There are more spectacular dunks, but the reason this is the greatest dunk in my lifetime is not just the dunk itself. It came in the final minute of a close playoff game to cement the win. Most all the other highlight dunks you'll see are in meaningless games at nonpivotal points. We were absolutely screaming when he threw this down.

You're right. I think the "legendary" status of this dunk grew over time because:
1. It was part of a great playoff series.
2. It resulted in a great photo and poster in which it appears Starks in dunking over Jordan. (He's not really - Jordan was the help arriving too late).
3. Knick fans didn't have too much other postseason stuff to cheer about.
4. It was seen as a challenge to Jordan and of course he responded - the Bulls took the series.

You're right. I think the "legendary" status of this dunk grew over time because:
1. It was part of a great playoff series.
2. It resulted in a great photo and poster in which it appears Starks in dunking over Jordan. (He's not really - Jordan was the help arriving too late).
3. Knick fans didn't have too much other postseason stuff to cheer about.
4. It was seen as a challenge to Jordan and of course he responded - the Bulls took the series.

I agree with bluuredlife07. While it was a nice dunk, it was not on Jordan, or even Grant for that matter. Pause the vid at :14 and :15. You'll see Jordan behind Grant., and Grant to the left of Starks. Last I checked a dunk on someone involved the defender being in front. Hence the term "facial". Again, great dunk. Just don't say it's on somebody because they are in the picture.

But, how many points would he have averaged if not for the fact that you can't breathe too hard on him without being called for a foul, sending him to the line?
