  • Love this guy-a rare gift indeed to speak intelligently yet planely. Kaku that is.

  • "already far worse than Chernobyl"

A reactor with leaks in some containment layers and overheated, melting fuel which produces flammable hydrogen gas is categorically not worse than a reactor with all levels of containment ruptured wide open by a massive power excursion and nuclear chain reaction which scatters burning and vaporised fuel over the surrounding area.

Compared to Chernobyl, Fukushima's core was "smouldering" and "fizzing" it wasn't "exploding" and "spewing".

  • "already far worse than Chernobyl" Is not supported by any of the evidence.

It is either a lack of perspective caused by ignorance or an intentional lie. And it is an affront to the survivors of Chernobyl.

Early on it was remotely possible that if the Japanese stopped trying to keep it cool and just left it, something approaching the severity of the Chernobyl contamination could have occurred.

Claiming that had already happened was in error, and not even supported by Kaku's alarmist rant.

  • Personally I think Fukushima performed surprisingly well for a 30 year old plant which should have been de-commissioned already, and had never been designed to cope with the size of tsunami which in fact occurred.

Underestimating the maximum tsunami size (by a lot) is pretty bad, and so is using an antique design long past it's safe lifespan.

What I really can't understand is putting the spent fuel pool upstairs. An upstairs concrete structure doesn't stay watertight in an earthquake.

  • Really though all solid fuel reactors are unreasonably inefficient, though of course only relative to Lithium Fluoride Thorium Reactors (yet to be commercialized) which have a liquid fuel, and are so efficient that they consume almost all of the nuclear fuel in the core, meaning very little nuclear waste. Also, you can add nuclear waste to the core from light water reactors to have it used up almost completely! Also, since the fuel is already liquid, melt downs would NEVER happen.

  • @howlinman801 "Fluoride Thorium Reactors"

I agree. The important thing about liquid fluoride salt reactors is passive safety; if the reactor gets smashed and you just leave it, you don't get runaway nuclear chain reactions or plumes of radionuclides from decay heat and chemical explosions.

No need to send people in with emergency coolant to prevent a full Chernobyl type sudden super-critical nuclear fuel explosion, or a Fukushima type severe containment breach and partial exposed meltdown.

  • Also, I don't mean to poke at people, but it is very clear that people here have no idea what radioactivity is, and what it means when it's said that something is radioactive. Quick lesson: If something has a long half-life, it means it is hardly radioactive at all. It is decaying very slowly and emitting very few beta/alpha particles. If a substance decays very quickly, it means it is VERY radioactive for that brief half life. In other words, 500,000 year half life, no big deal.

  • Everyone here should watch The Thorium Dream. Not all nuclear energy is bad nuclear energy, There are thousands of different ways to go about using nuclear energy. These light water, high-pressure reactors are highly inefficient and take several backup and backups of the backups to ensure that if power is lost to the reactor the core can be cooled. Fukushima was a inadequate design considering the tsunami zone where is was built. Please don't demonize nuclear because of this event.

  • Capitalism is not always bad, however unregulated capitalism always leads to Fascism. Follow the money, uncaring about anyone or anything else. The title is very, very realistic as the Main Stream Media (MSM) will not accurately cover this until its too late to ignore it any longer. pathetic The MSM is too in bed financially with the Nuclear Industry, which is why they refuse to be 100% honest with us. Free markets don't exist, nor will they ever regulate themselves. Awake yet?

  • IF YOU HAVE A CERNOBAL EVENT 7 SCALE YOU ARE VERY LUCKY. YOU JUST HAVE BEEN SO CLOSE TO HAVE A HIPER GIANT ATOMIC DETONATION. A FATALA ERROR INTO THE DESIGN OF ATOMIC LANT JUST SAVE YOU.

  • Why is it that the world is too frieking cheap to power its populations by use of molten salt reactors such as LFTR...

    (search molten salt reactors)

    and the IFR...

    (search integral fast reactor)

  • So where are the super mutants....

    I was expecting super mutants.

  • @ScientificRepublic16 There are super mutants in Japan allready. It is a dog, crossed with a racoon, I think. Reserch this at mutated dogs in Japan. Very interesting stuff, could Godzilla be next, not so far fetched anymore. It's happening, as we speak.

  • Chernobyl was one of Russians poor designs. The Japanese reactor is an old one. Out of date. There have been many re-designs on nuclear reactors since. While they are not 100% safe, as nothing can be with such things, the chances are incredibly slim. For those that are saying that this is just for the rich and there greed. It's a much better way of getting energy because you get such huge amounts from something so little and it's cleaner than fossil fuels. Waste containment is an issue.

