good luck with chevy steering if the bolts r still there the big three r made in mexico it took chevy to build a 50 thousand dollar 6.2l big block to beat toyota by a 16th of a sec congrats .
Chevy is a better truck, its more diversified, offering more than a half ton platform. it would be stupid of gm to make a half ton that would haul 10,000lbs or have 381 "fast" ponnies, there you would buy a duramax wich is what GM wants. the 1/2 ton game is for 1/2 hassed pick ups, i.e. nissan, toyota. the big 3 are just that..BIG, our 3/4 tons and above say leaps and bounds...you wouldnt dare tie that tundra to a cummins dmax or powerstroke, ya know a real truck!

oh please!, i've deeled with so many of you gay americans and do you think what you said bothers me? your just a gay 11 year old saving up money for a sex change
You seem to be focusing on things being gay for some reason. If you're a total flaming homo, that's your business. My statement is correct, and I have "dealt" with many ignorant fanboys such as yourself. And regardless of my age, I can still spell better than you. Enjoy being your gay self....I see you're embracing it.
More gayness from you. Yes, MEN go out with women...little homo fanboys like yourself do not. You go out with other little fanboys. Now, this doesn't change the fact my original statement was correct. You have no argument, so you want to go gay. If that's all you have, its sure isn't much. Toyotas have always been for those that don't need a complete truck, just a little piece of one. If you want to enjoy cock in yours, then go ahead. Keep your gayness to yourself and your boyfriend.
if i'm gay, then why am I saying yur gay? americans trucks are for people who have small penis's and they use these giant american trucks to make up for it, case closed so go admire howard stern's dick like you always do. i'm not gay, i have a girlfriend and I checked too
You clearly have never used a decent truck to its full capacity. You don't work on any vehicles or understand their mechanical attributes. You don't seem to have the brainpower to comprehend the extent of your ignorance. If you think a real truck represents "compensation", how do you feel about those tasteful stickers and wings on cars? Also, you must like cock very much to keep bringing it up each time.
BUGIVESHEAD! Bro, so by your logic you must not have a dick at all because you have a big lifted toyota, I dont remember japs inventing the pickup truck. I'll admit the japs make some good vehicles but they're just coping other auto manufactures, like thats difficult
Hardly any off road capabilities?? Why do you say that US? It has the best ground clearance, 4 WD, 4 WD Low, brake assist, standard limited slip differential and the best turning radius in a large pickup.
The only thing the Tundra doesn't have that is available in other trucks is the rear locker. However this is not a standard feature and I believe only the Silverado's offer this option. The Tundra comes standard with limited slip.
Ok 1st off there are vids on here at proving grounds where it gets no traction not as much stock aticulation. and yea mabye what like and inch or 2 more clearance so what?? Yea it has 4wd and 4 wd low id hope if i got a 4 wheel drive it has these options (2 hi,N,4hi,+4low) i also have a friend who has a (new)tundra mine 95 Z71 no lift and im (usually) the 1 pulling him out. whats ur point?
tundras are a pile of crap they have no engine that can even come close to a gm 6.6 duramax. sure they are not half tons but when a 1 ton is kicking a half tons ass in a race i think the 6.6 wins.
Are you serious? You would hope a 6.6 duramax would be able to beat the Iforce V8 5.7L Engine available in the Tundra. To my understanding the duramax is a diesel, where the Iforce is a gasoline engine. Alone the .9 extra Liters in the duramax even if it was gasoline would most likely beat the 5.7L in the Tundra. (Well with .9 extra liters I would sure hope so)
im wasting my time with you tundra lovers. when you get out of your daydream and want a real truck that can work and actualy haul somthing get a 3/4ton gmc
this video is full of BS, is not an even match, toyota is using their best truck against a regular chevy truck with a 4.8 vortec engine, i wanna see the 5.7 iforce engine compete againt the 6.0 vorte max engine, now thats an even match
Smile how do you know which engine that is in the Chevy? This is a dyno, the numbers are obviously taken at the rear wheels, not at the flywheel which is what the manufacturers use in their HP/TQ ratings. The 5.7 is more powerful than any engine in it's class, it will win every single time in this test.
because i know for sure that the chevy truck does not have the 6.0 Vortec max engine, chevy doest not make 5.7L engines , correct me if i am wrong but from what i know is that chevy only makes 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 V8 engines
Smile, you are absolutley correct, Chevy doen't make a 5.7 L engine, Toyota does. That is what I was refencing in my post. Toyota's 5.7 L engine is the most powerful engine in the 1/2 ton class. No engine available would top it in this test.
Total sales show the Ford F-Series and Chevrolet Silverado as the top two sellers in the country, followed by the Dodge Ram in fourth, according to sales information published by Automotive News. The Ford F-Series has been the best-selling vehicle in America for the past 24 years and the best-selling truck for the past 29. The Chevrolet Silverado is only second to the F-Series in U.S. sales. That is plain and simple. The Toyota tundra is overall 19th in sales.
