  • we have these shops in Vietnam~ but it's like a 2 dollars shop~ everything worth 2 dollars~ :))

  • @BloxPhantome Video please.

  • Jack, JACK! Noooo ;( :D

  • @VictoriaNova :-)

  • love the video but what's with the music? :o

  • what song is this called?

  • @animelover3321 Please see the credits at the end.

  • @animelover3321 it's called "overplayed garbage" it's by some French Canadian chick that looks like a horse. I believe that her name is Celine Dion. If you type her name in youtube you will find it becuase its pretty much her only popular song.

  • @thewhistler

From her wikipedia article " the best-selling female artist of all time"

  • @timtak1 wikipedia is not very credible. #1 is Madona. 1. Madona 257,000,000 Records Sold 2. Mariah Carey 232,000,000 Records Sold 3.Whitney Houston 220,000,000 Records Sold 4.Nana Mouskouri 206,000,000 Records Sold 5.Diana Ross 189,000,000 Records Sold 6.Donna Summer 178,000,000 Records Sold then 7. Celine Dion 175,000,000 Records Sold But I admit she is good, just she was very overplayed when Titanic came out. So much that I had to buy a CD player for my car to replace the factory radio.
  • Oh thank god they have these over there! I was like : Honey, we're gonna suffer in Japan without dollar stores - my teaching salary isn't going to be enough for 4 people......

  • omg - no, no! what's wrong with you!? why would you choose that song?

maybe the things you showed could be neat (provided you've never been to the dollar store before) but My Heart Will Go On makes it just unbearable! D:

this is a sadistic endurance test on my patience!

  • Great vid, timtak. I love shopping our dollar stores here in the States. Always saves me and my family loads of money. And by the way, people, for criminy's sake, lose the attitude about the background music (which is actually very nice, I might add) and just enjoy the video for what it is. Jeez-Louise, some people really do have "tin ears", eh?

  • I know this video is old now but still the music is just awful. But interesting video.

  • Moving to Japan in 3 weeks for my exchange year at Uni - very interesting video!.. Once I stopped laughing at the music :')

  • lol 100 yen is 0,90euro thats cheaaap O:

  • sheesh...stop commenting about the music!!

  • Why's up with the music? It's kind of distracting :-/

  • @ILUVFFANDKH

My use of this music was based on the hymn being used in the liquor store at the end of the "Man Who Fell to Earth." (1:20 into watch?v=qHxCXU1s9IY).

  • @timtak1 hmmm, i don't know, it doesn't match the video in all, but that's ok, it's your video :)

  • @timtak1 did you change it? cause it sounds like "My heart will go on" from Titanic

  • @timtak1 Umm the song being played in that movie was a Christmas song. Not getting how it relates to this song. Sorry I really hate this song and it almost made me stop watching the video. LOL. But I'll give your videos one more chance before judging. :-)

  • i would say it's equivalent to 99cents stores in US lol

  • wtf titanic

  • & it's a Rosary! :D

  • Don't people look at you strangely when you are using a mic in a store? haha.

  • This song is VERY weird to put with this video, hahahahah.

  • We have these Daiso here in the US, two in Seattle, in fact. Love, love, love them!

  • Thank you for those video.

I'm glad to meet your videos because now I'm studying English for TOEIC.

And I'm interested in review of JAPAN foreigner feel. Thank you.

  • @10pEnc1lsWeaters and AudreyPurtov maybe he used this song because it's shopping music, its like elevator music!

  • It's idiot soundtrack for this video, btw...

  • @AndreyPurtov

Aww. I like it and chose it specially for this video.

  • Unbelieveable assortiment of stuff ! My jaw is on a floor....

  • HI TIM ENJOYED UR VID ON JAPAN WHATS IT LIKE THIER =) ????

Mom: "Uhh thanks but whats so special about a really small towel?"

Me: "It was only 100 Yen! Just like all the other stuff i bought!" *brings in huge box*

    O.o hahaha

  • damn you for reall!!!?!?!!? damn i would so go get my stuff there as well ahah good stuff too!! damn i wish i was there now...

  • Most helpful video of 100yen shops,

    Thank you

  • @AmaiEmikoChan

    My pleasure.

    どういたしまして。

  • Uuuuurrrmmmhh....I'm really not into girls or women, so I'm not even going to try! Friendship on the other hand would be awesome. And the men....well I like my man to be a dude...not effeminate, but a real man ( what's the point of being gay if you want a girly-man?? LOL). As you speak, I am running to my travel agency......hope to see you soon!!!

  • @gyqz Some homoexuals are the *girl* in the relationship?

  • @FloppyEmperor They are not the girl....they're just girlish/effeminate. :-)

  • @tmack1337

    I want to go!

  • Well I only use my towel once too... and i'm from europe...

