  • I really like your videos, bro. Thanks for sharing the knowledge!

  • I learned this the hard way.. because i thought that the bike was going to be behave like my (stick shift) car.. & @stephenTcartwright a bike clutch has like 12 disks unlike a car which only has 1.. or a race clutch which only has 2.. so I'm guessing that i could take more punishment.

  • Depending on what bike you have: "DONT give is as much throttle as you like and let the clutch out!" =D

  • ya bloody aussie mongrel

  • "I wanna look sexy while i'm doing it."

  • if you can't figure this out by yourself then you shouldn't be on a bike

  • lol Australian dude, I love ya! I live in San Francisco, I think I'll start with a little baby hill, the steepest one I can find will be too steep to walk up!

  • what about parking on a hill??

  • @rEcKLesSzzz read the Motorcycle Operator Manual provided at your local DMV. They explain it really well

  • "HILL START" not push start

  • I just hold the clutch where its engaged enough to hold me in place then throttle and let it out when I want to go.

  • @Duotwk You can do that, but it does wear your clutch out quicker and if you have ever been in traffic in england you'll know its annoying and your hand starts to cramp up holding it stationary for so long.

  • So I'm going to label you as the Aussie M13. I've only watched like 5 videos so far

  • rekon i should take it too the BMX park and use the hills there?

  • I have this bike 08 model 1419th one ever made, we should hang out

  • @ninjaturtledude999 My 08 ninja250 is better =P

  • as soon as the bike started grabbing im like " >:| let it go,the bike has places she needs to go"

  • i really tought this vid was about starting the engine on a hill like when you push a car when it doesnt start then i realized that i was an uphill and not a downhill since that gopro makes thing lokk weird anyway thanks for the info lol

  • I'll tell you how you can start on a hill....you dont even need a break....just make sure your bike is in 1 gear and slowly release the clutch and you will notice how clutch is trying to move you but because of the hill it cant. and you just leave a clutch on that position where it's grabbing but if you release it the bike will die....and when you want to move up the hill just add more gas and slowly release the clutch. I hope you understand.

  • nice gloves

  • Just got my first bike and wondered how to start since i live on an inclined road lol...thanks a lot :D

  • The one problem with motovlogging, you sometimes look insane, lol...

  • seriously????????????? ffs

  • this is not a hill start!!!!!! hill start is when u start your bike from a hill!!! this is how to take off on a hill or how to start moving on a hill etc. and yes if u r retard then it must be hard but honestly, what hard do u find driving on to hill ?

  • when doing my cbt in england we did some hill starts and my cbt instructor sat infront of me whilst we did it to demonstrate but wanted us to do this at the same time which was pretty annoying as hed say to go and he wouldnt move xD

  • a car u dunn have to shift from the brakes to the gas what i do is put ur handbrake on, slowly lift the clutch on press more gas and once it starts to move just release the handbrake

  • At the stop sign you had the right indicator on but you turned left. "Never trust indicators"

  • so its basically like using the handbrake on a car whilst on a incline. :)

  • Great videos

  • i found a mountain and tried this.. it didnt work as i expected it to.....

  • is ur left blink on?

  • LIke wen u get your license there is a test stop on a hill then u need to go forward with out moving back. So this is helps alot.

  • Cheers

  • an yuh and yuh an yuh yuh yuh

  • i have no clutch on my bike it is a hondamatic or cb400a if you like i love my bike

  • THE ONE PERSON WHO DISLIKED THE VID FAILED AT A HILL START AND DECIDED TO KEEP RIDING A CAR

  • @IcePickSnowmanzzzz What do they do, lay on the roof and stick their arm into the window to steer? That's riding, right?

  • @Incurafy it is its called driving we ride am i right

  • BIGGEST HILL I CAN FIND HUH......WILL MT.EVEREST WORK?

  • @IcePickSnowmanzzzz yes yes it will just fit spiked tyres

  • @IcePickSnowmanzzzz Mt. Everest is a mountain, not a hill.

  • @shoefrmperu are you trying to get thumbs? or are you trying to send me crashing down hill with my joke?

  • @IcePickSnowmanzzzz no because mt.everest is a mountain not a hill...

  • @oODANOoSCFCoO so your just trying to crash my joke :( why jokes do not have to be accurate. that's why i used mt everest as an example :) and ppl liked the comment its a funny joke. lighten up play some bf3 and go to the titty bar i know mt everest is not a hill. do not take jokes so seriously block head. *no offense*

  • @IcePickSnowmanzzzz extreme!

  • @IcePickSnowmanzzzz holy fuck that was immature.. wonder how that got thumbed up.