Yes, you are correct, do you have the numbers on how much money those top for sellers in the country have lost in the last 5 years? I would guess around $15-30 billion between the four of them. That sounds like about how much Toyota makes every year to two years in profit. Were you somehow trying to refute my statement with your sales figures juicy?
WHOA krickbaumt! GET YOUR FACTS FIRST, NUMBER 1. The F150 is and has been the best selling vehicle in the counrty for 10 years and running, Yes toyota did become the top selling brand in fall of 06 but, it didn't even last until winter. I will admit, toyota is in the top 10 still but GM, FORD, and Dodge are still out selling it. Don't beleive me? look it up pal.
WHOA, everything I said was accurate juicy. Toyota is the most profitable car company in America. I never said anything about sales for the company, I said profits for the company. As far as my comment on the Tundra outselling the Sierra 1/2 ton that is completely accurate as well, you could look it up on pickuptruck dot com if you wanted... I doubt you want to though. The facts back up every word of my statement, please quit trying to call me out.
o yea toyota 5.7 vs chevy 4.8 thats fair. chevy should make a video showing a vortec max vs. the original iforce it would be just as one sided. like always it is between GMC/Chevy vs. Ford
ccc, the Tundra has more HP and TQ than any engine that GMC, Chevy or Ford offer in this class. This was a test of HP/ TQ, it wouldn't be fair no matter what engine you put in.
who cares about all the toyota commercials and ads that try to say they are better...nobody likes them and its an asian company so that says it all...and if someone says anything different they just cant handle the truth
Hmmm, "nobody likes them and its an asian company so that says it all."
Well considering Toyota is the most profitable car company in the world, and they are the best car company doing business in America right now as well, I must disagree americanmade07.
On another note, this year the Tundra has outsold the Sierra 1/2 ton.
Nice racism, I am finding these type of racist rants more and more on these truck video's. Do you know how racists are viewed in this country? Ignorant idiots.
my bad, im not i just got pissed, the truck is made in america, not by asians. Its just they show this truck competing with a silverado with its small v8, how can you have an equal match, put the vortec max in the chevy and it would be a different story.
Steve, it is physically impossible if both trucks are driven to their peak performances. The Tundra is faster and more powerful. The driver has absolutely no say in this.
Well the tundra has no heavy duty truck,......yet. ive only seen half tons, so how should it be more powerful than the other heavy duty pickups? like the f-250 and f-350?
Well steve the 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks are not 1/2 ton trucks. Is that hard to understand? The Tundra is a 1/2 ton. I know it is superior to the F150 in nearly all categories, and this is probably why you are holding it up to such high standards for a 1/2 ton. That is quite flattering though, comparing the Tundra to a 3/4 ton or even a 1 ton truck that costs $5,000 to $10,000 more.
Eyeing the F250 and 350? They have not decided on the HD truck, they do not want to get ahead of themselves as they have just now introduced their first full size 1/2 ton. I would venture a guess that the HD wouldn't come out for at least 3 years if they decide they are happy with where the current Tundra is at.
Yes, they most certainly research the competition, I don't know if eyeing is the correct word, but I understand what you are saying. I sure this research weighs greatly on their decision, we will have to wait and see I guess.
Also, why are we even talking about fully boxed frames on this video, neither truck is available with one, and this test is purely based on engine performance, a test in which the Tundra has no rival.
Yeah, it does have a rival, the sierra denali. Also, yes the silverado does have a fully boxed frame up to the rear spare tire carrier. The tundra's frame is only boxed at the engine bay.
The Denali costs $10,000 more, tows 2000lbs (?) less hauls less, is slower, and gets worse gas mileage. I guess you could consider that a rival, but since the Denali is not in the same class as the Tundra its not a valid comparision. The funny part is that the Tundra still has it beat.
Actually, the denali is abut 1/10 of a second quicker. Go to pickuptruck's site and type in sierra denali and click on the 2007 sierr denali road test to find out.
Well I guess different sites say different things. This from insideline
"But the GMC Sierra Denali is not the quickest truck on the market. That title is held by the new Toyota Tundra with its 381-hp, 5.7-liter V8. In our testing, the four-wheel-drive Tundra Double Cab pounds to 60 mph in just 6.3 seconds and runs the quarter-mile in 14.8 seconds at 93.7 mph, even though it weighs 328 pounds more than the Sierra Denali."
Ok, I will admit that GM did fuck up with only offering a 4speed in their trucks, but next year, toyota's reign as the power/torque champ will be over. Also, GM is putting a diesel with 520 lb. ft of torque diesel in their half tons by 2010 as well.
