Depends on what you want to play, what tone you like, there is no such thing as a perfect anything with the guitar for everyone, just perfect for you...see my favorite guitar is the Jaguar, but some people hate 'em..,all depends, but a higher action will give a higher pitch

I was at the Sonic Youth concert the day all their equipment was stolen. It was an all day show called "This Ain't No Picnic." They used Sleater Kinney's equipment and were amazing. Unlike any other SY show I've seen, they played a song from about every album. Sunday, Mote, Teenage Riot, Kool Thing, Shadow of a Doubt. This was the closest to ecstacy I've ever felt without being on ecstacy. Thurston was using a black Stratocaster with white pickguard. Nothing short of amazing.

If you're going that route, you can easily mod a Jagmaster which already has humbuckers to have a rythm circuit so it's the same as a jazzmaster.

This man, more than any other, has completely pushed the technical potentials of the Jazzmaster. Despite his somewhat lacksidaisical delivery, people must understand that J. has done more for this model of Fender than any other guitarist. Frankly, he has pushed his Fender further than most, period. Listen to the catalog and you will see. J. makes Jazzmasters do what others cant. Highly recommended
