  • can you ajust ISO when you're gonna shoot ??

  • it is very hard to get popular on youtube especially for new channels.

although everyone is writing 'check out my channel', i think you should do that (i do that aswell) because the videos might be really good although no one is watching them.

so: check out my channel about photography and comedy!

    Thank you!

  • Low light bokeh machine.

  • i have a d5100 and i love how this video looks... could you please tell me exactly how to ask for this lens at the shop?? (i mean the exact model if it's possible, thanks!)

  • do you use autofocus ?

  • @Segatvideoo Not possible with this lens on the D5100. Only AF-S lenses auto focus.

  • Comment removed

  • dude...I have yet to see clearer videos at night--you have my attention!!!

  • what's the title of the song did you used?

  • what's the title of the song?

  • Im sorry im a noobie in DSLR and im just getting started, but i will be videoing just as much as photo taking and i was wondering which camera you would suggest. The Canon d600 or the nikon d5100? Also, just to confirm, you can manual focus while recording a video with the d5100 right?

  • How do you avoid noise and grain to appear?, i've recorded in low light too with my D5100, but the image is not even close to be as good as this video o.o

  • @HBMHD LOL forget my stupid comment, i just made annotations visible and there was my answer xD.

  • @HBMHD

buy urself a 50mm f1.4 lens. read the caption theyre using 50mm f1.8 but 50mm f1.4 is better. both of them are good in low light because of the wide aperture. i think ur using ur kit lens, ur kit lens has a widest aperture of f3.5. smaller F number means bigger aperture. bigger aperture gives you better low light capabilities and allows your camera to use lower iso. lower iso gives you lower noise and grains.

  • Nice video. Thanks for the sample clip. I'm curious what video codec (and container format) this was used to upload to youtube? It's very sharp and clean. Thanks.

  • 0:28 niko bellic from gta 4 o.0

  • Nikon is best and last choose

  • sick focus man!!!!

  • The music makes everything so depressive.

  • what lens are you using? at that video

  • Good evening friend, 3 days ago I bought the Nikon D5100 experience in photography and guiding the characteristics q has not yet set porq video recorded at night and directly connect the HDMI cable tv and much land is the video does not look good ... q I would like to help me if it is configuration problem

  • what lens

  • dude! this video is like..... at f/1.4 or something! i can't believe it's 1.8! this is FAKE!!

  • @Xzefreeman I don't like if somebody tries to fool us and Mr. Marcel Fenchel and Mr. Moritz Janisch clearly do!

  • what lens?

  • Very nice vid!!! I have the D5100 too and iam very happy!

  • This video is not fake, I've tried my D5100 with "35mm 1.8 DX" iso@1600 (used AE-Lock) and it works as great as this video shows..... and if you noticed, the street itself that is shown in the video is bright, like the place where i'm right now.... it really makes a lot of difference when you're in a dim street. Hope this helps to everyone commenting about this problem ^_^

  • @Xzefreeman just by AE-Lock you can't tell at which ISO you record. ISO value on display doesn't match recording value. set to 100, got to LV in dark area = noise on display. ae-l will just lock the cameras auto-settings.

  • Those guys keep deleting my comments because they know the video is fake. Also they won't comment because they know. FJ promotes their name with a faked video just to get views and remove everybody who notices. It's really sad.

  • @fsx550

    Just go to Aperture Priority

    Then go to LiveView

    Use Exposure Compensation

    Then AE Lock

  • @dukie827 And then what? You have successfully locked auto-exposure. How can you tell at which iso you are when using the EV adjustment? The camera will show the wrong value. Close, but no cigar ;)

  • @fsx550 i didnt say use google did i? I never tried? Not owning a Dslr doesnt mean i havnt tried one.

Im just saying that most people here say its fake , which i dont like coz d5100 is my fave camera to use.

oh and by searching i meant was youtube, i didnt hear it from somebody, i saw it from a video, and tried it myself the minute i finished the video. So dont act like a goody 2 shoe and flame me when im just helping some viewers of this vid and will lessen the hate towards the camera.

