  • The real problem is fatigue!American companies are too worried about the profit, and want to take out the most of their crews. In the EU,a airline license(they call JAA ATPL)you can get a airline job with 250hr flying shorthaul, the difference is the JAA way of training is more robust.FAA ATP is less than 3 months,4 weeks or less for a PPL,6 wks for IR,3 for commercial,in Europe ATPL theory is tough and is 7 months full time,PPL 2months,plus Commercial,Jet orientation course, and other add ons!

  • if you design a harder syllabus, and do assesments for the right candidates, you'll get the right "stuff",it doesnt matter if they have 1500hrs or 250hrs,they are human,if they are tired, they are TIRED end of!Respect rest periods, give them extra time off, better salary and FAA introduce better training standards, thats the solution for the USA.Also,a cynical point,is actually cheaper to pay off the families indemnisations, and get the aircraft insurance money, then give crews better conditions...

  • That statement is not true; take a look at U.S. congress HR 3371 - passed the house last year, and FAA NPRM regarding pilot experience and training.
