  • Like a real hero, a real human being...

  • It was a Flock of Seagulls.

  • I really enjoy watching the clip of the boats surrounding the plane. I can just imagine the captains saying "Head to the plane, they need help!" and nobody was unwilling to lend a hand. Great reaction of everybody.

  • @genenco1 What is also impressive is the piloting skills of the ferry boat Captains. Imagine how easy it would have been for a slightly miscalculated maneuver to result in bumping the Airbus, knocking passengers off the wings and into the frigid waters of the Hudson River.

The performances of Cactus 1549's flight crew, Air Traffic Controller Patrick Hardin, the ferryboat captains & crews, the first responders, & the passengers of Cactus 1549, gives "Excellence" a whole new meaning.

  • Cactus1549: Cactus 1539 hit birds, we've lost thrust in both engines, turning back toward LaGuardia

Laguardia: OK, turn left heading 270

    Cactus 1549: Unable

Laguardia: Cactus 1549, why are you unable for heading 270??

Cactus 1549: You didn't say "Simon Says!!"

  • Lucky! if the plane was any bigger i don't think it would've been as smooth.

  • fuckin boss

  • Be trained, + be prepared, = success!!!!!! AWESOME

  • PURDUE PILOT!!! BOILER UP!!!

  • And this is why it's important to properly fund the FAA. Amazing job by ATC and pilot!

  • Any landing you walk away from, or in this case swim, is a good one.

  • I think it is been proved by the FBI that the birds that hit the plane were Muslim......

  • @khaleelattube Good Lord, where did you hear that?? For your information, those geese were NOT Muslim...... they were Canada Geese that had been breathing contrails chemicals which contained "psycho-babeline".

On the other hand, maybe they were Muslim Canada Geese who had been breathing the contrails.....

  • @CounterCultureLives lol you are just as crazy as him!

  • @AirForcedude5 I was aboard this flight, and it's a good thing I was. There were a couple of black men aboard the flight who were having difficulty communicating with the flight attendants.

    Fortunately, I speak "Jive"!!

  • Not only the pilot but also the professionalism of all the people involved, working in a perfectly synchronized harmony that saved all passengers and people on ground too.

  • read his book .. its great

  • man, sully is so awesome, he should have taxiied the plane up a boat ramp out of the river :P

  • That air traffic controller is the man!!!!!!!

  • @Viking1925 wow he really is. Kudos to him he did a great job!

  • @Viking1925 He really is - he did an excellent job under pressure!

  • Forever a hero!

  • Those aren't cockpit tapes, those are airtraffic control tapes.

  • I made a video from inside a 737 taking off from LaGuardia on my page

  • anyone know how deep the water was where it landed?

  • nice

  • Did the wing exit slides/rafts deploy ???

  • They all did a great job. Very good to know that there are fabulous people working in the towers and cockpits.

  • Tower's? you gotta be kidding me? How many times did the pilot have to friggin tell the Tower he was going in the Hudson?

  • i know really

  • Comment removed

  • @Johi2410 he is really good

  • Did I hear right? Did I hear somone say "idiot" to somone on the radio at 2:07. It sounded like that but I couldn't make out what was said by that voice right after that. And Awesome job by the crew of the Plain and tower.

  • Sully, you rock.

  • Everyone did a good job!

  • I think both Capt and controller are both outstanding. Google air traffic controller and see what it takes to qualify. Seriously high stress job. Split second decisions, Kudos to both Capt Sully and the ATC!

  • airnautic, I agree with you. That controller is one sharp dude. To be able to think about - and act on - that many things at once, in a surprise situation? Amazing. Not to steal Captain Sully's thunder, but here's the unsung hero. We don't even know his name. He may not be on Oprah any time soon (she'd only claim to have been there herself, then cry, anyway), but as long as his friends and family appreciate his ability, he shouldn't need the tabloid attention.

  • The captain did an impressive job, the controller even better! I had my own emergencies in flying, but the PIC and crew can focus on.The controller managed the flight path, called up two airports for emergency, passed on instant information of availiable runways, juggeled the remainig flights on his frequency and called the rescue before the Cactus was really down to the right place of impact! He shall be mentioned at the same time as the Captain and receive the same honours!

    Wolfgang

  • I agree, i have read that the controller's name is Patrick Harten.

  • note the beeping sounds when he said we're landing in the hudson

  • The captain is cool and all....he did a good job....but he's still no Han Solo....

  • "We're gonna be in the Hudson." - Epic quote similar to "Houston we have a problem."

  • Greatest comment by the news hostess - lucky they weren`t over the atlantic.... LOL - like you would hit birds flying thirty thousand feet or more above ground!!!

  • exactly! bird strikes on jets happen only on take-off and landing because cruising altitude is bird-free. so if a bird-strike was to happen, it's not going to be too far off land.

  • Great video
