  • apart from the robot things, this is the most beautiful guitar gibson's ever made!

  • Epiphone for people for people that just can't have the best.

  • Call it a geek-tar.

I don't necessarily object to this. Gibson's objective as a business is to sell to as many demographic niches as possible and this may appeal to those with a geek orientation. At $3500 (is that MSRP or street?), though, and with underemployment in this country as high as 23% in some places and likely to stay that way for a while, continuing to put out high end stuff is a risky strategy. Good thing they have Epiphone. But qualitatively, ESP eats Gibson's lunch.

  • Nutshell! WOO!

  • I got a Darkfire, but then the Dust Tiger came out T_T

  • @Darkfirelover Darkfire's way better lookin mate, you got the better one ;)

  • This is too much technology..

  • what a chaotic and noisy clip. cool guitar though...

  • ive got 3 words............. i want it!!!!!!

  • sometimes new technology can be far too much, and simplicity just enough. Les Pauls are excellent guitars without the bells and whistles

  • esa cosa es más computadora que guitarra jajajaja

  • The P90 has hum, yes the classical hum you learn to tame, your Robot has a Formula 1 brake pedal !

  • How much is it??

  • $ 3,337 U.S dollars.

  • this guitar is for people who are too lazy to tune their guitar

  • @zildjian1122 Ever used an electric tuner? Does that make you lazy?

  • @samdathi yea it does. i use a piano and my own 2 ears, along with the perfect fifths tuning method

  • YEAH! NUTSHELL!

  • nutshell-alice in chains mtv unplugged

  • A Gibson with a Parker fly piezo pickup technology?

  • What song is playing at the beginning??

  • If i was the dude stting down id be like GTFO the guitar bitch! Ima trying to play Mo'Fo -.- rofl

  • it's only my personal opinion... it wont change the fabric of time and space.

  • not as ugly as your goddamn face...

  • I would go as far as to say that they are equally ugly

  • I saw it in real life a few months ago at Guitar Center. it is the most beautiful guitar I've ever laid my eyes on.

  • If it is my opinion that it is an ugly guitar, then naturally, my opinion would be that you have very poor taste.

    =p

  • @Maloclips, what electric guitar do you own?

  • Les Paul Epiphone Standard, in matt mahogany finish with off white trims and so on...

I can think of a lot of guitars i like more but its was cheap. =]

  • Epiphones are cheap imitations. no wonder you're bitching about an expensive real les paul. Keep saving the pennies, mate, and you might be able to afford a real guitar one day.

  • I didn't mean to upset you.

  • Well you did.

  • @samdathi Epiphone is Gibson's sisterbrand, just look at gibson's official site. They're not imitations.

  • @samdathi Sorry to tell you this, mate, but Epiphone is made by Gibson.

  • @superstriker00 : No shit Sherlock. That's why I referred to them as 'cheap imitations'.

  • @samdathi How are the imitations if they're by the same company?

  • @superstriker00 : Look, mate, stop laying semantics with me. Let me put it in less controversial terms then: Epiphones are budget replicas for people who are too broke to afford a real man's guitar, a Gibson.

  • @samdathi - Having a more expensive "real mans guitar" doesn't mean shit. If you can play guitar well then you can make any guitar sing. Don't be such a snob, there are many better guitars than les pauls even though I love em to bits and many are cheaper. It doesnt matter how expensive your guitar is, it matters what you do with it.

  • i beileve it is a really ugly guitar also right there with you budy who has grey pickups with a black pickguard looks absolutly terrible the only part that looks good is the back of the headstock

  • Finally! A reply some someone who doesn't want to kill me! =D

The only use I see for that guitar, is in a recording studio. It's a great idea but the end result is ugliness and too many fiddly bits.

Gibson have been flogging this dead house of an idea for years... and I fear they will for many years to come.

Although I do like the intonation functionality.

  • ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha he said "pie-zo" LOL

  • I dont know about robots and the darkfire. They look cool and sound great but i sure hope they don't stop makind the amazing original les pauls for these. It doesnt feel as real unless you tune it yourself and theres no charging of batteries or anything like that. The good ol les pauls are the best to me hands down.