  • @VKGchaos ;) u mad brraaawwwwww

  • thanks blinky, I always remember this vid on every hill start. Cheers man. I've got a CBR250R the 2011. Awesome bike probably better than the ninja hahaha

  • dude kwaskai ninja 250 is best and u and ur bike inspire me a lot.my dad said he will get me this bike once im 17 but now im only 15

  • i love your bike!

  • Comment removed

  • Hey dude, are you using a contour hd??

  • im moped motorcycle rider,,, did i have enough skill to ride ninja 250r????

  • @FiQPCGamer Everyone has enough skill to ride a 250

  • what i like to do is give it more throttle than normal then release the clutch

  • i luv your accent

  • r u in WA?

  • Wont it burn the clutch over time, if u use brake while clutch engages?

  • @ThunderWindz no, cause the clutch is not fully engaged.

  • random, but what would be a good, cheap starter bike for a younger fellow looking to get into motorcycling? (ive been looking for sportbikes, unless thats a bad decision.)

  • @DislexicMidget get a small bike that doesnt have much power and cheap because everyone lays the bike down when they learn

  • its just like hill starting on a car while using the handbrake instead of the brake pedal basically, cool :]

new on motorcycles, my hometown does not have much hills at all so they scare me a bit... before, now I'm cool :P

  • Hi. I just got a new Ninja 250R a couple of days ago. Where I live, there's a lot of inclined streets, so knowing how to hill start is a must. I tried practicing today on a pretty steep hill, I would stop in the middle and then practice how to start. However, I tried to do everything on this vid (Use rear break, give it more throttle as I let go of the clutch) but when I give it throttle the engine would get weaker and I'd end up stalling! Help. =[

  • By the way, the engine would grow weaker while I am giving it even more throttle, and I never stall on flat surfaces, so what is going on (or what am I doing wrong lol) ?

  • Are you riding a Ninja 250R?? Sweet bike!

  • @carpo94 it's a 250r special edition.

he said that in one of his videos.

  • @SignupAdvisor oh thanks

  • Blinky, when im gonna get a brand new 250 R in a coupple, years , i wounder, when i'll break in the engine, like, driving at the city and shit, is like normal clothes that covers my body good egnough? i mean trafic around here is liek limists of 50KM/h, if i would crash at that speed, without leather, would i get suvearly hurt?

  • @ErmaTheKitteh most of the motorcycle riders i see wear helmet/jackets/gloves/boots and just w/e pants they want... but yes i'd imiange coming off a bike at 50km/h sliding against the gravel would hurt like a bitch

  • i have a question i would like someone to answer please...... ive been driving a car for a while now and im getting a bike in a week and i live on quite a steep hill, in a car i would start in second gear to go down the hill now my question is.. do i start in second gear on a bike aswell or is it different on a bike would i start in first like i would anywere else ???

  • it seems it rains in most of your vids.

  • learned this the hard way on a cold morning..took me a few stalls and a shitload of honking behind me haha

  • Yes I wanna take off and look sexy while I'm doing it.

  • Thanks for the tut Blinky. Practised my first few hill starts the other day, was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

  • Great vids man

  • what makes ur bike special edition? the color scheme?

  • Mkay Mkay (Mr.Mackey-Southpark)

  • "and there's a car driving by so i'll pretend like i'm doing stuff so i don't look like a weirdo."

  • 14444th viewer

  • how do you burn a clutch?

  • does all motherbikes have a foot brake???

  • @EchoNatek YES. The foot is for the rear and the right side hand brake is for the front.

  • Thanks! I am considering getting my bike license and first bike and was wondering about hill starts. Hahah you read my mind when you said have to "look sexy".

  • Great videos this was very helpful

  • For my car my dad put me on an almost vertical hill.

  • when i get my first bike, i am going to look like HALO's younger brother with all my gear on.

  • @luisloks It's "Master Chief"

  • Taking my CBT in 2 weeks, kinda nervous but looking forward to it. Seems much easier than car lessons, I remember doing a hill start on a driving lesson and crapping myself, but bikes seems to be a lot more fun, and a lot easier to drive, only thing you gotta watch our for idiot drivers, but I knew about that before booking the CBT :)

  • Haha, you remind me of stewie when you ramble. its cool!! :D

  • Hey blinky, when you started to do these videos, and when you got your first bike, did you watch someone else on youtube or perhaps another video site, to learn these techniques; such as this and gear changing, how to safely ride, etc? Or did you learn it through experience only?

  • well its not hard to star t a car on a hill if you have a damn automatic

  • Thanks for the vid! Im on my Ls atm and i had my biggest challenge of hillstart 2 days ago goin up the mountains. Stalled it once as i wasnt revving it enough goin up so i had no choice but to do a hillstart halfway up! Lol i got out of it ok! I still have alot to learn....

