  • This Driver´s was Real Hero´s behind the Wheel ...

no Seatbelt,no Safer barrier.. a lot of respect

  • In my point of view, Senna was the most FAST, than any other... i always think in his 65 pole positions, its so amazing, and schumacher took almost ten years to get over it! also was a good person, very religious and liked to spend time with his family.. RIP Senna!

  • @TheLfs1991 What does that have to do with Clark driving at Oulton Park? I like bubblegum, but honestly, who cares - this video is about Jim Clark and the Lotus.

  • There are no trees on the the track anymore!

  • Are those trees so close to the race track ?

  • @elsspoel

yes, oulton park has always been like this, still is. That is why it was never chosen to host an f1 race.

  • Proffessionalism kills F1 and sport in general.

The Coventry Climax, which is the engine in the car Clark is driving was actually from a water pump that chapman and co decided had a chance of being a race engine.

With a few quid in those days you could literally find yourself on the grid.

  • @gnark1ll1us I don't think it was just Chapman that selected the Coventry-Climax engine. All British F1 cars (except BRM) used the engine in 1962. There was a scramble to find a suitable engine during 1961 (the first year of the 1.5 L formula) as the FIA had changed the engine limit from 2.5 L without much warning - some say at the behest of Ferrari who had a very suitable 1.5 L engine while the Brits. did not) and the water pump engine was selected as being suitable for conversion.

  • A PROPER race car driver. Those cars back then were beasts that needed to be tamed and man-handled. Very little down force and NO electronic driver aids unlike F1 cars of today.

I'd love to see Hamilton try and push a lotus 49 beyond it's limits round Oulton

  • @Straightsix76 true that :) Jim Clark was very fast and made it seem so easy and controlled :)

  • all nowadays f1 driver are all kids...

  • 0:46 - oh god yes!!!

  • Great onboard stuff! That's a scary looking track compared to how it is now!

  • @nastyevilninja yes, apparently the building to the right of the track at the top of Clay Hill, that just comes into view at 1:22, went right up to the track and had a collection of marks on it - where it had been hit by passing cars! And what about all those trees along Avenue (so that's where the name comes from)

  • You can see how smooth he drives his car. No hard movements with the steering wheel but a very precise line throug the corners.

  • thanx for that fastination records!

  • Jim Clark the best

  • I'm pretty sure that's a Lotus 25, not a 33.

  • Jimmy was the most naturally talented driver. He could drive ANYTHING.

  • Brilliant! In those days you had to stir your own gears and set your own car up.Clark was a true Great.

  • Yeah Clark never liked his setup being changed. He used to ask Colin (Chapman) to leave the car as it is and he will adapt his driving style to it

  • You can't compare. I was there that weekend, Clark worked on his own car with the mechanics, everyone circulated freely, a different world. Don't envy it, just rejoice that it existed.

  • Jimmy Clark was a fabulous driver.

But, in my opinion, the best British driver in F1 was Stirling Moss.

If there was not that terrible accident in Goodwood 62, it would have been clear for everybody.

Just consider the season 61, with a private and old Lotus 18, Stirling dominated Jimmy (official Lotus driver)...

By the way, both are among the 5 best ever F1drivers (with Prost, Senna and Fangio, just before Stewart, Rindt and Schumacher)

  • senna is > schumacher and whats with the no love for Mikka :(

  • Jim Clark is teh BEST amongst Fangio and other excellent drivers!

  • anime998877 ..knows about racing..top 10 list i leave the same as him ,but i would put nelson piquet in 10 th place and put mansell in 13 or 14 lol.maybe he forgot people like jackie stewart ,ronnie peterson didier pironi and other gr8 drivers

  • Ahh, Jim Clark, a great driver, in my book he's rated 3rd, right behind Michael Schumacher.

  • hey ,ordinary shoes !!

  • indyfan and molly - thank you for info.

  • Which displacement for this engine? I guess

    1500/1600 for 120 - 140 bhp output...Any info?

  • If you watch the video you'll answer your own questions.

  • I guess that only Stewart, Lauda, Fittipaldi and Prost could drive a car in that smooth, clean, easy-drive style, economical but fast and precise....... Excellent, SUPERB!!!!