And on the frames I figured that if you were saying the Tundra didn't have a fully boxed frame (although you just stated that it does in the engine bay) that you would consider the Silverado to not be fully boxed either (although apparently somehow it gets a bye on that because it is 3/4's of the way fully boxed).
Reily you are taking crash test results from one test and I am taking them from another test. They say two different things, the test that is often thought of as the more thorough test is the one that the Tundra got the perfect score in. It is also the test that the F150 got the worst possible rating for rear collisions.
at the end of this year, the silverado is getting a 400 hp v8, that has been in the gmc sierra all year, hmmm, i wonder why toyota hasn't compared the tundra to the gmc?
the 07 tundra will kick all other trucks asses look at the tundra vs 1500 vid and tundra vs f 150 vid and the tundra vs the silverado tundra beats all and its all 07 versoins if u ask me the tundra should be the truck of the year not the silverado
don't forget, the tundra only has a 4 star crash test rating, the weakest frame and worst ride in its class, camshaft failures on the 5.7 liter v8, very cheap materials, etc.
Weakest frame in its class? Where do you get that information from jreily? Also 99.95% of the Tundras are running just fine. What cheap materials are you talking about. All the materials come from the US??
Well, let's see...the tundra's frame is only boxed in the front and the rest is open c-channel. Both the silverado and the f150 have fully boxed frames, so you tell me dumbass! Also, the tundra is designed in Japan. The metal that the seats are bolted to is about as thick as a tin can. Oh, and the tundra got a 4 star crash test rating for both the reg. cab and crew cab models.
What kind of a frame does the F250, F350, Dodge 2500 and 3500, Silverado 2500 and 3500 have? What kind of a frame does a Mack truck semi have reily? The answer for all of those is an open C channel. A truck that bends is a truck that doesn't break.
First of all reily, your original argument on why the Tundra's frame sucked had nothing to do with thickness of the steel, you simply stated that an open C channel frame was inferior to a fully boxed frame as far as strength goes. Secondly, all the steel is American made, I'm pretty positive it is of relatively the same strength. Thickness you are correct, the big boys do use thicker frames.
My point is that the Tundra frame is just fine. In fact a number of comparison reviews felt the Tundra was stiffer in offroad settings than the competition.
That's funny, every comparison I've read says that the f150's and silverado's frames are much more resistant to bending and twisting than the tundra's frame.
Car and Driver had this to say of the Tundra in its 1/2 ton comparison test:
"The on-road ride is firmer than that of the others, seriously firm. You feel every impact, but you don't hear them, such is the sophistication of this chassis. And it pays off in the outback: This Tundra dances over the chucks and humps with excellent control and no sense that it's being abused."
Finally a poor argument on your part (a fully boxed frame being superior to an open C channel frame would be a poor argument) does not constitute me being either a "dumbass" or an "idiot" and putting such statements at the end of your poor arguments does not make a poor argument a valid argument.
but anyway who cares? Why don't you just see who sells more trucks Chevy or Toyota? Yeah that's what I though bitch. Also, the silverado surpassed the f150 recently in sales.
LOL, so who sells more trucks is your argument now? Well considering that Toyota produces 1/5 as many as Chevy does I would hope that Chevy could beat the Tundra there. Once again, name calling does not make an invalid argument valid. Try to at least find something reily, other than that I am a bitch, dumbass, idiot.
I guess so. I think it all comes down in the strength and thickness of the steel. For example, if you have a fully boxed frame with steel that is rated at 36,000 psi and an open c-channel frame with steel that is rated at 50,000 psi, which do you think is stronger?
Also, I've always wandered why trucks don't use aircraft aluminum for their frames. It's a lot stronger than steel and lighter too. However, I think it is way too expensive and it's harder to weld I think.
Pretty sure that was the 5.7. The 4.7 is only rated at 281HP. You must remember this test was only from what 50 - 70 MPH. Certainly not getting the entire HP rating for either truck.
Arguing looks is completly pointless. I like the look of the Tundra and I think the Ford and Nissan are the two ugliest trucks you can buy. Looks are not comparable, power, price, towing/hauling capacities are easily comparable and are things that are important to 1/2 ton buyers. The Tundra DoubleCab wins in all of these.
First off I never talked about a tow off in these posts?? I don't know where you got that from? Secondly the Tundra DoubleCab can tow more than the Ford, Dodge or Chevy CrewCab/SuperCrew trucks. It can also haul more, gets more HP/torque out of a smaller engine (than the Chevy or Dodge) and costs less at list price than these trucks when you purchase options comparable to what the Tundra comes with.