So whats the right gear i should be on whilst goin up a hill or to tackle a mountain?

  • you make everything sounds easy, love this guy, gotta give you some credits for that. thank you very much!!

  • how much is this the ninja250R??

  • I really like your motorcycle videos, I'm just learning and it's so much more fun than driving a car.

  • Random ? but are motorcycl1ng pants necessary? Jeans work r1ght?

  • @ForceRecon198 I think people 'think' jeans work. It's a false sense of security. If you crashed, the road would rip through your jeans like nothing. If you want to wear pants to protect yourself, get some proper bike pants. Leather with kevlar or something etc. I gues jeans would be better than shorts tho. :)

  • @blinkycab Alr1ght, thanks! 1 suppose 1 should go get some... suggest1ons on brand?

  • @blinkycab i wouldn't say that, jeans do work, but obviously don't provide padding in certain spots. I've lowsided with jeans 3 times lol, you get a really small hole from the impact at 30-40 mph and you bleed, not that bad :D

  • @blinkycab i know a lot of people people who have done countless miles in 35 years of riding. Ridden all over the continent. They used to think the leather helped and when they had a lay-down, the leather shredded just the same. It's really no difference. Yes, chaps or leather pants will HELP. BUT nothing is shred proof at all at 75mph when you lay down.

  • @blinkycab It also depends on the quality of jeans, if you wear jeans. IE: Some are much thicker than others. Wrangler for example, are terrible, and tear at the slightest friction...

  • @blinkycab You can get jeans with kevlar in them :D just for bikes ofc, not for awesome bulletproofness....

  • @blinkycab its worse.. or the same..

  • @blinkycab Yeah and some of them in America have steel plating that is lightweight.

  • @ForceRecon198 lets just say, i came off my moped at 15 mph, it ripped through my pants and cut my leg so... also remember, motorcycle pants are tough and have armour in them

  • @Jamie4danielle yeah, 1 suppose 1t probably would be best to get motorcycle pants... 1 value the sk1n qual1ty of my ass a l1ttle to much to tear 1t up crash1ng my b1ke.

  • @ForceRecon198 Why do you use 1s instead of i's? Unless your 'i' key is literally broken, you're retarded for doing so (or you're under the age of 13 and you consider doing it to be cool).

  • @maxtolan You were r1ght w/ the broken "eye" key guess. : )

  • @ForceRecon198 yeah forget jeans man, when I came off the jeans did nothing to protect and they decintagrated....

  • @carbonseals Awesome. Doing it in the nude now... :D

  • How amusing for the people in those houses seeing a dude on a stationary bike waving his hands around and talking to the air.

  • hmm

i wonder if i should get a motorcycle or a car when i turn 16 or whatever it is i can start driving!!! xD

  • hahaha omg i bought the same gloves as you!

  • i didn't know it had a foot brake :O

  • @TheATLAdventure Yup! Yup!

  • i want to like this video but there are 69 likes and i dont want to mess it up

  • Is it just a totally bad idea to use your front brake on a hill start?

Also, what motorcycles do you guys have to give it throttle before the friction zone??? I got a 1200cc H-D Sportster and if I just BARELY roll on the throttle before engaging the friction zone I'm liable to pop a wheelie from the crazy torque!

  • @IrminC actually using the back brake is a bad idea. you want both feet on the ground on higher inclines.

  • Thank you so much!!

there is a small hill after i get out of my neighbor hood at a red light. i stalled my ninja 250r like 3 times on that hill because i was afraid and i couldn't get it right.

this video helped. now i know what to do and i'm gonna practice it on my driveway (my drive way is pretty steep too). i just got my 2009 red ninja 250r last week and have about 50 miles on it now :)

  • i just stretched a chain of my friend's motorcycle because i couldn't start

  • question, say you were on a hill at a stop and wanted to turn right, what would you do?

  • @nevaseez Um, I guess you would do the 'hill start' as performed in this video but steer your motorcycle to the right :)

  • hahaha " There's a car coming by, so i'm gonna start pretending to do stuff to not look like a weirdo." Seriously tho, I enjoy watching your videos

  • u wanna look sexy doing it lol

  • @fallfromgrace25 Of course :)

  • @blinkycab how are u meant to change gears while u have ur right foot on ur brake wouldnt u just fall over?

  • @blinkycab have you hard of the Kevlar jeans if so would you say they are worth it?

  • want a bike, live in switzerland....there are no "non hill climb starts"

still got to see what bike ^_^

  • ........ do a video of clutch start

  • Wheres the hill, I live on a hill and just started biking and it's hard to get the grip of it .

  • lmao! "you can give it more if you like haha you can get it right up there!"