  • @IfYouSeeKAE21 i see you like the d5100, which is good. i just love this camera.

thing is: you didn't provide any useful information so far except some vague opinions

  • You guys can lock the iso. Sheesh, even i who dont have a dslr knows that d5100 can lock its iso, you cant change it when recording though. try searching d5100 iso lock. Hope this helps

  • @IfYouSeeKAE21 It's a hack that will work only in certain circumstances. I explained in the comments how to do it. You have to do it before entering Live-View and you are not able to change it while recording. It's very complicated to do and you need a bright lightsource for this trick, which outside you often don't have.

You don't have a d5100 or even a DSLR so please stop telling me to use google for something you obviously never tried but just heard somewhere from somebody. Thanks

  • Looks like what D3S can do...

  • how do you get video like that out of the D5100? I have the same camera with almost the same lens (nikkor 35mm f1.8) and my video doesn't look nearly as good. What settings do you use??

  • @FenchelJanisch is that yellow tint is due to street lights or edited,.? or its the natural color that the camera shoots at night

  • why is there no image noise at all in your video? when i turn my ISO up there is way too much of it. whats the trick?

  • boooookehhhhhhhhh mamfmamfmamf

  • boooookehhhhhhhhh nomnomnom

  • @fsx550 nah, I've seen some amazing footage on it. Dude, probably has some sick lenses

  • I'm very glad i found a fix at this Exposure settings problems... /watch?v=o9lx7Hj6dzY

  • OK, I don't do video. I'm a still photographer. That being said, this video you did is wonderful. The photography and interplay of the lights are stunning; as is the music you chose to compliment it.

So, my opening comment here leaves me wondering... maybe I WILL do video with my D5100 and prime lens.

Anyway, yours is very, very nice. I applaud you and your work.

    Ron

  • hello, I wonder how long this camera shoots in full HD? hug

  • Focusing Makes Everything Beautiful :)

  • el iso no afecta a la hora de la grabacion... o si?

  • nice!

  • how do u enable 30 fps on the d5100 i can't find that option on my settings.

  • @shav4life go to menu then setup menu and change it from pal to ntsc. ur movie mode should automatically switch to 30fps

  • @laguerta14 thanks

  • 3 canon users

  • how do u get this to be noise free? and what setting did u shootthis video under, i got noise even under light on mine

  • @814icovis read the description ;) 50mm/1.8 lens, 1/50s, ISO 1600 :)

  • when your camera autofocuses, how do you not hear the noise the lens makes when it focuses in the video? my d5100 makes an irritating noise when the lens autofocuses

  • @RGIV05 you can use an external mic. but autofocus isn't recommended for good movies with it^^

  • @RGIV05

    1) Use manual focus

    OR

    2) Record audio separately. Notice this video just has music, no actual sounds.

  • does the camera let you set ISO for video recording?

  • Lovely video! Really good! I'm in love with this camera... think i'll by myself one! Do you have any slow motion videos with it?

  • what lens did you use for the 1st pic??

    great vid btw

  • amaing vidie quality with iso 1600 i dont see any nois

  • nice :)

  • bokkkehaaaaaaa

  • if only the uploader would be kind enough to give some tips on how they were able to get these great shots. I tried setting ISO to 1600 and shutter speed to 1/50 and then hitting AL-E lock button before going to live view but the clips are not as sharp and clean as this video. Was able to lock the exposure but the clips has noticeable noise(grains)..maybe I missed some adjustments,or maybe this video was not captured with the d5100,hope i'm wrong.

  • @robet03 yo probably used your kit lens( 18-55mm). in the video, they have used a 50mm-1.8 prime lens. hope this helps :)

  • @coolave007 yeah your correct,i tried shooting with my kit lens at first and the clips were really noisy. I just got a 35mm f1.8 recently and the results were amazing. Much cleaner since it has faster aperture. But there are still noticeable noise when shot on near dark areas. But on this video, you cant see a speck of noise which I would really love to find out on how to get these results. Maybe you could toss in some tips :)...thanks for the reply though..