So you mean to tell me that you don't think that it makes a difference if a vehicle is in 2WD vs. 4WD when in a tow off huh....well sorry to burst your bubble pal, but it does...maybe you should get out of your toyota camery and try driving a truck once...and maybe even get into a tow off with someone and see how it actually works
Thats just the thing, the Tundra doesn't look bad compared to any Chevy, it looks better. The Tundra has more HP and Torque than your holy Vortec 6 L, it is as simple as that. That HP is better transferred to the tires in the Tundra as is seen in the acceleration times of the Tundra when compared to the Silverado. I don't see how this is even a question?
Park a Tundra next to a Silverado, F-150, Ram...pretty much anything and it look VERY BAD...the new Tundra's are by far the ugliest trucks on the market! PERIOD.
That was a Silverado 5.3..not the Vortec Maxx 6.0...if it was the 6.0 it would be putting up greater numbers than that! Not to mention that this is a test put on by TOYOTA! Why don't they do a test from an unbiased source like some dyno tuner performance shop and get some legit figures on there...not a test put on by GM or toyota...do you think that either manufactuer would let either of their vehicles look bad in a test like this....
Does that make sense to you Chevy guys? Or is it possible that the Silverado gets less HP to the wheels because it only has a 4 speed while the Tundra has a 6 speed, and all 8 cylinders are running then entire time for the Tundra while the Silverado is running on 4 cylinders for part of the time?
More badging? It would say VortecMax on the side I believe and that is it. You don't get a good enough view in this video to even see if it has badging. I think it is quite clear that this is the Vortec Max, unless you guys believe that the Silverado can get 5% more of its horsepower to the tires by the way of a much weaker transmission and a 4 cylinder shut off active fuel management system?
Actually that just shows you how weak the setup is for that 6.0L. Between the 4cyl shut off and 4 speed transmission the Silverado definetly does not get the most of their 6.0 Liters.
Yea the tundra did get owned a 5.3 liter against a 5.7 liter, youd expect way more out of the 5.7 liter but the difference aint much, plus the tundras already come with more performance wise headers, put some on the chevy and the chevy will probably be better!
Its an option it doesnt come standard, plus its not even the LtZ package its an lt, plus it would have had more emblems on it saying vortex max, and also they would of said it in the video. Doesnt the toyota have beefire axles and a beefier 6 speed tranny, well it looks like it didnt do much!
good luck with chevy steering if the bolts r still there the big three r made in mexico it took chevy to build a 50 thousand dollar 6.2l big block to beat toyota by a 16th of a sec congrats .

MaybeYouJustSuck 3 years ago 2
if i'm gay, then why am I saying yur gay? americans trucks are for people who have small penis's and they use these giant american trucks to make up for it, case closed so go admire howard stern's dick like you always do. i'm not gay, i have a girlfriend and I checked too
Buhundred 3 years ago
You clearly have never used a decent truck to its full capacity. You don't work on any vehicles or understand their mechanical attributes. You don't seem to have the brainpower to comprehend the extent of your ignorance. If you think a real truck represents "compensation", how do you feel about those tasteful stickers and wings on cars? Also, you must like cock very much to keep bringing it up each time.
MaybeYouJustSuck 3 years ago
BUGIVESHEAD! Bro, so by your logic you must not have a dick at all because you have a big lifted toyota, I dont remember japs inventing the pickup truck. I'll admit the japs make some good vehicles but they're just coping other auto manufactures, like thats difficult

tundra may have a little more power but its built like a damn car! hardly any off road capabilities at all! P.O.S. for a truck
USZ71 4 years ago
Hardly any off road capabilities?? Why do you say that US? It has the best ground clearance, 4 WD, 4 WD Low, brake assist, standard limited slip differential and the best turning radius in a large pickup.
wikiwikiwildwest 4 years ago
The only thing the Tundra doesn't have that is available in other trucks is the rear locker. However this is not a standard feature and I believe only the Silverado's offer this option. The Tundra comes standard with limited slip.
wikiwikiwildwest 4 years ago
Ok 1st off there are vids on here at proving grounds where it gets no traction not as much stock aticulation. and yea mabye what like and inch or 2 more clearance so what?? Yea it has 4wd and 4 wd low id hope if i got a 4 wheel drive it has these options (2 hi,N,4hi,+4low) i also have a friend who has a (new)tundra mine 95 Z71 no lift and im (usually) the 1 pulling him out. whats ur point?
USZ71 4 years ago
tundras are a pile of crap they have no engine that can even come close to a gm 6.6 duramax. sure they are not half tons but when a 1 ton is kicking a half tons ass in a race i think the 6.6 wins.
church1117 4 years ago
Are you serious? You would hope a 6.6 duramax would be able to beat the Iforce V8 5.7L Engine available in the Tundra. To my understanding the duramax is a diesel, where the Iforce is a gasoline engine. Alone the .9 extra Liters in the duramax even if it was gasoline would most likely beat the 5.7L in the Tundra. (Well with .9 extra liters I would sure hope so)
Frenchy494 4 years ago
bud i know it will kick the tundras ass
church1117 4 years ago
Would kick the Tundra's ass how?? Are you talking about racing church?
wikiwikiwildwest 4 years ago
LOL yeah the duramax costs a bundle more than the DC 5.7L Tundra. Might was well compare a 4.6L mustang with a C6 corvette.
warriors88888888 4 years ago
The 6.6 would most certainly lose to the Tundra. The Reg Cab gets to 60 in under 5.5 seconds... stock.

