@daetherbunny i raced a 6 speed 2010 ss with a cold air kit and magnaflow cat backs. i pulled away in first, we evened out in second, and then he passed me in third at about 125. im runnin a K&N fipk, bbk 80 mil tb, bbk ssi intake, harland sharp roller rockers, slp loudmouth, and a b&m shift module. the stock tune is whats holdin me back. im gettin it dyno tuned so well see what happens. id love to see 400 at the rear but i dunno if it will pull it. ill shoot some vids & get em up soon
@phatty1983 If a new 5th gen pulled you after 1st with those minor mods then you're not going to be pushing 400whp. No offense, just from experience. I mean they only hav 426 @ the crank OEM. You're probably looking at...330 about. 340 Maybe, no headers though so.. The 80mm TB and intake don't do much and can actually hurt you if the car doesn't 'need' that much air. You're basically a filter/cat back as well, just like the camaro. Though don't get me wrong, the tune will help alot.
@japawaiian He's also starting his top speed run from a roll at 67 MPH. Other variables come into play also. Was he on a level road or maybe on a downhill grade? Does he maybe have some more mods that aren't listed? Density altitude? Etc... Being that it's an '02 the car does have a slight HP advantage since '01 & '02 V8 F-Bodies came with a larger LS6 intake manifold from the factory. I'll have to do a run in my '01 and see how it compares to the acceleration of my old '98 in this video.
@daetherbunny also willing to bet mileage plays a part. this car has 111k or whatever. ls1s sure as hell hold that much, but they start losing a bit of compression. an 02 is likely to have lower mileage.
@pepene93 That's always a possibility but there's vids of LS1's on here with a lot more mileage than mine going a lot faster. :) My compression numbers from my '98 at 135k miles were the same as they are on my '01 with 80k miles. Also keep in mind that my car was geared a lot lower than most LS1's typically are. That probably has more to do with it than anything.
@Johnsonx16x These cars came stock with either 2.73, 3.23 or 3.42 gearing in the rear...any other gear ratio other than those are an aftermarket add on.
Running at that speed is an amazing feeling, iv hit 148-150 in my 1994 bird 140thousand miles so i backed out when she started hittin 5000 rpms, a few mods, nothing real major, but it does get real noisy but do you notice how well the fbodies hold the road? feels like your on a 150 mph train, But great job man thumbs up.

Starting from the bottom, what do you see? 1-2-D and then four spots from the bottom you see a D inside a squarish circle. Do you know what that means? OVERDRIVE. The lockup function on a torque converter is NOT overdrive. I don't know where you got your info but I'd research a little more if I was you. Heck, just read the owner's manual to start...
@daetherbunny the 4L60 is a 700R4 (TH350 w/ overdrive) with some improvments. the 4L60E is slightly more improved version with electronic controls. The 700R4 became the 4L60 in 93. the 4L60 became the 4L60E in 94 in the camaro.
@boondocksaint18 Actually, what CamaroAmx said is true. The '90-'93 Camaro uses the 4L60 and in '94 they started using the 4L60E. From what I understand, the '90-'93 4L60's are just renamed 700R4's. The name change for 700R4's to 4L60's occurred in 1990.
@daetherbunny 90-92 are just 31 spline 700r4. i have a 90 irocz they are 700r4.. 93 had the 4l60 so i was wrong. the 94 pickup up the 4l60e. I never had a 4th gen that old with a auto. my trans am is a t56 .

I have one of these cars. The window seals break completely open around 135MPH. It's very loud inside the car. Doesn't feel stable at those speeds. The brakes are mediocre. Don't try this in this car.
Then your car sounds like it needs some new parts because my 99 t/a definitely is solid up to those speeds. You can get new door seals, shocks, swaybars, poly bushings and brakes (Hawks HP + are good with rebuilt callipers and a good machine fluid flush) and then you'll be good. These parts are real cheap compared to buying a newer car!
@laveth GENERALLY speaking, I would say it depends on how much you want to concentrate on just pure drag racing or not. Auto's are MUCH easier to launch hard and are therefore quicker especially if you are going to be thinking under 10/11 sec 1/4mile. You can get a stall which makes them Killer with slicks off the line beating AWD cars!
I drive a 99' M6 because of the 'fun factor', and i have a tbss with auto anyway...
In Stock trim the 98 (ls1) will smoke the 97 regardless of the tranny...

@TheNak88 Correct...they're usually governed to around 160. Mine was 163 before I removed it with tuning software. If the car was sold without Z rated tires then the governor was set to around 115 from the factory.

Sick ride bro. I have some similar mods however I have quite a bit more done. Im not here to brag though but I saw you were looking into building that tranny. I as well have a built 4l60e and all i have to say is don't skimp on it. I used a maximum evil transmission with carbon fiber clutches and band with a heavily modified valve body and a corvette servo. It also has a shift kit in it. Id reccomend going all out on the tranny if you can because the difference is out of this world!

