It's really great that you do these. I have such a hard time reading pattern abbreviations and making any sense of them, so it's wonderful to be able to grab some yarn and follow along! Thanks!
you are amazing!! I love your tutorials!!! i have learned a lot, thank you. I was also wonder if you have any good designs for blankets? I'm trying to crochet one for my bf and was wondering if you can recomment a style that would be ideal for a man, thanks
this is very very nice i will make one for our bed as bed cover....infact i've made one the large wheel stitches i used only two colors white and blue...very beautiful i just follow your instruction and voila i've made one so easily...and my friend was very happy when i gave it to her for her baby . Still four months from now...she will give birth...then she will have something nice to cover her baby...thank you very much...youre very nice.
doesnt holding the yarn with your middle finger cramp up your hand? I was always taught to hold the work with that finger and thumb, and hold the yarn with my index....is your way easier on the hands?
I hold my yarn the way I do because the way they taught in the book was very uncomfortable and cramped my index finger. I tell people to hold the yarn how they are most comfortable.
I've got my needles, I've got my wool, and I'm ready to start practicing, but I tells ya, I love watching the experts do it so quickly... just some peaceful about watching knitting. Great work!
Thank you, I appreciate the comment. Keep in mind the pause button and rewind if you need to watch a segment over again. Both are very helpful tools.
wow finally a person who can teach, you are excellant, i am desperate to find a pattern for a flat cupcake to make a scarf, and for the life of me i cannot and i have tried to create my own pattern and i am having no luck , i also am looking to re learn the waffle stich to make pot holders and a afgan , thanks for making it easy to understand you and well you are just the best i have ever come across , have a gorgeous day
i just completed practicing this stitch. it is beautiful. i did work out 2 pieces. one with the drop stitch and the other without., and realized i do prefer the one without the drop stitch.
once again, your demonstration was very clear. thanks.
how many chains would i need to make an average adult sized blanket, or some article of clothing, like a poncho or a hat? And how many chains would it take ranging from the age of 2-13? Sorry for all the questions but you have explained everything more clearly and they way you create your art is so interesting, i just have to know how you do it!! Thank you so much for your time, and your videos!
The multiple is 8, which means that it takes 8 chains to for each shell of the pattern stitch. I figure each pattern I make by the multiple. You would do the same if you use this for articles of clothing.
Lots of practice. Stitches being loose or tight are related to tension. This is how you carry the yarn through your opposite hand. You can also adjust stitches by using a smaller hook. It is possible that you may have to large of a hook for the yarn you are using. For instance if you are using a size J hook, with 3-ply yarn, the stitches will look loose and crummy.
i am such a new learner. i see a video like this am am so reminded how far i have to go, but how easy it can be. it's like a lost art.... beautiful. thank you for sharing.
You are welcome. There is such a big interest in this stitch, that I am going to make another version. I am no longer limited to 10 minute video's, which is very helpful to me.
I am just starting and am totally amazed by how FAST this woman is doing this. i need a slow button. crochet is such an art. i am so LOVING LEARNING IT.
I'm sorry, I did mean to go fast. I have slowed done considerably, by request from many people, since making this video. Most of my video's now include segments of slow motion. When I remake this video I will do slow motion. I did not think about the speed that I was crocheting, until people told me. The feedback through comments is very much appreciated. Thank you. :)
could you explain to me how crochet hook sizes work as in i always wondered is it like a size 2mm hook is broader or bigger and it gets smaller as 2.25mm,2.5mm etc until well 15.75?
Hi. I have to say that I have started to crochet using your videos...here on youtube. It's amazing how easy it can be if somebody explains the steps so clear. Soo thank you so much....for everything. Latelly I started to crochet bags......but I have a little problem with "Larger than life bag" I can not make finish the square that they use to make this bag. I will appreciated if you can explain it. I have trying on day to figure it out....but it's just not working. Thank you.......All the best
Thank you. It takes 8 chains for each shell that you want to do. The multiple and details are posted on my crochet blog. A baby blanket is anywhere between 100-150 chains.
wow! one day i hope to be as awesome as you! and thats not an easy thing to say coming from a guy who was reluctant to learn crochet in the first place!
Unfortunately I don't have a slow motion of this video. I have been including a lot of slow motion in video's since I made this one. If you are familiar with crochet symbols, I do have the written instructions and symbol instructions on my crochet blog.
You will be repeating the same rows. Shell, with the chain between, shell, chain, on across. I do have written instructions on my crochet blog. They are actually for the baby afghan that I made but the basic drop shell instructions are there.