this video is full of BS, is not an even match, toyota is using their best truck against a regular chevy truck with a 4.8 vortec engine, i wanna see the 5.7 iforce engine compete againt the 6.0 vorte max engine, now thats an even match
smilenow1 4 years ago
Smile how do you know which engine that is in the Chevy? This is a dyno, the numbers are obviously taken at the rear wheels, not at the flywheel which is what the manufacturers use in their HP/TQ ratings. The 5.7 is more powerful than any engine in it's class, it will win every single time in this test.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
because i know for sure that the chevy truck does not have the 6.0 Vortec max engine, chevy doest not make 5.7L engines , correct me if i am wrong but from what i know is that chevy only makes 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 V8 engines
smilenow1 4 years ago
Smile, you are absolutley correct, Chevy doen't make a 5.7 L engine, Toyota does. That is what I was refencing in my post. Toyota's 5.7 L engine is the most powerful engine in the 1/2 ton class. No engine available would top it in this test.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Yup, besides even with the extra .3 litters on their V8 engine they about 20 HP off of what the Iforce puts off.

The Toyota tundra is overall 19th in sales.
juicyjterd1 4 years ago
Yes, you are correct, do you have the numbers on how much money those top for sellers in the country have lost in the last 5 years? I would guess around $15-30 billion between the four of them. That sounds like about how much Toyota makes every year to two years in profit. Were you somehow trying to refute my statement with your sales figures juicy?
krickbaumt 4 years ago
WHOA krickbaumt! GET YOUR FACTS FIRST, NUMBER 1. The F150 is and has been the best selling vehicle in the counrty for 10 years and running, Yes toyota did become the top selling brand in fall of 06 but, it didn't even last until winter. I will admit, toyota is in the top 10 still but GM, FORD, and Dodge are still out selling it. Don't beleive me? look it up pal.
juicyjterd1 4 years ago
WHOA, everything I said was accurate juicy. Toyota is the most profitable car company in America. I never said anything about sales for the company, I said profits for the company. As far as my comment on the Tundra outselling the Sierra 1/2 ton that is completely accurate as well, you could look it up on pickuptruck dot com if you wanted... I doubt you want to though. The facts back up every word of my statement, please quit trying to call me out.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
o yea toyota 5.7 vs chevy 4.8 thats fair. chevy should make a video showing a vortec max vs. the original iforce it would be just as one sided. like always it is between GMC/Chevy vs. Ford
toyota cars = great
Toyota trucks = overpriced junk
cccfabioccc 4 years ago
ccc, the Tundra has more HP and TQ than any engine that GMC, Chevy or Ford offer in this class. This was a test of HP/ TQ, it wouldn't be fair no matter what engine you put in.

who cares about all the toyota commercials and ads that try to say they are better...nobody likes them and its an asian company so that says it all...and if someone says anything different they just cant handle the truth
americanmade07 4 years ago
Hmmm, "nobody likes them and its an asian company so that says it all."
Well considering Toyota is the most profitable car company in the world, and they are the best car company doing business in America right now as well, I must disagree americanmade07.
On another note, this year the Tundra has outsold the Sierra 1/2 ton.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
I fuckin hate asians, when you build a truck, then come to america, the chevy wasnt even a vortec max, stupid

Nice racism, I am finding these type of racist rants more and more on these truck video's. Do you know how racists are viewed in this country? Ignorant idiots.
krickbaumt 4 years ago 2
my bad, im not i just got pissed, the truck is made in america, not by asians. Its just they show this truck competing with a silverado with its small v8, how can you have an equal match, put the vortec max in the chevy and it would be a different story.
camarosam 4 years ago
Why do you assume that was the small V8 Silverado?
krickbaumt 4 years ago 2
Cause it does not say MAX on the side door, which means its their smaller v8. Which makes this a not so fair competition.
camarosam 4 years ago
Camaro, you can't even see the spot the badge should be in this video, what are you talking about.