It's got Raybestos Max Pak 8 clutch set, ALTO bands, SPX Beast sunshell, 5 pinion planetaries, 13 vane pump, Sonnax boost valve, corvette servo, reworked valve body and various other little durability tweaks throughout (o-rings and bushings). Perhaps the most overlooked mod for these transmissions is the use of a GOOD tranny cooler. By GOOD I mean the largest bar and plate cooler you can fit on the car. Tube and fin coolers suck.

@pepene93 That's always a possibility but there's vids of LS1's on here with a lot more mileage than mine going a lot faster. :) My compression numbers from my '98 at 135k miles were the same as they are on my '01 with 80k miles. Also keep in mind that my car was geared a lot lower than most LS1's typically are. That probably has more to do with it than anything.

Running at that speed is an amazing feeling, iv hit 148-150 in my 1994 bird 140thousand miles so i backed out when she started hittin 5000 rpms, a few mods, nothing real major, but it does get real noisy but do you notice how well the fbodies hold the road? feels like your on a 150 mph train, But great job man thumbs up.

@ESVAb0y ok this is an automatic and is at 155 mph at 3rt and camaros are 4 shift... amazing but I think this kid have an ecu flsh or programmer because I program my computer on my camaro z28 2001 and I adjust my shift points and is true I just change my tires and go to the highway and is like this 155 at 3rt this car make 50 mph per shift is a good car..

@bbaber123 Actually, dsm2xtreme is correct. The 4L60E is basically a 3 speed with overdrive. There have been 3 speed transmissions used more recently than the 60's. Do a little more research before you spout off with the name calling.

@98Z28nut The ignorance of people never ceases to amaze me. If your Z28 is an automatic, go out to your car and look at your gear selector. Starting from the bottom, what do you see? 1-2-D and then four spots from the bottom you see a D inside a squarish circle. Do you know what that means? OVERDRIVE. The lockup function on a torque converter is NOT overdrive. I don't know where you got your info but I'd research a little more if I was you. Heck, just read the owner's manual to start...

@daetherbunny the 4L60 is a 700R4 (TH350 w/ overdrive) with some improvments. the 4L60E is slightly more improved version with electronic controls. The 700R4 became the 4L60 in 93. the 4L60 became the 4L60E in 94 in the camaro.

@boondocksaint18 Actually, what CamaroAmx said is true. The '90-'93 Camaro uses the 4L60 and in '94 they started using the 4L60E. From what I understand, the '90-'93 4L60's are just renamed 700R4's. The name change for 700R4's to 4L60's occurred in 1990.

ok since theres a couple of dumbass people on here ill set the record straight if he did have the car off the ground when he made this video which he dident the rpm and speedo would have maxed out a lot sooner he would have been to 153mph in like 3 seconds bc there would have been no resistance or pressure on the rear axle jack up ur car and floor it i bet it hits 153mph alot sooner then 45 seconds thats how long it took him BECAUSE he was on a road NOT lifted up

I have one of these cars. The window seals break completely open around 135MPH. It's very loud inside the car. Doesn't feel stable at those speeds. The brakes are mediocre. Don't try this in this car.

Then your car sounds like it needs some new parts because my 99 t/a definitely is solid up to those speeds. You can get new door seals, shocks, swaybars, poly bushings and brakes (Hawks HP + are good with rebuilt callipers and a good machine fluid flush) and then you'll be good. These parts are real cheap compared to buying a newer car!

@laveth GENERALLY speaking, I would say it depends on how much you want to concentrate on just pure drag racing or not. Auto's are MUCH easier to launch hard and are therefore quicker especially if you are going to be thinking under 10/11 sec 1/4mile. You can get a stall which makes them Killer with slicks off the line beating AWD cars!
I drive a 99' M6 because of the 'fun factor', and i have a tbss with auto anyway...
In Stock trim the 98 (ls1) will smoke the 97 regardless of the tranny...

I think these cars are actually governed at 160 or 161 even thoguh the speedometer only says 155 but i might be wrong. Ive had mine bouncin off the 155 though lol

Sick ride bro. I have some similar mods however I have quite a bit more done. Im not here to brag though but I saw you were looking into building that tranny. I as well have a built 4l60e and all i have to say is don't skimp on it. I used a maximum evil transmission with carbon fiber clutches and band with a heavily modified valve body and a corvette servo. It also has a shift kit in it. Id reccomend going all out on the tranny if you can because the difference is out of this world!

It's got Raybestos Max Pak 8 clutch set, ALTO bands, SPX Beast sunshell, 5 pinion planetaries, 13 vane pump, Sonnax boost valve, corvette servo, reworked valve body and various other little durability tweaks throughout (o-rings and bushings). Perhaps the most overlooked mod for these transmissions is the use of a GOOD tranny cooler. By GOOD I mean the largest bar and plate cooler you can fit on the car. Tube and fin coolers suck.
