My thing is, I've recently been diagnosed with anorexia, and that is because I haven't been eating, and I have the mind set, when the signs have only started recently, and bulimics, they binge, then throw up, and many of them are not twig thin, let's see a real commercial
I can't believe that once again there's an eating disorder commercial/ad that is yet another skinny girl.. not all anorexics/bulimics are that thin...
I could definitely see why they may be triggering. Honestly, the adverts are done more for shock value, unfortunately, just like any news programme you see about eating disorders, or talk shows that invite guests with EDs onto the shows. You'll notice on news broadcasts and shows like Oprah/Dr Phil, they always HAVE to mention their low weight or their "shockingly thin current weight!" as though that is really the only thing that EDs are about. It's just...ridiculous.
@peacenlove637 I agree when i saw one of these commercials 2 years ago where a girl got down to like 73 pounds. I immediately thought that i should do that too because I was anorexic at the time.
I think all the LGF adverts are really powerful, but why does the foundation claim that they are bringing awareness to EDs if they have only focussed on anorexia nervosa (well, at least the painfully obvious criteria of being 85% or lower of IBW)?
I agree, they don't show how others with ed's look, they may be a normal weight, overweight, or underweight. they need to raise awareness about ALL ed's not just anorexia & bulimia though I have non-purging bulimia myself. I think they should show people what OTHER ed's are out there besides these two. because ALL ed's have the same mental & sometimes physical effects.
And not only do they have similar root "causes" and triggers, but if you have a longtime, chronic ED, you typically don't just stay within one tiny box of diagnosable anorexia or bulimia nervosa. :\ There are months, years where you might be at a normal/"over"weight, but still struggle with an eating disorder like bulimia nervosa...and then the next months, years you struggle with anorexia nervosa, and drop below 85% of IBW. It's just the nature of the beast. These ads just seem cliche, I think.
@peacenlove637 thank you! I also have non-purging bullemia, and i feel like i shouldnt consider myself as someone with an eating disorder, but its just the same.
@peacenlove637 Yeah same, I've had mine for four years, coming up on five unfortunatley. I beleive there are so many cases of this that are not properly helped, and nobody seems to understand it.
