Air Force is eventually heading towards. But for now, the Air Force doesn't have any immediate plans to retire the RC-135. Infact, the U.S. Air Force will begin supplying the RAF with these aircraft beginning next year.

  • What show is this off of. I tried to look it up on the history channel and google it but not luck.

  • Amazing... I signed a non disclosure agreement to never discuss anything about what this platforms capabilities are until I am like 90 years old... only 50 years to go...

Yeah... the guy spilling the beans is being pretty general on what the capabilities of the RC-135 are... but still... If it is top secret why spill anything at all?

  • @batfly why respond to "the guy spilling the beans at all"? Validation, much?

  • @onealphawtf

Why respond to a response about spilling the beans at all? Validation, much?

  • every one is soo exited abot the Rivet Joint... ever heard of the Cobra Ball ?

  • @canals22 Yeah supported Cobra ball in 89 and cobra eye

  • @bbwbb2 holly crap man, I was in Eielson 88-91 !

  • @canals22 no, i have not. what is it ? u ever hear of an IFF program based on jet engine harmonics ?

  • @canals22 RJ's where it's at ;)

  • Comment removed

  • steelking22, the program has been active for decades, through left and right presidents, that's a bit unfair. In fact the RC135s went into service when JFK was in office, a democrat.

Thanks for the great video. Love these planes.

  • that screen name leads to some amusing misunderstandings =p

  • my dad flew on the RC's. from the begining of the program until he retired. Backenders rule

  • backenders don't rule, they spill shit- RC crew chief

  • fuckin goats.

  • I fly one. We will be landing at LAX airport this friday at around 3am for refueling. Im not supposed to tell anyone but i figured you all have good intentions!

  • i sign my airborne crypto linguist contract with the usaf this week!!! i'm so excited to fly on one of these; i must have watched this video 15 times!

  • to badinfluence262: I wish it were me buddy! I envy you!

  • @badinfluence262 That was two years ago...surely you're done with your training (unless you were rolled in Monterey)

  • @Snovishvishbvat Nope. Didn't get rolled. Just got to offutt in October. I'm finishing up some more specific training and should be flying very soon.

  • cool video. i got to actually take my video camera on a dog and pony display at Lackland this past September. i uploaded it here. go take a look at my page and see the inside of an RJ now! (nothing's classified when they turn the computers off!) and NO parachutes!!! - reeko

  • There is nothing classifed here. What is classified is where these planes are at on any given day, the range/accuracy of the sensors, how much and the quality of the info this jet "pushes" during a mission. I was in this program for 24 years ... a very tough, but rewarding program. Basically, there is a RJ airborne 24 hours a day somewhere in this world.

Obammy, will probably try to retire them though, so some more kids with 550 SAT scores get to go to college for a year.

  • I would be in jail if I was to spill the beans like the History channel.

    Hmm must have been declassified?

  • So much for Op sec!

  • I used to work on RJ -15 and RJ- 16 back in 98- 2000 in Greenville,Tx That was a fun job there!!

  • Very cool C-135 variant....lots of antennas. Probably re-engined by now. Hot.