  • @jt3w Thats what she said

  • Blinkycab, just wanted to say thanks for the vids. As a new rider it's good to see someone offering encouragement to people new to bikes. If you're not already an instructor then there's definitely a possible career there (much friendlier than the grumpy old guy who taught me!) Keep 'em coming!

  • lol it always rains in your videos...

  • your neighbors must think your crazy lol, sitting there and talking, making hand gestures etc.

  • Hillstart with a car I just pull the handbrake. Same concept. Good vid.

  • Thanks for covering this topic. I was just thinking about this the other day since I am thinking of riding a bike.

  • 3:25 lol... u got some nice vids up thx 4 shearing

  • it called a clatch start !!!!!!!

    your cool bliky lolloloollololol

  • I remember when I was first learning how to drive a manual car and everybody made a big deal about the hills so I was kind of worried. They would tell me all these weird techniques with the handbrake and such. But it's really no big deal at all. You just have to give it a little more gas and slip the clutch a bit more. But I guess some people tend to panic if they feel their car or bike roll back.

  • "ill pretend im doing something so i dont seem like a weirdo" lmao

  • hey blinky cab, when your going to a make a sttop like a full stop do u use yuhr clutch and then brake..?

  • @goodtubesdaddy Use brakes while leaving the clutch engaged. When you get to low RPM's (idle range), then grab the clutch to prevent engine from stalling. The engine helps with braking and gives you more control. Plus, it allows you to get back on the throttle quicker and easier.

  • I watched this video a few days ago and then I had a dream where i recently bought a Ninja 250 and I did not know how to ride or the bike did not work because I went full throttle and it wouldnt move...it was a freakin nightmare.. :|

  • ninja 250r makes me hott

  • Thank you Blinkycab , i just love your vids lol

"I just want to take off and look sexy while i'm doing it" so hilarious

  • Very nice, I like it :)

  • Great stuff. Your vids are the most informative I have found and also the highest quality. Thank you.

  • thanks for doing this blinky, not sure how many people had ask you to do a video on taking of on a hill but i was one of them. very much appreciated. thank you!

  • Thanks 4 the new vid man glad 2 see ur back

  • i got same bike as yours yesterday and i rode 160 miles on it, its one beautiful bike and feels really comfortable, shes a beauty, nice vid, glad your back

  • yay your back

  • I like your videos. They are nice because i like the fact that u say stuff during them to keep them interesting and i like the 250r (and would like to own next spring.) but if i could make a video suggestion, you have all these videos about how to star the bike, clean it, fuel it and so on, you should make a video about how to ENJOY it. Whats fun to do, paces to go, places not to go, whats exciting, whats boring. things of that nature. just a suggestion

    -Peace

  • Your videos are such an inspiration..l am still saving money to buy a motorcycle..wish me luck

  • wow, you're actually wearing pants

  • Nice explanation, & great aussie accent :)

  • I bet you look insane to people looking out their living room windows haha

  • Hey, thanks for all the cool vids & tuts.

I'm only 16 (living in the Netherlands) so my scooter (Yamaha Aerox) got stolen. And I wanted to buy a Yamaha TZR. I didn't know how to ride manual. Thanks to you I did a test drive. I came to the conclusion that the tzr standard has waaaay to less power :P

Right now I'm building my own Aerox 70cc :)

  • Great video!

  • Ha, my first time, on a demo day ride at a kawasaki dealer...we go out and ive never had to start on a hill b4 but then we stopped at a light with a massive slope....let me tell you my co-ordination was off by a long shot, i actually started to role back, i had the throttle twisted about half way around 6000rpm and let the clutch out..wheelied about 5 seconds through the intersection and go it under control...scary ass situation but everyone after including the last guide was like fucking awsome

  • @stjeepan I did that when i was teaching myself gears down the car park by the sea front, i kept stalling and got really annoyed so i revved up like 7 thousand and just released the clutch fast and popped a huge wheelie by mistake. didnt fall off though :P

  • I remember when I first start to ride I would avoid the big sloaps :P Your right though just find that big hill and go go go :)

  • Haha same, If I knew that I would have to do a hill start at like a stop or junction I would just take another route even if it was twice as long lol

  • 1:20 i just wanna go take off and look sexy while i'm doing it... LMAO

  • lol junglejinglebuisness xD great vid

  • Woo, I don't understand why you don't have 100'000 subscribers and 10'000'000 views cause these videos are just awesome. haha

  • oh hell yerr...

  • gud video plz make more vids i subbed,,, keep it upp

  • I passed my Mod 2 on Thursday, received 1 rider fault for approach speed though. (10 minors count as a fail in the UK)

I'm now free to ride any size bike I want! Woo!
