  • What is the game at :33? The one where you shoot the balls at each other?

  • @fsposse I believe the one you're talking about is Hyperball. You can do a Google search to find out more. (I'd post a link here but YouTube doesn't allow posting of links.)

  • It is to bad Williams closed the Pinball division the Williams pinball is and still is my favorite pinball makers.

And I want to start up my own pinball manufacturing company is a dream right now but I love to design things and will start doing so in a virtual pinball program that i have and use that to test things out and then make the machine in the real world. :)

  • I'm really sad that bally/williams went down under. Pinball just isn't what it used to be. Yes there's Stern and don't get me wrong games like lord of the rings is amazing it's just that they got no compitition from anyone so they can do things at their own pace because there's no other company that is pussing them to keep up. Also arcades aren't what they used to be :(

  • I'd love to see a re-invention of Pinball much like the way Hollywood re-invent some films into their modern day counter part.

Problems that need to be overcome:

    Eliminate coins.

    Scores must to connect globally.

    Reduce materials cost. Maintain quality.

    (Please, anyone elaborate)

I mean we all still go to the cinema even though we can watch films from home much faster and privately.

  • Jesus, what the hell was that pinball game with the elephant in it at 0:35? I have never seen that before.

  • It's called Bally's Pinball Circus; it was designed in the mid-'90s, but only two were made. There is extensive footage of it on the TILT Extras Disc; you can also see one in person if you visit the Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas.

  • Great. Thanks for the info.

  • The Who - Pinball Wizard . . why the HECK did they not pick that song for the trailer?

  • ...because it would have cost many, many thousands of dollars to license?

  • Cost was certainly a factor (I didn't pursue it, but license fees would have likely been in the tens of thousands of dollars.) But also, after you go to a few pinball shows and you've heard Pinball Wizard dozens of times, you really don't want to hear it anymore.

So: cost, combined with lack of desire, kept me from using Pinball Wizard.

Whether the music works in the trailer is open to debate; most people like the use of this music in the film, however.

  • There's a song called Pinball Wizard or something like that. It's a classic rock song. They should have used that one.

  • 5 stars anyway , for the subject matter in the movie :)

  • The background music is AWFUL ! ! Great subject, but are they trying to drive people away with that horrible background music? I'll buy this DVD for sure when it's available though. The preview for The King Of Kong was 100 times better. Baba O'Reilly "Teenage Wasteland" rocked. Whatever flower fluffy song they used for this trailer is horrid.

  • I played pinball games and arcade games (in the arcade) all through the 90's. And I remember how fewer and fewer pinball games were appearing in arcades, and more and more they were removed to be replaced by a game where you shoot things. Ridiculous! I applaud the attempt to cater to younger generations with this new concept, because clearly the older concept wasn't working.

  • Just watching the trailer, anyone can see that the original concept of pinball games was failing. Where were they going? To a game where you put money in, hit a button, and nothing else. No skill, no excitement. Crap. When I turned 21 and went to a casino, I shuddered. This is where the pinball and arcade talent is going towards?

  • To sum things up, Gary Stern is fighting the true battle to save pinball. As for those pinball 2000 misfits, most of them are designing machines for him! Gary knows what a real pinball machine is and keeps all of those guys on a short leash. He knows if he just lets them run wild with ideas like Williams did, his company will share the same fate. Thank Gary Stern for keeping pinball alive.

  • I liked it when it came out. No, it wasent like a regular pinball but it was a change of pace. I think the investors had already made up their mind that they saw more potential elsewhere so they were going to shut pinball down anyway. Anyway, im going to order this when it comes out.

  • I came across the Revenge from Mars game a few years ago and gave it a try. I wanted to play pinball, but was annoyed by the video images. It was like a couple of machines by Bally in the early eighties, BABY PAC-MAN and GRANNY AND THE GATORS. Those games were like Revenge from Mars. Not much of a pinball game thrown together with not much of a video game. The novelty of it wears off quickly after a few plays.

  • The two Pinball 2000 machines sold 7,000 and 5,000 machines respectively, placing Star Wars: Episode I in the top half of WMS performers in the '90s and Revenge From Mars in the top third. Each individually sold more units than Medieval Madness, more than Attack From Mars, more than Monster Bash.

So I'm not sure who, exactly, would consider themselves slapped in the face when you look at their financial performance.

  • I remember that awful day about eight years ago when i went back to the Williams web site to see what was new and came across PINBALL 2000. Williams was telling me i was wrong, what i liked was no longer good. I hated Williams. I thought to myself, "They will pay for this! Williams and Pinball 2000 will not see the year 2000!". I was right because i knew there were many others like myself who were also slapped in the face by Williams.

  • I hated the Pinball 2000 design the minute I saw it, and I still do. It would be better to go back to basics, a bit like what Capcom tried, but better. The pinball machines have become too advanced with too many features. Still, Stern knows how to do it, but they make some strange games too. Family Guy? In Europe we don't even know what that is. POTC was a lot better. Too bad Stern has no competition

  • Watch the film...I think you'll be surprised at the thoughtful design that went into Pinball 2000.

  • Pinball 2000 was garbage! If Williams didn't throw the money away at entertaining this nonsense, they would have given the REAL pinball machines more time and would still be making them today! All of those morons sitting there impressed with themselves are the ones responsible for destroying Williams pinball! Cheap gimicks can never top thoughtful design! AAARRRGH!!!

  • I totally agree Jewbee. I was a pinball convert around about the time the Addams family came out. I then got to love the older pins, and couldn't wait for the next pin to come out. Then Pinball 2000 came out. I live down under, and I had heard the failures of 'New Coke' in the 80's - and this felt just like that. The company telling us that this was the future of your favourite product.

  • As the film shows, it was a different situation from "New Coke." Before embarking on Pinball 2000, Williams had already made the decision to kill pinball. They weren't going to let them make any more. This was an effort to create something new that would be a success in the market.
