When I make Kow Poon i just crush up the dry thai peppers a few and put it in with the curry when I fry it that makes it spicy and also I use shrimp paste to add flavor
your welcome unspokensinz. and i dont hate hmong people k.i was just fucckin around.bside all my friend all hmong. but just keep it real wit ur food source .dont b claiming wht is your.y is not right.thas all i have to say .bye /keep on wut u doing . and ur hot too i saw ur picture.bye.
I honestly don't care where this originate. I am fine as long as it is tasty. End of story. Thanks for the recipe. I use paprika to make the curry more red and it makes it more pungent in taste and aroma.
@unspokensinz I just had some today. Tried out your recipe because I tend to like to make it different every time. Meatball with it taste really good if you are a fan lol they tend to disappear first every time we make kapoon with meatballs.
sorry unspokensinz.I make a mistake.u mention this was Lao food.and I thank u for being real.some people doest do that.that's wut I hate.they r bran washer.but u real ass Hmong.
Awesome video. :) looks really great and yummy. And I was just about to make some in a bit but super super spicy. :) this is definitely one very good asian soup dish. :)
okay i'm going to have to say this it's not authentic. Straight up lao kao poun you take a mortar chop some lemongrass, garlic, pepper, shallots, add shrimp paste. In the pot your suppose to boil your chicken with kaffir lime leaves and galangal.
@hellokitty01ify I love how ignorant people like you who think they're so smart do NOT read info box. I never said my food was authentic. Thanks for watching and commenting.
A good tip....when cooking the oil and garlic, add red curry AND yellow curry. Then add your meat, Galanga, mix together for a while (the curry needs to cook thoroughly to avoid bitterness) then add coconut milk. Personally, I like only one can. After the bamboo, curry, oil, garlic, galanga, lime leaves, (quail eggs yum) marinates for a few minutes, then add one can of coconut milk. Then add the broth from the cooked chicken...Trust me, I'm a guy and all the relatives think my kapoon is bomb!
@phae83mora you can, but I don't suggest it. It's a bit thick and more sweetened. On the outside of the label should say "for cooking" Aroy-D has the best ones
So I saw this video and made it earlier. It was my first time making kapoon and it went well.I am so proud of myself and I thank you for uploading this video. Some other stuff I added was those little black mushrooms and baby corn. Yum. Next time I will try the quail egg.
@jennyhmongthao I'm glad you liked it and tried it! Now you can say you can make kapoon :) My grandma makes it with baby corn and mushrooms too, but no noodles it's called "Kieng" similar to kapoon.
THANK YOU so much for posting this video with great instructions. I moved a thousand plus miles away from my mom to be with my white husband and I've been craving this for the longest time. Thank you.
@jessechao4 lol, YW and yea I don't like the texture of quail eggs its weird. I think it's a bit weird with the sriracha sauce. Does that make it spicier?
Excellent video. Thank you for sharing. Loved the music. I've never had khao poon this way before. I wonder if our recipes vary because of the region we grew up in or that our parents grew up in. I know from experience that Lao recipes are passed down from parents to children. I grew up making khao poon with ground pork, a lot of lemon grass, galangal, kaffir lime leaf, etc. And it is garnished with cabbage, cilantro, bean sprouts, shredded carrots, and mint. Sometimes banana blossom.
I've been craving this since the day I knew I was pregnant :/ not having my mother around, I have nobody else and for someone who can't cook like me too. GOSH! But THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO, I can now do it myself :) I appreciated.
@unspokensinz Oh thank goodness for the clarification. I just feel so much better that when I try to make kao poon the first time, I'll be sure to remember to use the chicken broth. Thanks you guys!!!
sa baii jai day... both food and song are comforting. damn how much i miss my mom she always cook for me. i can never go hungry mom around. love to eat lab or goy too :-P <--- born in Laos but grow up in the US.
I love Kow Poon! This is gonna sound weird but when I make mine, I don't use curry paste at all, but rather reducing coconut milk to half, then adding lots of chili oil and add to broth. I've seen your way done many times but I'm wondering if its the main method in Hmong households? Thanks for sharing! I'm Thai Isan.
@MNTsunami I would assume so. This is how my mom makes it and I don't know how to make it any other way. I will have to try your way next time. Is that the way Thai Isan's make it?
@MNTsunami I've seen Laotian and Khmer make it like this. I thought Thai's make it like this too. I think kaphoon has to include the curry part or else it's just noodles, not kaphoon. The video was great. Thanks!
omg. I seriously ate a whole pot of khao poon when I made mines. Since my hubbie and kids don't like khao poon. I was craving as heck as I am pregnant too. I think I gain extra weight because of eating soo much. I love khao poon. won't mind making it again! This was a good video! I love your videos. so detailed. I still need to go out and buy those ingredients to make those crab wontons!!

@LMFAOAlexander143 the reason hmong ppl make it so much is because theyre also from laos/thai land. we dont claim it as ours we just make it : D
