Closest bands with the same "feel" would be Flaming Lips, MGMT, maybe some semi-recent indie stuff like Animal Collective or Dan Deacon (check out his 'snookered' video).

The new stuff has just as much merit as the old. It took me ages to listen to stuff like atomic heels and the new guy doesn't seem as confident on the guitar live as Ben was, but it's still awesome music, and they're still packing a bizarre live show! All of them seem to be in their own little world and it works, beautifully!