  • @robet03 probably it has to do with the glass used in the lens. 35mm 1.8 is meant for cropped sensors, but the 50mm prime is a full frame lens. FX lenses are inherently better.

  • Comment removed

  • Probably. Im not sure lens format has something to do with the image quality. Another thing about this video, there is no way to set the shutter speed and ISO manually on video mode. Enlighten me uploader :D

  • So i just did a quick test. Set the camera to M, Shutter 1/50, Aperture F3.5, ISO 100, WB fixed, ADL off, AE lock on, switch to live-view. Now what i see in my room under bad lightning conditions is a very noisy picture and there's no way that is 100 iso. More like 800 - 1200. The camera doesn't show the right value. I've read that somewhere before. Whatever i'm doing wrong or what is wrong with the camera: This thing badly needs a firmware update. Yeah, what they were thinking!???

  • @thinkwebb yes your basically right about the exposure meter but you still can adjust the sensor/chip-exposure without affecting ISO. What else is the EV-button for?

  • @fsx550 I just checked my manual to make sure, page 49. You can not use EV in M mode, because it changes aperture & shutter speed to adjust the exposure. In M mode you control the aperture & shutter speed while the EV is 0. These 2 combinations with the ISO setting will give you the exposure. I agree you can affect exposure by changing any one of those 3 settings. There is another way to lock it in M mode by sort of tricking the camera, it's on creative cow forums.WB must be set, ADL set to off.

  • @thinkwebb

I just tested the above statement in M mode. It will let you adjust the EV in the settings while in M mode but when you take a photo there is no change to the exposure, it does not change the aperture/shutter settings while in M mode even though it allows you to change the EV values. What were the engineers at Nikon drinking when they designed this camera? FIRMWARE PLEASE

  • @thinkwebb exactly, i noticed a different behaviour recently while working with fixed WB. Recordings showed less noise so i was assuming the camera chose a lower ISO/exposure. Didn't know about that WB+ADL off trick. Will try ASAP.

  • Comment removed

  • I never thougth i would say this on YouTube but this video must be "fake". There's no way you can manually set ISO on the D5100 when recording video. You can lock exposure, set desired white balance before entering live-view, adjust EV while recording with the EV-Button and the dial on the back of the cam. There's no way to manually set ISO. You can set ISO to a fixed value but as soon as you start recording your settings will be overwritten and the camera decides itself which ISO it wants.

  • @fsx550 @fsx550 The D5100 does not have the manual exposure settings for video that the D7000 has, correct. However on the Nikon page link below there are instructions on how to lock the exposure for a single shoot. I have done this, ISO 1600, shutter 1/50, aperture 5.6. Same exposure regardless of the light environment for a single video shoot. I tested the shutter speed against moving subjects, water, etc. See bottom of page.

Can't post link, go to Nikon D-Movie Tips page, instructions there.

  • @thinkwebb Oh yeah you mean the AE-L/AE-F lock. You can set the button to lock the exposure. However that has nothing to do with your ISO settings. You can manually set ISO to maybe 400 but the camera won't recognize your settings while recording. You might think so because it reads "1600" but check your footage, it doesn't matter. Under certain circumstances you can see the camera adjusting on it's own. No way to manually set it to a fixed value.

  • @fsx550 Did you go to the page and follow the directions exactly? I did what your doing with the camera. It's a circle of madness. I know what you're saying and it's true unless you follow the instructions exactly, it will lock the exposure regardless of light you point the camera at. I have tested the shutter speed against moving objects, it stays the same. I've taken photos with the same settings locked and it is the same image as on the Live view. I will upload a video, give me a day.

  • @thinkwebb It seems like you have no clue what you're talking about. You know the difference between ISO and exposure? Yes i went to that link and it tells exact the same as i told you. You can do AE-L/AE-F lock and everything, it will lock exposure, yes. Still: the camera will not keep your ISO settings while recording, even if you set everything manually before entering live view.

