Im not trying to be a dick and I absolutely do resepct TKD as I did take it for a while when I was younger, but sometimes these instructors really, really, really need to teach people to cover their face because god forbid you ever need to use TKD in defense of yourself/others and you just happen to encounter somebody that can really throw punches, typical TKD instruction can leave your head wide open for a knockout blow. I think its really helpful to mix it with some boxing.
@NancyPelosi1954 I completely agree, my instructor use to wack us in the head with this foam baton everytime we wouldnt, me being 12 thought it was hilarious but 4 years later i understand why because getting punched isnt fun lol
@NancyPelosi1954 Or just do karate. I started out in TKD, then got owned by a karate student, found a good karate style and havent regretted it once. Karate is so much better.
@NancyPelosi1954 Nope. You generate so much mor power when your front leg isnt turned to the side, and you use you hips and dont colapse them when you kick. For a style centred around kicking, TKD is horrible at it. And then explain to me then why Ive only ever lost one fight agaisnt TKD practitioners then?
@six6sixpounder Because modern TKD is taught completely in a rubbish manner, sport is given priority over the self defense aspects. If you learn to use TKD intelligently and keep in mind that offense is not always your best defense. TKD can whoop some serious ass. It all depends on the fighter, I'm sorry if your TKD instruction was piss poor. Mixing elements of TKD with other martial arts and boxing and muay thai can truly be devastating.
@NancyPelosi1954 I understand, the same thing is happening to karate at a lot of clubs (thankfully, not mine). All im saying is that TKD isnt a good art. A prime example: there are no TKD fighters in the UFC, and no-one employes TKD instructors to teach them how to kick.
@NancyPelosi1954 Thats not the point, every style has techniques that arent allowed in competition. What Im saying is when people in the UFC want to learn to kick they see karate and muay thai instructors, not TKD ones, because TKD kicks arent as effective.
@six6sixpounder and in my opinion TKD kicks are the most powerfull kicks... now if someone is gonna enter guard ofcourse it's not smart to back spin heel kick but a tornado kick is always sure k.o. if done right, and if there's a miss a back spin when the man charges is always fun.. in the end all martial arts have pretty much the same basic techniques.. but in many fights (if you look for kick K.O.s) they are pretty much TKD influenced techniques (this is sports not self defense)
@six6sixpounder u have everything wrong its almost impossible to learn real TKD its the onlyones youll find these days are the sports ones.TKD isnt about kicks.real TKD used knees elbows kicks and punches but now u can barely find REAL taekwondo.
@six6sixpounder this is where you are wrong. my dad is a photographer for the UFC events and what not and very time he interviews someone, they ALWAYS say that they first learned TKD to master and to polish their kicks. TKD is a really strong base for all UFC fighters believe it or not.
@six6sixpounder why should TKD not be a good art? the key word is art, TKD IS a martial art, and never should another martial art have standars to UFC, UFC is mixed martial arts, it's a brutal sport that tries to keep things as close to real fighting with least rules possible, i don't hate UFC, but every SPORT is different, and so is every martial art, each one has weaknesses and advantages, and no martial art should be compared to another, they were made for art or selfdefense
@Veng3ence Because a martial art (key word being martial) is about fighting, so when you dont learn how to fight properly in one, you know it's a dud.
@six6sixpounder yes but just so you know... there's many types of TKD... i dont do TKD ...BUT TKD WAS or still is combat training in Korea, all martial arts uses kicks, punches grabs and locks, only put into BS sport forms do things seem more like crap e.g. TKD people think you only use your legs, and in Judo only throw people on the floor, no martial art trains in only 1 thing, they all originaly were made for combat/self defense, and also an art.
this is a good point that you make. I hate to admit it, but a LOT of TKD schools are too much into sport to be that effective. In my school my master hated it, but still taught unreal one-step techniques just because some ppl get into tkd for different reasons. Still in a fight, one is likely to use things u wont see in sparring like a front kick to the nuts, or a punch to the nose, simple things that are illegal in full-contact. But they are illegal because it is full contact
@imreadydoctor lolz in my TKD we do practice a bit of point sparring. but most the time we do free style where anything goes and we're taught hapkido along side our TKD that we're allowed to use as well
@Goukimessatsu2 One reason I think TKD has a bad name are bad instructors. Many scavange upon this beautifle art and make it in to a kicking parad. I have seen it on my own eyes.
@JordyBT Thanks, but it cool. I simply spread the word to anyone looking to get into martial arts. I warn them and tell them things to observe before they sign the contract.
@1ultimatehock HAHAHA !!!!!!! XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!! By the way, there is a technich where the guys is jumping and at the same time kicking, how is it call?
One of the best things about Taekwondo is their foot work and feints that are largely overlooked by many fighters.

@six6sixpounder Wrong, its not good for sport fighting, there is plenty of TKD moves that won't fly under sport constraints.