  • yeah nothing beats originals even though this is a bad ass guitar

  • yeah, you're the same kind of 'old skool' guitarist that bitched about solid body guitars coming out half a century ago.

If advances in technology frighten you so much (particulary their cost), why don't you go back to your hut and play your madolin?

  • @samdathi The technology or cost doesnt frighten me at all. Particularly when an old les paul can cost ten times what a robot or the darkfire does. They are more precious and more valued and they just feel more real. Wheres the fun in having a guitar that does everything for you except play itself. Im all for the tech being created and i think its amazing stuff that gibson have done but i just know that im never gonna want a darkfire over a classic les paul.

  • @Olie23231 The Darkfire doesn't do everything except play itself. That is a gross mischaracterisation and exaggeration. You say you're all for tech being created but the underlying tone of some of your comments clearly suggest the contrary.

I'm growing a bit tired of so called 'true' guitarists bitching about any advances in our instrument. As I say, the same kind of people bitched about the first solid body guitars like Strats and Les Pauls - they believed that guitars had to be hollow.

  • @samdathi I never bitched about anything XD i stated my opinion about these guitars and some must feel the same cause i got thumbs up for my comment. The technology is truly brilliant but i just dont want it to take over so you can only buy robots/darkfires etc. I want to still be able to go to buy a gibson in a couple of years and have a good range of guitars including darkfires and new guitars to old classic les pauls.

  • @Olie23231, Ok fine but I think it's slightly irrational to fear that robot guitars will take over. This is not Terminator. I'm sure there will always be a market for those who want to tune their guitar themselves.

  • @Olie23231 I own a 2008 1st run robot SG and it feels just fine to me. It doesn't limit the use of my les paul at all just another tool in the box.

  • @Olie23231 The battery charging, that's the part I don't like

  • @Olie23231 i no what you mean because to me, there is nothing more psecial them pciking up a guitar and just tuning it and playing it all day long, its my pashion. love the originalg gibsons and im on board with you man

  • i'd go along with the nut selling ...only thing is... i already own a DF haha

  • The self tuning thing is a great idea, but I would've put the tuning motors under the back stop in the body where they would be less vulnerable. It may be cool to watch the tuning pegs turn, but you could use a more robust/ reliable mechanism inside the body of the guitar. And if it kept the guitar in tune as you played, that would be a real plus, boy.

Never understood the whole 'modeling' thing, why not just play a Strat? A lot of this stuff just seems gimmicky to sell to fans.

  • i thought i was trippin' out when he switched to DADGAD tuning...

    i was like WTF?!?!?!?

    thats awesome. i want one

  • I thought it's h-90

  • That knob is going to confuse so many people

  • and someone probably will brake one(or someone already has).

  • haha, love the "pie zone" pickup ;) seriously though, all this futuristic stuff, is it really necessary? i mean who is so lazy they can't be bothered to manually change their tuning? or pick up a different guitar?

  • "piezo"

  • "sarcasm" ;) jeepers.

  • me xD

  • I think its actually an H-90. I'm not sure, but I think it is

  • fuck the other brands there! this guitar is revolutionary!

  • Fuck the other brands there! Gibson guitars are the best!

  • whats the song at the begining

  • "Nutshell" by Alice in Chains off of the Jar of Flies album...

  • You all are wrong, there is clearly a tiny wizard that lives inside of the guitar. He is a master of different guitar tunings.

  • :D hahaha

  • so does this combine the robot tuning with the digital output featured model from last year? Does the breakout box digitally give you the six separate strings?

  • איזה מגניבה היא תגיד כמה היא עולה בארהב???

אני חייב לדעת כי אני מחפש בכל מקום ולא מוצא

  • there so good for the price they are i need one NOW

  • please pleASE tell me where i can get one

  • best buy.

  • Owned.

  • a guitarra mais bonita q eu ja vi

  • i think a guitar that tunes itself isnt a guitar. its just part of playin, tuning up changing strings etc.

  • I want one

  • dude that guitar is super amazing!

the guy that plays it, is(just like me) from israel^^

  • what's the title of the song before the video starts?

  • Nutshell by Alice in Chains

  • heard these break strings like no other

  • How?

