Peter Cushing should have been as great as Olivier. Infact Laurence Olivier said he was one the greatest actors of his generation. He appeared in Olivier's Hamlet. Why did he go on to waste his career in a string of hammy hammer horror films?
1) When you're a working actor, you want to stay in work. Just look at all the rubbish films Donald Pleasance did!
2) There were some compensations to appearing in the Hammer films: appearing opposite his friend Christopher Lee. If you're going to get along with the rest of the cast, then that's always going to make the experience a little better.
The Party intercom got me too! I knew it was coming, but it still completely tore up the tranquility and sent shivers down my spine. Freaky how the door swings open to reveal the screen too! Spooky stuff.
when i was reading the book i was lying down on my couch and when I read the third you are the dead a shock just went through my body I just scared man that is powerfull writing
I didn't think they would be allowed to show any serious violence on 1954 television, but they do a decent job with mere implication and off-screen beatings. And I shall never watch Steptoe and Son in quite the same way again...
The "Party" is DO! DO! Piss on the "Party" DOWN WITH BIG BUTTHEAD BROTHER! BIG BROTHER IS LOWER THAN MY DOGS POO! Common "Big Brother" MAKE MY DAY!

that every person will betray even the most beloved when confronted with its utter nightmare, is not so disturbing.
disturbing is how the system wants to see people doing so!

Two reasons, I think:
1) When you're a working actor, you want to stay in work. Just look at all the rubbish films Donald Pleasance did!
2) There were some compensations to appearing in the Hammer films: appearing opposite his friend Christopher Lee. If you're going to get along with the rest of the cast, then that's always going to make the experience a little better.
