I have a celestron hand held digital microscope that plug into my computers USB port. It uses a white LED illmination. The power is 20X and 400X I don`t think it is powerful enough to see Paramecium. I haven`t tried looking at anything liquid with it under a glass slide. I`m new at the microscope world and want to lean as much as i can for being out of school for 35 yrs..( I would also one day like to lean more about building myself a more powerful microscope ) what is the power on this one?
Right here you can see a magnification of about 500-600x. 400x of your microscope should be just enough to see paramecium.
Do you have slides? You can make some by cutting a glass window into two rectangle slips. That's what I used to do years ago.
Get a little container (5ml will be plenty for example) and fill it with just tap water and add a sprinkle of earth from any plant in your home. Then leave it like this for about 24 hours and then observe.
@ParaglidingManiac thanks for the information.. I will try it out. This will be the first time I looked at something on a glass slide sense 8th grade science class. I have a gamma ray setting on my hand held celestron microscope. I looked at some dry dirt out of my backyard and could see some kind of gamma flashes of light coming from it I`m curious about it ..At full zoom 400X with the gamma ray setting. ( visually the flicker still looked about pin head in size).. very weird to watch.

@clnmyjts,
Don't put too much of earth in it, as you will want to take a drop of WATER using an eyedropper from it ONLY.