  • @Chibua

Perhaps it is only me. Or perhaps only us dirty British people that use their towels more than once? It seems to me that bath towels are very big and would require a lot of washing and washing machine space if one were to wash them every day. I guess that affluent people, with big washing machines, wash their bath towels every day.

But anyway, I also guess that the prevalence of tiny towels in Japan is because they want to use only clean towels and are prepared to sacrifice warmth.

  • The most kawaii face with the most wrong music....awwwwwwww

  • @gyqz

Love is a 100 yen bath towel.

The bath towels are lonely, the purchasers are lonely, together they make love.

  • @timtak1 I wasn't talking about the towels....But if love is a towel, I'm off to get me a few. LOL

  • @gyqz

Buy! You shall go to the ball. Just Breathe.

    watch?v=Hcj9fyx6DXI

  • @timtak1 Yup, I'm off to the ball.......but where the hell is my faghag??? LOL

  • @gyqz

In Japan! One of my 2 theories is that, you know how Simone DeBeauvoir claims that in the West the model of the human is "man" and that women are the "Second Sex". Well, in Japan I think that the situation is reversed, and everyone, almost, admires their mother more than their father, and the culture tends towards the matriachal. Hence many J. men are tending towards the middle, and women are ultra-feminine. Hence Western "fags" are just guys, and sexy to J-women. Come to Japan.

  • @timtak1 There's nothing in it for me, if I am sexy to J-women!! hahaha. I do think that ultra feminine women are very estethic to look at. But if gay = just guy in Japan....I'm coming over as soon as possible. But I have to excuse myself in advance for being a dutch baka gaijin. ^x^

  • @gyqz I can not explain what might be in it for you in polite company but, I beg to suggest that you do not know until you have tried. And then there are the men too. Run do not walk to your travel agent. But don't stay long. There is no coming back.

  • omg gaytanic..

  • @theboss6006

Love, or romantic love, is kind of gay, perhaps?

'Real men' realise(?) that women are their biatch - a woman is a person that one needs when one has a full packet, or wants a meal(!), or a baby. A woman is a real-man's means to an concrete end.

But Plato (an abstaining gay) said that love is between souls that aim for the same star, a meeting of hearts, that (as Celine says) "go on."

Love and the soul are gay! Real men don't eat quiche or believe in L.

    Love is gay?

  • lol, Best music ever!! <3 <3 <3

  • i wanna go to a japanese dollar store and find hello kitty and random crap thats japanese only :D

  • @hkfan1980

Please come to Japan. There are 100 yen shops everywhere.

  • I WANT IT ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL....

  • maybe not at a $1 store, but i know many places in the usa u can buy buddhist prayer beads (malas)

  • the worst music ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @hazercopejeks

Perhaps that is a kind of compliment. Thank you.

  • Thanks for this. Thanks for taking us through the shop and showing the products. Bought back loads of memories of when i visited tokyo years back. I loved the 100 yen shops! U can get some amazing stuff there. Can't wait to visit again one day:)

  • @fkhan44

Please come to this area too. It is a bit of a long way from Tokyo, but it is different.

(This video produced in part to promote the Yamaguchi region!)

  • is there sales tax in Japan?!

    :D

  • @bboybiogrind

Yes. So the items are 105 yen.

  • Thanks very much :]

  • @bboybiogrind

But by the way, three months later, the main political parties are thinking of doubling the sales tax to 10% due to the massive fiscal deficit.

  • アルカリ乾電池 4個 105yen を 一番 よく 買います 携帯電話 充電するため

  • @dorodolo

  • were r the erasers

  • @lzRedsox08

They sell lots of erasers. If I get the chance I could video them.

  • @timtak1

Have you videoed the erasers? If not, I will try and remember to video the erasers.

  • hahahahaha titanic

  • the bowls are nice and the chopsticks are pretty!

  • I wish I could go there, the ones in America are not as interesting.

  • Thank you dotsona07. I am glad you are enjoying my videos:-)

I had a look at the racing simulation software videos on your page. The GT video was amazing - almost like reality.

Also, BTW, I drive a Subaru WRX! But, of course, not nearly as fast. The car and I are old. :-)

  • I wish I had a WRX :D, In real life I have a Honda Civic 08, I really love Honda reliability, the Japanese know how to build quality cars :D

  • I bet things are even cheaper in China.

Kind of different, to Japan, though.

    Good luck!

  • I'd love to go to one of these stores

  • Hit a plane!

  • GOD! Man dude no Celine Dion!! ABsolutely no CELINE DION!! ITs a 100 yen store! not the fucking titanic!!! Do you see Leo Decaprio in the store!? DO you fucking see Kate Winslet NUDE!?

GAH NO!!! No celine dion .. EVER!!

    XD lol..

  • I have tried loads of times to respond to your comment but Youtube does not like what I have to say.