Wow teresa your work is fantastic.I thankyou from the bottom of my heart.I have done a few of your projects to date and i must say for all the people wanting to learn to crochet this is the lady to teach you.I am now doing a baby blanket, you make it so very easy to watch and understand.Three weeks ago i couldnt crochet, now i cant wait to start the next project. Many thanks.A massive fan from over the pond in the uk.xxxx
you made it seem so easy right now i am learning to crochet i also can not read patterns but i love to watch video. thank you so much with this video. i am going to make a baby blanket for my baby. i hope i get it done before he or she gets here. What size do i need to make it. Is the 100-125 a good size for a newborn.
Yes, 100-125 is a good place to start for a newborn afghan. The final size is determined by your crochet tension, the hook size and yarn size that you choose in the end.
ok, I'm attempting to make a baby blanket. I'm not going so well. I'm not the best crocheter and I've tried... but can't read patterns. So I've turned to youtube for help. I learn better by seeing so thank you for putting this up. Now the questions. I'm making a baby blanket and would like to know how many stitches to cast on for a good sized blanket. The mother would like a lace look to the blanket... I've been trying but I'm not getting anything good is their a way to make a good lace border?
You could do around 100-125 chains for a nice little baby blanket. There are a lot of edging patterns out there that would make nice borders. I just use the rounded shell for a border or a double crochet on this one.
Thanks for the amazing videos! I'm a beginner, and using this pattern to make a blanket. My question is: when you do the last row of shells, how do you make the edging? Is is just like making a long chain all around the blanket?
You can make connecting chains to each shell or pick up the beginning chain to make them all round and add half shells on the side edges to make them round. I have a drop shell baby afghan that you can look at.
I really enjoy all your videos, I have learned alot from watching them. you said; you made this drop stitch afghan several times. Can you please tell me, the number lenght chain stitch you did in yours for a baby afghan and the size needle you used.
thank you .. this is really great ... i am left handed but found this easy to follow .. thank you .. it's midnigth here now and dont want to sleep .. lol .. God bless you
i was wondering if you could suggest a couple of edgings you would do on this pattern. i'm sure you can't just do anyone cause then it would come out terrible!!lol. i would appreciate it a whole lot. thx=]
What I would suggest is to go to google and do a search for crochet poncho. There are a lot of patterns that are free. A lot of the yarn companies offer free patterns that are really nice.
thanks for ur reply...i am trying to get that on google but my problem is that i get it more easily thru ome videos...so if u can help me in getting that it will be very nice of u...
thank U so much I'm not good in English but I'm so prouding with your crochet's videos. It's so good but I want to learn how can I make the waves in crochet & thank U soooooo much for your videos....
You know what I just noticed? Between 3:15 and 3:30 when you are explaining things, I see that if you did the two rows and a drop stitch row and then another row, you could have a somewhat of a pineapple. Or is it just me?
If it is something you like, you can revise the patterns however you want and call them what you want. The only rules are to have fun and be creative.
Thanks for the video. I retaught myself to crochet by watching your videos. I made a baby blanket with this pattern. ITS BEAUTIFUL and I am so proud of myself. Can you pls show a video on how to do a scallop edge lace . THanks
Some patterns and stitches you can get away without an edging. This is not one of them. I think an edging makes it looked more finished. Use your imagination.
Ok, so can you demo what the very last row of the pattern looks like... as in when you do the first row, you have 7 skipped chains. How can you get the last row of this motif to look the same? Chain 7 and sc in the top of the shell?
It would be recommended to add an edging to this stitch when making an afghan. If you want to chain 7 and SC in the top of each shell stitch you can. Take a look at the baby afghan I made with the drop stitch shell stitch.
I have a video of a drop shell stitch baby afghan that I completed. Most of the other demonstrations are swatches and I am not making a project. I have a blog that is listed on my main page.
It is great the way you explain everything. I am hardly a crochet knitter and I am already doing edgings with this stitch. Thanks a lot from Mexico. You are always welcome here.
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation and demonstration. It is almost like a crochet along. I am amazed at how the pattern turns out in the end. Brilliant!!!
What size hook are you using? Also, would you make your chain a multiple of 7 to size and then add 11?

The smaller head, tiny crochet hooks are for crocheting with thread. The larger aluminum crochet hooks are used with yarn.

The larger the hook the larger the stitch. There does come a point that it is necessary to change hook sizes with the various size yarn.