Baloney...The video is offset. It's a proven fact that red cars are faster. I saw it on mythbusters one night I was high.
araiza565 4 years ago
Put me in that chevy, and i will win. the tundra just got lucky cuz it probably was at a little higher speed.
steve2848 4 years ago
Steve the no Silverado engine could beat the Tundra here, it doesn't matter if Cole Trickle was driving.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
i would help the chevy win. u probably never own or even drivin a chevy truck for that matter.
steve2848 4 years ago
Steve you make no sense, please quit posting.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
All im saying is that i can win this "which is faster" race. and that u really need to get over ur defence of the tundra.
steve2848 4 years ago
Steve, it is physically impossible if both trucks are driven to their peak performances. The Tundra is faster and more powerful. The driver has absolutely no say in this.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Well the tundra has no heavy duty truck,......yet. ive only seen half tons, so how should it be more powerful than the other heavy duty pickups? like the f-250 and f-350?
steve2848 4 years ago
Well steve the 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks are not 1/2 ton trucks. Is that hard to understand? The Tundra is a 1/2 ton. I know it is superior to the F150 in nearly all categories, and this is probably why you are holding it up to such high standards for a 1/2 ton. That is quite flattering though, comparing the Tundra to a 3/4 ton or even a 1 ton truck that costs $5,000 to $10,000 more.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
well, is it ture that toyota is going to make a heavyer duty truck? i read that they have been eyeying the f-250 and 350 for a while.
steve2848 4 years ago
Eyeing the F250 and 350? They have not decided on the HD truck, they do not want to get ahead of themselves as they have just now introduced their first full size 1/2 ton. I would venture a guess that the HD wouldn't come out for at least 3 years if they decide they are happy with where the current Tundra is at.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
yup, eyeying, my guess is that they do reserch on the ford pick ups.
steve2848 4 years ago
Yes, they most certainly research the competition, I don't know if eyeing is the correct word, but I understand what you are saying. I sure this research weighs greatly on their decision, we will have to wait and see I guess.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Word punch, it's amazing these things don't happen in F250's or F350's with those weak sauce C Channel frames they have.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Punch, punch, punch... I was being sarcastic son, and this is not a problem because it doesn't occur in Tundra's... unless you can prove otherwise.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Also, why are we even talking about fully boxed frames on this video, neither truck is available with one, and this test is purely based on engine performance, a test in which the Tundra has no rival.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Yeah, it does have a rival, the sierra denali. Also, yes the silverado does have a fully boxed frame up to the rear spare tire carrier. The tundra's frame is only boxed at the engine bay.
jreily1988 4 years ago
The Denali costs $10,000 more, tows 2000lbs (?) less hauls less, is slower, and gets worse gas mileage. I guess you could consider that a rival, but since the Denali is not in the same class as the Tundra its not a valid comparision. The funny part is that the Tundra still has it beat.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Actually, the denali is abut 1/10 of a second quicker. Go to pickuptruck's site and type in sierra denali and click on the 2007 sierr denali road test to find out.
jreily1988 4 years ago
Well I guess different sites say different things. This from insideline
"But the GMC Sierra Denali is not the quickest truck on the market. That title is held by the new Toyota Tundra with its 381-hp, 5.7-liter V8. In our testing, the four-wheel-drive Tundra Double Cab pounds to 60 mph in just 6.3 seconds and runs the quarter-mile in 14.8 seconds at 93.7 mph, even though it weighs 328 pounds more than the Sierra Denali."
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Probably because of the lower gear ratio. Oh well, GM is putting the 403 hp and 6 speed auto in all of their half tons next year.
jreily1988 4 years ago
So you are conceeding that they are a step behind Toyota, who offers this combo in the Tundra currently?
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Ok, I will admit that GM did fuck up with only offering a 4speed in their trucks, but next year, toyota's reign as the power/torque champ will be over. Also, GM is putting a diesel with 520 lb. ft of torque diesel in their half tons by 2010 as well.
jreily1988 4 years ago
And on the frames I figured that if you were saying the Tundra didn't have a fully boxed frame (although you just stated that it does in the engine bay) that you would consider the Silverado to not be fully boxed either (although apparently somehow it gets a bye on that because it is 3/4's of the way fully boxed).
krickbaumt 4 years ago
So, that would mean the the tundra's frame is only 1/4 boxed right, or 1/3?
jreily1988 4 years ago
I believe 1/3 would be more accurate, either way neither the Tundra nor the Silverado truly has a fully boxed frame.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
And the Tundra got a perfect score in the IIHS crash test.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Reily you are taking crash test results from one test and I am taking them from another test. They say two different things, the test that is often thought of as the more thorough test is the one that the Tundra got the perfect score in. It is also the test that the F150 got the worst possible rating for rear collisions.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
at the end of this year, the silverado is getting a 400 hp v8, that has been in the gmc sierra all year, hmmm, i wonder why toyota hasn't compared the tundra to the gmc?
xx2plyxx 4 years ago
the 07 tundra will kick all other trucks asses look at the tundra vs 1500 vid and tundra vs f 150 vid and the tundra vs the silverado tundra beats all and its all 07 versoins if u ask me the tundra should be the truck of the year not the silverado
kickinminnow 4 years ago
don't forget, the tundra only has a 4 star crash test rating, the weakest frame and worst ride in its class, camshaft failures on the 5.7 liter v8, very cheap materials, etc.
jreily1988 4 years ago
Weakest frame in its class? Where do you get that information from jreily? Also 99.95% of the Tundras are running just fine. What cheap materials are you talking about. All the materials come from the US??
