The pure coloratura soprano sounds like Ingeborg Hallstein, Lily Pons, ofc there are also others.

It sometimes makes Tarja sound like she's out of tune (even though she isn't). That's why I prefer Lori. She controls her vibrato much better for my taste and sings with a lot emotions.
Tarja controls her vibrato only when singing classical, in rock she does not even think about it (said that herself in a recent interview).
This is a huge difference right here, one that most don't get: in rock Tarja sings rock woth classical technique. Lori (attempts to) sings opera coloratura in metal.. excuse me if I want to puke, the result sounds like shit.
So, you "feel" that Lory transmits more emotion because she CONTROLS more?
On the other hand you were wrong all along. If you compare strictly the opera/classical voice, Tarja is better technically and has supreme control. Check out for eg her performing Carmen, too see how she combines slow/fast and even choked vibrato.
Lastly, I cannot even consider Lori of entering a "contest" with Tarja, because Tarja was a powerhorse soloist all her life.
Lori just sings generic/easy/short coloratura here and there in Therion and AD.

That 'fading' is called 'singing piano' or pianissimo maybe., depending what you heard.
Tarja's vibrato is perfectly controlled, your problem is that you wish her to sound like the fast and uniform operatic vibrato.
She had a period when she sang with that kind of vibrato and sounded "operatic" she just evolved.

"A vibrato in this style of music" - what style of music? Tarja is singing at least 3 totally different styles.
"has almost always been regular" - IF you were refering to opera, it has been - because it helps projection .. having no microphone.
Tarja uses all kinds of vibrato, including this traditional one - in "Oceanborn" era, when she was around 19-20 she already mastered it.

I think the very first bit (without vocals) is a part of Ancient Verses, then it's Schwarzalbenheim, Ancient Verses (thx qliphaNaamah), Ginnungagap, The Bluish Shade, ?, Der Mitternachtsloewe, The Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah, ?, Sun of the Sun, D'Oreste, Son of the Staves of Time, Artemis, Muspelheim, Lemuria, ? (might be The Loon), An Arrow from the Sun.

mmm actually i like aloot of sopranos, therion has very good ones but my fav. is Simone Simons, the thing that i dont like of Epica that Simone doesnt (note: i love Epica 100%) express her true vocals, she does very well but i know she can hit higher and better vocals. Imgine her singing mmm Schwazalbenheim from Therion ha i think that was a bad example, but do yall get my point?

Lori Lewis is wonderful. :D I think she is by far the most technically sound female singer in metal.