  • @fsx550 OK, that's great news your camera is working properly. If your camera's ISO is changing during video with the AE lock hold button pressed, it is broken. If it will lock exposure during video you're set because you cannot lock exposure without locking the ISO value as the ISO is part of the exposure formula, it is the camera chip's sensitivity to light setting. The other 2 are aperture & shutter speed, I won't insult you by defining those because I'm only trying to help;)

  • @thinkwebb "part of the exposure formula" ... should i laugh at that? Then how comes you can manually control exposure and ISO separately while not recording? Oh okay, i see, my camera must be wrong here, too ;D Another thing: If your camera auto-adjusts and you press AE-lock, then how do you tell at which ISO you locked? See? You can't. Lots of people report the camera doesn't show the proper ISO on the display. Theres a value, yes, but it won't change while recording.

  • @thinkwebb btw. as i said you can change exposure while recording with the EV button and the dial at the back of the cam. Camera will still shift ISO. A video at fixed 100 ISO is just not possible. I tried 100o times, others are reporting the same behaviour. Sorry for sounding so mad. I'm not trying to insult you here. I'm just a bit angry that it doesn't work ;)

  • @fsx550 I was angry too and still am as I think this camera should have the manual control of the D7000 because it was marketed as being more video-friendly and a competitor to t3i. It could've been in the same league with ME settings but it's not. The ISO is part of the exposure by definition and it applies to this camera as well. Without entering live view in M mode, 1/50, F-5, aim your cam somewhere with the ISO @ 100, look @ the exposure meter, now change to ISO 800 & look @ the meter.

  • @thinkwebb somebody wrote it here before: make a test, point your cam against something bright. Now set your exposure and ISO and lock it. Point your cam against something dark. Your video should be underexposed. It indeed is but on the other hand the camera tries to compensate with higher ISO. Absolutely no way to stop it doing that. Closely inspect you're footage and watch out for noise in dark areas. Oh and btw, we're talking about video mode here. I can take stills with fixed ISO, too ;)

  • hi... i just bought nikon dslr 5100, and start learn to use it.

    Nice video !

  • can you do manual on this thing??

  • @imagronuragro no you can't, that's the biggest draw back i can say on this DSLR,

  • Excellent! Thanks for posting.

    Video response:

Canon EOS 60D ( Night Video Test) City Lights 1080p 24 fps

  • my next camera,. nice.

  • This video convinced me to buy it : )

  • @TheTraceurBoy i got it today !, does it have iso settings during video ?

  • @stavyros hey hows the picture quality in nikon d5100?? is it professional..and how much does it cost?

  • @sunny224t its got the same quality as a d7000 and it actually does exposure a bit better than the d7k ,i wouldn't say its professional because of a few reasons ,but quality wise great . i would highly recommend it i got it for 550 pounds at the airport (duty free ) one last word of advice get the cam body only , the lens in the box has very loud autofocus ,also the autofocus is much better and more accurate if you get a better lens ,all in all a magnificent video dslr , i highly recommend it

  • @stavyros oh okay... so hows the battery life? how long does it last after you charge the battery?

  • @sunny224t oh i found it ,you cant control aperture and exposure at the same time in video

  • very nice shots

  • If I may ask, what music is being used in the background? It's quite nice...

Great shots though -- thanks for sharing!

  • great video! does anyone know what music is playing here?

  • I assume you used a tripod, but did you steady the footage afterwards as well? Did you use some extra aperature ring to control manual focus on those DOF shots?

  • I couldn't seem to find the option with 30fps today. All settings only with 24fps I think it was. Any help?

  • very nice..

  • THIS VIDEO WAS SHOT WITH >>> Lens: Nikkor 50mm F/1.8

It's amazing how many of you retards can't read the description.

  • can you do manual focusing on video?! thank you?!