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Well, let's see...the tundra's frame is only boxed in the front and the rest is open c-channel. Both the silverado and the f150 have fully boxed frames, so you tell me dumbass! Also, the tundra is designed in Japan. The metal that the seats are bolted to is about as thick as a tin can. Oh, and the tundra got a 4 star crash test rating for both the reg. cab and crew cab models.
jreily1988 4 years ago
What kind of a frame does the F250, F350, Dodge 2500 and 3500, Silverado 2500 and 3500 have? What kind of a frame does a Mack truck semi have reily? The answer for all of those is an open C channel. A truck that bends is a truck that doesn't break.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
True, but those trucks use stronger and thicker steel than the smaller pickups you idiot.
jreily1988 4 years ago
First of all reily, your original argument on why the Tundra's frame sucked had nothing to do with thickness of the steel, you simply stated that an open C channel frame was inferior to a fully boxed frame as far as strength goes. Secondly, all the steel is American made, I'm pretty positive it is of relatively the same strength. Thickness you are correct, the big boys do use thicker frames.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
My point is that the Tundra frame is just fine. In fact a number of comparison reviews felt the Tundra was stiffer in offroad settings than the competition.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
That's funny, every comparison I've read says that the f150's and silverado's frames are much more resistant to bending and twisting than the tundra's frame.
jreily1988 4 years ago
What comparisions are those reily?
krickbaumt 4 years ago
What comparisions are those reily?
Car and Driver had this to say of the Tundra in its 1/2 ton comparison test:
"The on-road ride is firmer than that of the others, seriously firm. You feel every impact, but you don't hear them, such is the sophistication of this chassis. And it pays off in the outback: This Tundra dances over the chucks and humps with excellent control and no sense that it's being abused."
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Then why did the silverado take the top prize in Car and Driver's 5 best test?
jreily1988 4 years ago
Probably the same reason the Tundra took the top prize in Edmunds comparison test, they liked that truck the best.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
You spoke of reading comparison's, which ones have you read?
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Finally a poor argument on your part (a fully boxed frame being superior to an open C channel frame would be a poor argument) does not constitute me being either a "dumbass" or an "idiot" and putting such statements at the end of your poor arguments does not make a poor argument a valid argument.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
but anyway who cares? Why don't you just see who sells more trucks Chevy or Toyota? Yeah that's what I though bitch. Also, the silverado surpassed the f150 recently in sales.
jreily1988 4 years ago
LOL, so who sells more trucks is your argument now? Well considering that Toyota produces 1/5 as many as Chevy does I would hope that Chevy could beat the Tundra there. Once again, name calling does not make an invalid argument valid. Try to at least find something reily, other than that I am a bitch, dumbass, idiot.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Okay, type in ford vs. toyota frame strength and watch the video.
jreily1988 4 years ago
I don't know, I trust Car and Driver to be a little less biased than a Ford prove it type tour.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
Actually the Dodge 2500/3500 HD use fully boxed fames.
ilocan 4 years ago
You are correct, it seems as if even the 1500 has a fully boxed frame? Is that correct?
krickbaumt 4 years ago
yeah, it has a fully boxed frame. I contacted peterbuilt on why semis all use c-channel frames, and this is what they said.
"For the assembly process, as bolts are fastened to the frame, the u
shape allows the fastening of the nuts, etc. to the inside.
jreily1988 4 years ago
So all this talk about a fully boxed frame is really nonsense?
krickbaumt 4 years ago
I guess so. I think it all comes down in the strength and thickness of the steel. For example, if you have a fully boxed frame with steel that is rated at 36,000 psi and an open c-channel frame with steel that is rated at 50,000 psi, which do you think is stronger?
jreily1988 4 years ago
Also, I've always wandered why trucks don't use aircraft aluminum for their frames. It's a lot stronger than steel and lighter too. However, I think it is way too expensive and it's harder to weld I think.
jreily1988 4 years ago
Yeah...probably the reason why it has the lowest towing/payload capacity in its class. The chassis cab models, however use c-channel frames.
jreily1988 4 years ago
Also the only truck that has a fully boxed frame is the F150, all of the others have stuck with something different.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
TRD package?? I didn't see any bumps in that test where both trucks were strapped to the Dyno??
krickbaumt 4 years ago
and why isnt the nissan titan in the truck competition?
steve2848 4 years ago
but still, why have the tundra with an off road package? and the chevy without an off road option?
steve2848 4 years ago
toyota cheats yet again, the tundra has the TRD option, and the silverado looks all plain, with no options.