  • my friend had said they got them in at a music store and apperently they're not that great, i think the fender version makes more sense. You leave the guitar tuned to standard but the electronics magicly makes the sound another tuning, non eof this robotic tuning stuff.

  • i completely disagree ...

if you got used to solid state amps and so on, you'll be satisfied with modeling shit.

if you want a real, full, genious guitar sound, you HAVE to change the tuning and HAVE to use an EQ instead of the fender vg mode knob crap.

  • lol fo sho

my guitar was the best $200 a guitarist can spend, yes my friends $200

  • Pretty cool...well done gibson

  • i cannot understand a word, they are saying because of the song playing in the background!

  • great looking guitar! Im amazed at the improvement of the auto tuning!

  • nice voice crack at 2.01

  • make a epiphone version

  • With this guitar even idot could play, it does almost evrything for you.

  • Not true. You still have to play it.

  • $3500? This is more like a collectors' stuff. You can't trash it.

  • You guys who are saying how big a waste this is obviously have never had to switch tunings before. Retards.

  • Seriously, it takes me 5 minutes, it takes this guitar under a second lol

  • the only tunings i switch between is standard and drop d. but yea, this would be very useful

  • if it ain't broke.....

  • sounds and looks bad ass. but it has the same body style as the les paul. so it looks to me its just a tricked out pes paul.

  • that's pretty much what it seems like

  • this is the perfect guitar it's setup by a goddamn computer it has every tone you can think of.

there are hollow parts cut out inside which were measured by computers it to make it have better tone and be lighter.

this is a new age for guitars

  • its not an inovation by Gibson...Line 6 use that long time ago in line 6 guitars

  • Never buy a Gibson at all! The quality is sooo bad. Buy a Heritage! Ive been playing for 15 years and never came across a a really good Gibson. The best sounding one was a 68 Les Paul Custom and guess what, it was crafted only so so. Gibson is only about making money, they don't care about the guitars. They have the name that sells itself no matter what!

  • 10-4 on the HERITAGE. They are hand built by former Gibson people from Kalamazoo who refused to move to Nashville to mass market overpriced junk.

  • Oh Joy! Another $3500 guitar that will show up poorly set up. Never buy a new Gibson, buy used.

  • You're a dumbass. If you read further into the guitar you would also see it has an electronic intonation feature that tells you if it is set up properly.

  • Soul of GUITAR now died.

  • How cool would it be to buy a Gibson Les Paul for $700 that played great and didn't have Made in China stamped on it? Gibson, if you're reading this I want to tell you that I refuse to buy a new Gibson guitar until you guys pull your heads out of your asses and make a quality guitar that costs under $1000. Now go oil your robots and think about what I just said.

  • Dear Gibson,

Here's a thought, how about making a quality guitar for an affordable price that's made in America by Americans? Personally I don't want a guitar that emulates other guitars, tunes itself and costs $3500 friggin' dollars. Do you or do you not know that one of the first things guys do when they buy your new guitars is rip out the electronics and replace the caps and pots?

  • Right on man. I feel the same way. If they stopped wasting all of this money on the stupid fucking robot guitars, they could actually make a decent fucking regular Les Paul (the new standard and traditionals suck).

  • I hate all this emulated sound crap its taking away all the fun of buying the equipment to find your sound. I could not be happier with my Marshall and Gibson and I certainly never want my Gibson to sound like a telecaster who the hell would?

  • same here man

    humbuckers all the way

  • Ma come caxxo fai a suonarla dal vivo?Tra un set e l'altro di suoni è finita la canzone!!!

  • Gibson 'Self' guitar NAMM 2012...plays all by itself.

  • I wouldn't be surprised. How lazy can people get? Tune your guitar yourself dammit!

Good thing the world is ending in 2012 anyways.

  • elaborate?

  • The Mayan calendar ends in 2012, and people are saying the world is going to end...

    Haha

  • yeah unless we collect the 13 crystal skulls and put them all in the same place before 2012..............................

  • haha

  • unbelievable nuff said

  • awesome guitar

  • i would sell my left nut for that guitar

  • haha

  • what the hell is your problam

  • i don't have a problem. Other than your spelling of promlem
