I'd probably go with the 4 Ju-On films over the American remakes (although I think they're all pretty good.) There's just something about the Japanese version that's more subtle and spookier rather than "in your face with loud music"
I've only seen JU-ON: The Grudge. I didn't realize that it was a remake of the original which I really want to see now. It looks creepier. I haven't seen the American re-make but I've been told it was okay
the combined effect of all the techniques had a greater impact in the ju-on series which made it more scary, however the american ones you can quite plainly see used much better graphic effects and the monsters seemed even more scary to watch, though if you was watching the japanese one you'd be more scared as they don't just rely on the visual aspects of the monster to scare you
all thumps up for ju-on!the japanese version was no doubtedly better!in the american version shows a great bit of effort, tech and make-up skill, with no consequence!this video shows that asian really knows how to tell a story!when will these superficial myth-less Americans learn?
Kanna story was freaky but did her mother die as well when Kanna ghost came home and went up the stairs bloody/beaten and jawless?
Didn't really understand Kanna's brother girlfriend part at the school felt like I was missing part of the story.. must be the Katasumi storyline, right?
anyway the ju-on low budget films were creepy quite a story between Saeki family and Toshio teacher.
oh my god the grudge 1 and 2 r sooo not scary neither is ju on:the grudge 1 n 2 i hav seen them so many times it don't scare me but i am soo going seeing the grudge 3 next year
I have to say Ju-On. They were both scary, but Ju-On leaves you scared well after it's over. I always prefer the Japanese and Chinese versions over the American remakes. If I haven't seen the Japanese version when the American version comes out, I'll rent the Japanese version first (or at the same time) because it's scarier.
either one that dead lady freaks me out......i dunno does da japanese version have a different storyline? cause i know a few JAP. horrors that did....
Tough call. I think each did one thing better than the other. I gotta give the stairs to the Grudge, and the same with the jawless scene (tongue in that BAD way, friends), but I think Japanese horror movies, on a whole, outdo their American counterparts because I prefer subtle freaky-as-hell supernatural horror as opposed to the more raucous in-your-face horror of America. Don't get me wrong, I love the Grudge and Ring, but I'd take Ju-On and Ringu over them.
They both seem pretty scary... I dont know which one to rent though I would rather be scared watching it but not afterwards.. so which one is better for that?
The japanese version wins by a landslide. Its what I call real horror.
The japanese horror movies play with our minds, while the american remakes concentrate more on nerves. The acting in japanese versions is subtle and natural. You see the standard loud textbook acting in the hollywood versions which gets old pretty fast.
I like both, They ahve both been brought to screens the same, way, Im not usually a fan of Amercan remakes on japanese films, *cough* the ring *cough* but in the case of Juon Vs the Colombia pictures adaptation I like both, its the same director and Shimizu kept to his style of horror, like Juon: 444444444
It doesnt scare me but it does make the ahir on my arms stand on both versions, but I like the Ju-on origonality, and Sarah Michelle Gellar is fit :P
lol the american version of the bed scene makes it look like the ghost girl (i havent seen the movies so i dont know the name) is going "what are u doing in my bed?"
theyre both awesome. kayako crawling on the stairs is better in the american version though. no jaw lady is awesome on both cuz ju on she has a lot of blood and in the grudge her bloody tounge is all hanging out. and the little kid screaming is better in the american version.
I prefer the 4 Japanese versions. I never understood why they were remade for the American market. The 4 Japanese movies are way more coherent in their story telling and have better character development.
If anyone is interested, Ju-on the book can be bought on Amazon. The book does a good job filling in the blanks of the movie. Especially light is shed into Kayako's past and the motives of her actions.
haha, I LOVE the Ju-On movies, but I wish they wouldn't keep changing the actors. Because in Ju-On, they had the actress who played Kayako had really straight hair, then in Ju-On: The Grudge the actress had wavy hair and looked very different.
I watch Ju-on, Ju-on 2, Ju-on:The Grudge, Ju-on:The Grudge 2, The Grudge, The Grudge 2 while listening to Here Is The House by Depeche Mode. The song really goes with all movies
ju on all the way. i don't give a crap about special effects, ju on is scarier and is more gory. when i saw the girl with no jaw in the grudge i started to laugh
WE made the film a BIT better, though the japanese make it much more frightening than we do. But our specail effects are rather graphic and very gory, which, I think, makes the film more enoyable.

don't know if you have gotten around to watching shutter but if not then let me say that it is brilliant and you really should try to. and I also spook myself on here by searching ghost pics late at night.
i have seen some of the the "the grudge" movies and some of the "ju-on", but, i cant remember anything about the "no jaw"... what actually happened to her/him?
Well, the 'no jaw' thing is from the TVmovie and The Grudge. *SPOILER* in Ju-On there's a girl named Kana who lives in the haunted house and later she and her freind Hisayo gets caught by the ghost at the school ground. When the police founds there bodies the corpes are all torn apart and then they finds a jaw. Later Kana's mom sees her dead daughter's ghost without a jaw.
I liked the original movie the best. I didn't care for the remake, but the special effects in it were cool. However the first one is better because it was more about suspense and less about special effects.
the grudge is also newer, so fuck that. Which one is most scary. Thats what i want to know

i found ju-on to be infinitely times scarier. its not fair because all the pics make it look likt the american version is bteer but its really not,.

ju-on is more original and more japanese like, while the grudge is more dramatic, more american and scarier.that is what i think

i have seen some of the the "the grudge" movies and some of the "ju-on", but, i cant remember anything about the "no jaw"... what actually happened to her/him?
xtnmdline 3 years ago
Well, the 'no jaw' thing is from the TVmovie and The Grudge. *SPOILER* in Ju-On there's a girl named Kana who lives in the haunted house and later she and her freind Hisayo gets caught by the ghost at the school ground. When the police founds there bodies the corpes are all torn apart and then they finds a jaw. Later Kana's mom sees her dead daughter's ghost without a jaw.

I Think Kayako In The Stairs From The Movie The Grudge(2004) Is Frighting Because Her Face Is Covered In Blood & Her Eyes Is Bleeding Red.

I saw the original one and at some points of the movie, I thought the remake was better. But the original one is the better one.
headstrongJJ 3 years ago
The Ju-on movies were a lot scarier and better then the Grudge remakes in my opinion.

ju-on is better

I liked the original movie the best. I didn't care for the remake, but the special effects in it were cool. However the first one is better because it was more about suspense and less about special effects.