steve2848 4 years ago
um....TRD is just a beefed up shocks and some skid plates. The Chevy was the 6.0 vs. a 5.7 Tundra. How do ya like them apples?
ericdetwiler 4 years ago
Pretty sure that was the 5.7. The 4.7 is only rated at 281HP. You must remember this test was only from what 50 - 70 MPH. Certainly not getting the entire HP rating for either truck.
krickbaumt 4 years ago
lol that was the 4.7 tundra
gdcod3player 4 years ago
Clearly? Whats the bias? You can not tell what engine the Chevy has so don't say that its a 5.3 L clearly.
krickbaum 4 years ago
This test is clearly biased in favor of the tundra.
CHELITO85 4 years ago
Arguing looks is completly pointless. I like the look of the Tundra and I think the Ford and Nissan are the two ugliest trucks you can buy. Looks are not comparable, power, price, towing/hauling capacities are easily comparable and are things that are important to 1/2 ton buyers. The Tundra DoubleCab wins in all of these.
krickbaum 4 years ago
First off I never talked about a tow off in these posts?? I don't know where you got that from? Secondly the Tundra DoubleCab can tow more than the Ford, Dodge or Chevy CrewCab/SuperCrew trucks. It can also haul more, gets more HP/torque out of a smaller engine (than the Chevy or Dodge) and costs less at list price than these trucks when you purchase options comparable to what the Tundra comes with.
krickbaum 4 years ago
So you mean to tell me that you don't think that it makes a difference if a vehicle is in 2WD vs. 4WD when in a tow off huh....well sorry to burst your bubble pal, but it does...maybe you should get out of your toyota camery and try driving a truck once...and maybe even get into a tow off with someone and see how it actually works
scottythor 4 years ago
There have been plenty of tests from unbiased sources. Check out Edmunds dot com.
krickbaum 4 years ago
Thats just the thing, the Tundra doesn't look bad compared to any Chevy, it looks better. The Tundra has more HP and Torque than your holy Vortec 6 L, it is as simple as that. That HP is better transferred to the tires in the Tundra as is seen in the acceleration times of the Tundra when compared to the Silverado. I don't see how this is even a question?
krickbaum 4 years ago
Park a Tundra next to a Silverado, F-150, Ram...pretty much anything and it look VERY BAD...the new Tundra's are by far the ugliest trucks on the market! PERIOD.
scottythor 4 years ago
OMG! You've got to be kidding. There is nothing ugly about this truck!
Smiley333333 4 years ago
That was a Silverado 5.3..not the Vortec Maxx 6.0...if it was the 6.0 it would be putting up greater numbers than that! Not to mention that this is a test put on by TOYOTA! Why don't they do a test from an unbiased source like some dyno tuner performance shop and get some legit figures on there...not a test put on by GM or toyota...do you think that either manufactuer would let either of their vehicles look bad in a test like this....
scottythor 4 years ago
Does that make sense to you Chevy guys? Or is it possible that the Silverado gets less HP to the wheels because it only has a 4 speed while the Tundra has a 6 speed, and all 8 cylinders are running then entire time for the Tundra while the Silverado is running on 4 cylinders for part of the time?
krickbaum 4 years ago
More badging? It would say VortecMax on the side I believe and that is it. You don't get a good enough view in this video to even see if it has badging. I think it is quite clear that this is the Vortec Max, unless you guys believe that the Silverado can get 5% more of its horsepower to the tires by the way of a much weaker transmission and a 4 cylinder shut off active fuel management system?
krickbaum 4 years ago
Actually that just shows you how weak the setup is for that 6.0L. Between the 4cyl shut off and 4 speed transmission the Silverado definetly does not get the most of their 6.0 Liters.
krickbaum 4 years ago
Yea the tundra did get owned a 5.3 liter against a 5.7 liter, youd expect way more out of the 5.7 liter but the difference aint much, plus the tundras already come with more performance wise headers, put some on the chevy and the chevy will probably be better!
Silvy hp/torq: 249/278
Tundra hp/torq: 285/304
Difference hp/torq: 36/26
And yet the chevy is .4 liters less.
liljon285 4 years ago
actual dat was a 6.0 so it should have more horsepower but thats the kind of crap that chevy makes
jacshorty 4 years ago
Thats actually a 5.3, they dont come 6.0 in half ton.
liljon285 4 years ago
Your wrong again the half ton come with The max vortex engine check it out at the website.
The 1LT 2LT LTZ are the ones that come with it.
jacshorty 4 years ago
Its an option it doesnt come standard, plus its not even the LtZ package its an lt, plus it would have had more emblems on it saying vortex max, and also they would of said it in the video. Doesnt the toyota have beefire axles and a beefier 6 speed tranny, well it looks like it didnt do much!
