Celesia is thousands of years old, she enjoys clean fun, which you all call trolling.

She sent her sister to the moon in order to protect her land and subjects, after trying to reason with Luna and trying to avoid the conflict all-together. Not for no reason.

To your question about Twilight. Just because you've read about something doesn't mean you know it when you see it. Philomena looked much like a featherless chicken crossed with a buzzard when she was "dieing" that I don't see how one could make a correlation. As for Philomena being Celestisa's pet, best I can figure is that she's actually a new pet that Celestia only got after Twilight left Canterlot, Philomena isn't always with Celestia, or Twilight hasn't actually been in the castle proper.

To be fair the Phoenix could have been a fairly new pet and in its current state would have looked nothing like a phoenix ^_^ so Twilight can be excused from knowing what it was (plus she was panicking).