  • @MrKorean30 Yes, you can.

  • Is this with the kit lens?

  • amazing shot

  • its so amazing video, its so clear ,this is in germany right?! its so amazing place really.

  • Out of curiosity, what lens did you used?

  • what kind of lense you're using?

  • Excellent results!

  • please explain how you changed focus during the video recording?

  • @schwartznimrod I have the same lens and it doesn't have an autofocus motor.. So I'm pretty sure all that was done to change the focus in the video was by manually focusing the lens.

  • Astounding!

  • I've watching some videos saying the D7000 is better, but i've seen both camera's definition and i can say that the quality is barely better on a D7000, D5100 has a lot more features to consider unless Nikon launches a D7100 soon lol.

  • Full Frame ????

  • watch my test shot vimeo . com/23141785

  • This video is a fraud. The D5100 has no manual controls during video recording mode. Two different videos on youtube are saying this. Search youtube for "D5100 Video Mode - No Shutter Speed or ISO Control" or "Nikon D5100 RED FLAG!!! - Why I Can't Recommend the D5100 for Video" I believe this guy has a HDSLR but claims it to be other cameras. Does he really have a Pentax K-5, Nikon D5100, Canon 7D, 60D, 600D, etc.... I'm beginning to think no.

  • Kit Lens?This is great

  • kit lense?This is great!

  • hello

That means we can change the ISO while we film ?'

maybe shoting at 3000 ISO could be interresting,,,,,

  • great low light quality.not less than d7000 in quality aspect

  • what lens are you using?

  • Sorry, on the car motion scenes, I'm seeing exactly the same choppiness in YouTube. Same question, is this YouTube doing the choppiness of an artifact of the camers?

  • @SteveSoundManEvans I wanna know this too because I didnt notice it in any of the Canon videos, like the 550d

  • Thanks for the video. What lens did you use for these shots?

  • That's great night shot and not choppy at all like the daytime clip.

  • No way that's shot with 1600 ISO. That's crazy good definition!

  • @Geoffboyardee - These newer Nikon models have really good low light images. They handle high ISO very very well. I'm planning to buy either the 5100 or 7000 very soon. Can't wait.

  • @Geoffboyardee You are right.... the D5100 has no manual controls in video mode so there is no way he can set it to ISO 1600 at a 1/50th. This video is a fraud. Search youtube for "D5100 Video Mode - No Shutter Speed or ISO Control" or "Nikon D5100 RED FLAG!!! - Why I Can't Recommend the D5100 for Video"

  • @Five50Onyx In actual fact you can set the ISO 1600 at a 1/50th. Video is not fraud. I have just bought one myself, you can't change the settings during video, you set the appropriate settings before you hit record. You can also record with the built in effects such as colour picker, works a treat, again you set this before you hit the record button. You can change focus simply by the manual focus on the lens, simple. Do some more research before slating other videos and cameras.

  • @nspflightcases Nice try but you are wrong. You may think you are setting the ISO and shutter speed but you are not. Give this a try: take your D5100 outside on a sunny day and set it to ISO 6400 1/30th at f/ 3.5. If you video is not overexposed then the camera changed your shutter speed and or ISO to get a correct exposure. We all know you can manually control focus and set the aperture, but you can not set the ISO or Shutter speed. I would love for you to be right but sadly you are wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • @Geoffboyardee with t2i or this new nikon 5100 is not surprise clear image with high iso.

this cameras starts to noise on 1600. especially making video, thats much less resolution than a picture.

but the quality is completely normal on video, for 1600 iso on new model cameras.

  • how about hot pixels like with the d7000?

  • Nice demo. Love the low light bokeh there.

  • Don't arguing about NIKON or CANON, I have D7000 7D 5D 600D they all are awesome camera.

  • cool, do you know anything about nikon video workflow in final cut express 4 vs canon's?

  • Beautiful images!!

  • It's okay, I'm happy with my Canon EOS REBEL T2i.

  • beautiful.
