Nice slingshot. You can make a Hawaiian sling the same way. Just attach your sling rubber directly to the tube and you don't need to use a commercial slingshot, just the tube with the drilled endcaps.

Why pull the dowel and not the cord?

I'd have thought it would work at least as well (and probably give a cleaner release and thus more accuracy) pinching the leather pocket of the band to hold the dowel inside it and give a better grip for the draw.

@thirteenfingers Pulling on the dowel also pulls the cord back. If you don't pull the dowel back, it will not go anywhere. The pocket will just hit the end of the dowel and do nothing.

@supaflyjack Surely that depends how you hold it. if you pinch the pouch from the sides you're holding dowel and the pouch together. Both will come back and you'll get a cleaner release. Dunno if that makes sense to you, but think about how people shoot rocks and BBs from slingshots, it's basically the same grip.