  • @hbunnyo No true why did GE went ahead with the building of Fukusjima when in 1972 two GE engineers told GE the design was funtamentally flowed GE replied we spend too much to stop now the 2 GE engineers resigned GE made their Millions n now japan n the world will pay a high price Russian power stations are Not poor unlike what many like to say in the west, also there are alternatives but they will not be impleamented unless our money masters wish

  • @polygamous1 You're talking about 1972. That's out of date. Point is we can do it right but some countries didn't modify their reactors. The Japanese plant was not upgraded.

  • see when we say "under normal circumstances" its ok for a car a pc but we cannot assume that with a nuclear reactor , its like saying that under normal circumstances a bomb won't go off so lets put it in central park

  • It is all over except for the "weeping and gnashing of teeth." The point of no return has long been passed. The fantasy prone and the greedy have worked hand in hand to consign future generations to the misery and suffering of radioactive poisoning. The horror ...the horror.

  • @EartherZero your a happy bunny aint ya lol.... most likely true though

  • @mowgdog That is exactly how grim it is unless some miraculous technological solution is forthcoming, which seems highly unlikely and too late at this point. Its going to be a world of ever increasing cancers, neurological disease, and decreased I.Q.s. All because morons want to boil water in the most dangerous and toxic manner possible to make a buck.

  • @EartherZero If you want a good laugh, danielvincentkelley has all the answers, he claims he can eliminate radiation easily. If you believe that , I have a bridge in brooklin for sale, cheap. Plutonium 239 has a half life of 24,200yrs. It can not be made safe, or eliminated, for 24,200yrs x 10 halflives = radiation forever. FACT

  • We the seven billion of Earth want nothing but Peace, Love and Light on Earth always.

We want the END of ALL WAR on this planet and the end of the NUCLEAR NIGHTMARE.

Official First Contact and the end of the TRUTH EMBARGO will soon be here.

Michael Moore speaks for the compassionate HEART of AMERICA NOW.

Love and protect Earth and her precious Air, Water and Soil by all means.

Help us ban HYDRO FRACKING Worldwide as this poisons Trillions of gallons of fresh water 4 all generations

  • Michio Kaku is among or possibly is the most intelligent and knowledgeable physicists alive, anyone who built a anti-matter "atom smasher" for a HIGH SCHOOL science experiment is somebody that I am going to listen too. Not some shit brained politician or some greedy corporate dick.

  • he's so sexy

  • I AM UNABLE TO WATCH THIS VIDEO PAST THE FIRST FEW SECONDS. Where else can I watch it?

  • man if ppl knew how primitive nuclear power plants are they would let one near 100 miles, in the end its all about how good can u keep cool water coming and hot water going, its eally dumb and the waste that comes from it its amazingly hazardous

  • speaking of globalism:

Daily Show Comedian On Hannity: "Adjustments Have To Be Made For A New World Order"

    /watch?v=MU23PefHDrc

  • @ill318 I can't find that video brother can you send the link?

  • lol nuclear is part of the distraction to stop us going into space, capitalism relys on haveing finite resources and as energy source nuclear is about as finite as it comes 10yrs world suply known, still 2x that of oil 35x that in coal in australia alone.

with the resources of space we wouldnt need to fuck this planet up, and fuck it up more so that all 7 billion of us get same life style which is only fair. nuclear is designed to keep us ocupied while they use up the high yeild fules like oil

  • that CNN guy is a good journalist, asks good questions.

  • Tnx Michio Kaku

  • Some intelligent comments here. Thank you.

  • A meltdown is a win-win situation for the globalist. This is due to that if giant radioactive plumes kills masses, it means population reduction (which they are very much for). It's why they situation has kept dragging, they are purposely letting the reactors at fukushima overheat, go into meltdowns.

  • The "reality" is this is lust for power and blind greed's natural outcome. The people pay the price for the decision of the rich and powerful to make billions building a mega catastrophe waiting to happen ("but not in our lifetime") as they colonize Mars so they don't have to deal with the fallout of their actions. Never mind. Look the other way.....don't want to wreck your day.....

  • @callouschristian I agree. they have the DIABLO reactor in cali iirc on a fault line..1 of 4 i believe..

in ontario the pickering & chalk river reactors have leaked a few times.. the further you look into anything the wilder it all gets..

  • @callouschristian

    You came close. >>

  • when the water hits it turns into steam ...steam rises into clouds and spreads contamination.