  • Don't forgot Michael Schumacher, his driving style wasn't the best, but you have to admit it's one of the smoothest driving styles out there, look at him on hot lap, like he never loses his cool, he drives first, and asks questions later, like Fangio and Clark

  • I agree buddy; I didn't put him between the "smoothest" drivers, but He was one of the few smooth and fast, totally right. By the way, in "my book", very similar to Murray Walker's, I have the following:

    1-Fangio

    2-3 Senna/Prost

    4-Clark

    5-Schumacher

    6-Lauda

    Only my point of view.......

  • Can you clear up who's 2nd and 3rd? Because I'm confused, is it Senna or Prost? Or are they equal? Anyway my top 10 is just a bit similar to yours 1. Fangio 2. Schumacher 3. Clark 4. Prost 5. Senna 6. Moss 7. Lauda 8. Ascari 9. Villenuve (Gilles) 10. Mansell I think Prost is better than Senna although Senna has an insane amount of poles, he can't repeat that in races. And Prost outscored him in both 1988 and 1989 with the same car. The "Professor" is a great driver.
  • Not to mention in races like Portugal '88, France '88, Japan '89(until they collided), Prost DESTROYED Senna. People think Senna is so amazing, they forget how good Prost is. Alain is a bit underrated if you ask me.

  • Sometimes Alain is underrated, but mainly by noobs who don't understand very much about F1 and motorsport..... You asked me who is 2nd and 3rd, Prost or Senna, Senna and Prost..... To be very honest, I don't feel I am an authorised voice to give such an statement... Both were superb drivers, I cannot tell you my friend, that's why I share those 2nd and 3rd with BOTH of them.... Anyway, I sent privately to you some thing about what you say, read them when have enough time buddy!! Then tell me !!

  • Thankyou so much! Someone else finally shares my opinion!

Ayrton Senna was a very skilled driver but it's wrong to say he was the best of his time and certainly not the best of all time

  • See, I would rate Jim Clark above Michael Schumacher because in Jimmy's era there were no aerodynamics and the cars used to slide a lot more. Michael's style used more oversteer and 4 wheel drifting according to Martin Brundle

  • I think thats pretty accurate, though obviously we'll never know. I think maybe if we were looking at fastest driver it would probably be very different. For example, the top ten may consist of Fangio, Clark, Stewart, Peterson, Lauda, Villeneuve, Prost, Senna, Bellof and Schumacher. I'm not including anyone after Schumachers last title as it's hard to say, especially with the media hype surrounding Hamilton. How many drivers get the best car in their first season? One every 10 years I think.

  • Although Hamilton's first seat in one of the best cars in F1 is not a coincidence, he only got it because of his talent which he proved, in my opinion.

  • Talent proved yes, however at the moment he does not have the best car and he's nowhere really. He's no more God like than than Senna or Schumacher.

  • He dead today 40 years on. R. I. P.

  • yes indigoblue555, he won the 500 in 1965, the first ever in a rear-engine car.

  • How soft the susp.was by then! The driving is smooth and quite precise;this was Clark style allowed by low power as well,as I see the tyres can still provide suff.grip with almost no spin out of corners - when powers did start increasing they had to change the driver's position too.

    Aside,did J.Clark win an Indy 500 too ?

  • its a lotus 25

  • unreal

  • this is real driving.he made it look so easy.what year is this??? this video is freakin awsome!!!!!!i'd rather drive this car than 2days f1 cars.

  • Well you simply couldn't dirve an F1 car though :)

It need amazing fitness and skill even just to drive it.

  • Fantastic precision. Such a rare angle to see for the time period.

  • parfect driving!!

I realy want to be a racing car driver like him.

  • me 2

  • Do it then. Theres nothing stopping you

  • Jim Clark was certainly the greatest driver of his day and possibly of any day.

    Apparently a wonderful man too.

  • great video

  • If only the narrator would shut up so we could hear the Climax! ^.^

  • This is perfection in driving. Agressive and precise, never missing an apex, not too shaky with the steering, this is how to explode a time lap. He was one of the greatests, because he was driving like that all the time. Fangio's driving style was more "heroic", but great as well. Imagine yourself driving a tube with four wheels with just an open helmet as a protection. Those guys would compare modern F1 to a videogame.

  • i wish i could get a change 2 drive that car.even if it was for 1 round

  • Nice driving.

  • Possibly the best F1 driver ever...

  • ...Fangio seemed to think so!

  • Very nice video :)

  • Ah, The late great Jim Clark, RIP.