I can only say that I think that the music is appropriate.

  • lol i know i was just joking around :D

  • omg I just about died laughing when the Titanic song came on, I knew it instantly. And I agree, it is quite fitting. ;)

  • Thank you!

    I am not sure why...

Partly, I get the feeling that the objects are lonely, asking to be bought and by buying them we feel we are loving them. Partly, the act of purchasing them is like a present to the purchaser, who feels loved even though the presents are self-presented. Partly, again we purchase them as presents, though we may not end up giving them to anyone. Or maybe because, for whatever reason, purchasing, like chocolate, is a love substitute.

  • Catholics use Rosaries =)

  • Yes, that's it. Catholics use rosaries and Buddhists use something that looks rather similar ("juzu) for a similar purpose.

  • Did you lose your mind when picking the music. This music is not appropriate at all for a dollar store tour.

  • I disagree. I think that dollar stores are rather romantic.

Hmm...How about the Christmas shopping scene towards the end of "The Man who Fell to Earth." Somehow that scene, or even the experience of Christmas shopping, combined love and consumerism.

Some types of love and consumerism are linked, I think.

  • @10pEnc1lsWeaters

Think of the Lacanian "object a". Or f*** that, think of our need for love, money, status, things. Is the longing different in each case? For my money, the lonliness of the human heart, and its ways of seeking satisfaction are all part of the same train. Chocolate, promotion, a girl, a boy, or a towel. We are all hoping that we kind find something that will make us complete.

I am reminded of a scene towards the end of "The Man Who Fell to Earth" (Starring David Bowie).

  • heres my advice about staying in japan, never see japanese porn! the women there have a really hairy bush if you know what i mean and its hella nasty. they probably got crabs

  • I am unaware of this difference. It seems to me that in fact, caucasians are more hirsuit, not that I mind.

  • wow so I guess translating yen to dollar is easy? I bought yugioh japanese packs yrs ago they where 300yen a pack so I guess close to $4? I do like to learn to translate

  • I usually use 1 dollar = 100 yen. Today it is 99.14 yen apparently but it has fluctuated around the 100 yen mark for quite a while. 110 or more yen to the dollar has often been more accurate but it is more difficult to make the calculation. Those yugioh packs were probably only $2.50 :-)

  • wow i so wish i can go to japan some day

  • And you shall. But may Western ladies find Japan an unfriendly place.

  • why i wonder? will you tell me?

  • I think that Japanese society puts a lot of expectations upon Japanese women.

Please may I recommend that you ask at the Japanese Times forums, or one of the flickr Japane related groups forums, or Japanguide dot coms forums.

  • ok and thank you!

  • Entertaining vid. I love the dollar stores in The U.S., especially the Mexican ones. The things they sell are so over the top sometimes! The rest of my family feel too embarassed to dare enter places like that but I can stay for hours!

  • Me too. Or both. I mean, I am embarassed, but I stay for hours!

  • Jaja, love the sardonic attitude. Made the video - kudos sir.

  • Thanks, I am glad to hear someone appreciates my sardonic attitude.

    I should make more.

  • My cousin went to Japan, she bought me a hair clip. Happy gloatting it cost her 100 yen. It's a nice hair clip, but since my hair is now short, I just have it on my dresser. LOL.

  • The closest store here in atlanta is the dollar tree, but the stuff isn't nearly the quality that these things are at! *o*

  • やすかさん。。?妻の名前ですね。。?シャツ面白いでした。ハンバーガが大好き。

  • i really want some japanese candy.

can you get some for me?

    and somehow ill pay you?

ive wanted japanese candy for a LONG TIME

  • japans the best, everything is so cheap! Im sure i'd buy a few of those bowls and maybe Fraser would buy one of those special brushes. remember seeing him looking at one in a museum show just it was too expensive... and i like the idea of washing your towel just I would never be bothered to do it everytime...

  • bowls? I would be more than happy to get bowls and brushes. Which bowls? Red, black and what colour pattern and how many?

  • what do you meen by "I would be more than happy to get bowls"?

  • You said that you would buy bowls, and I said I would buy them for you and send them, if you tell me which ones.

  • You don't have to buy me any if it would be any hassle, I don't want you to spend too much money on the shipping costs as well. But if you realy want to buy me something I think me and my mum would like some of the plain black or red bowls and some fancy blue or black chopsticks to eat our udon noodles with just to make it more authentic or something. And I've just asked Fraser if he would like a brush and he said yes.

  • No hassle.

It is Gordon's birthday. Any idea about what he might want?

  • Did the 100 yen stuff arrive? I should have by now.

  • no. not yet... ill tell you as soon as they do arrive though.

  • gotta appreciate the 100 en shops. the ones in America are terrible in comparison. these i actually get useful stuff, albeit cheep useful stuff, but still a wonderful thing.
