  • awat babe bhind teh community togmether dont it bomb pa na nein

  • 1984-2011 current

  • This episode was from 7th November 1991!

  • this is the best theme, bring it back !! xD

  • Dot doesn't actually age does she?

  • This IS actually from 1991 - Lionkingonstage is right :)

  • This is the 1991-1993 opening credits because the theme was remastered in 1991 to sound like this. If you dont believe me check out the original and compare it to this one!!

  • this theme was remastard in 1991 or 1992 and this sound like the one

  • it looks weird without the O2 there... and why is the water so blue!?...

and why is Dot wrinkle free?

  • @Chrisopia And Phil has hair...

  • reminds me of winter

  • Dot sounded a bit like zippy there

  • This version of the tune would be perfect for christmas nowadays

  • why is most of london black?

  • @jammyjack100 clouds

  • I like this theme in 1985 better than the one now.

  • no it wasint bitch

  • It was better in 1985 than now in 2009

  • The music from this one is my favourite, my favourite visuals is the 2009 one :D

  • I believe this is the more upbeat version of the theme tune with a more brighter blue version of the Thames, used from 1991. The 1985 version can be seen on the EastEnders channel.

  • Miss this from back in the day=(

  • best theme eastenders ever had.

  • what? thats the thames river???? what one street do you mean?

  • Comment removed

  • Well, it shows the east end of london (from where the soap gets it's name from).

Also you see a square + park + a few other streets coming off it. I think you're getting it confused with Coronation Street.

  • ITS THE EASTEND - HENCE - EASTENDERS! lol

  • i can play tht on the drums :D

  • Lol at Phil!

  • were did u get this from?

  • Dot hasnt changed a bit!! XD

  • luv the water so much!

  • Every time i listen to this song it makes me proud to be a londoner and mostly an east ender

  • i may live in central scotland, but london is a LEGEND!!!

  • you're right... whenever i've been away from london, when i come back i listen to the eastenders theme and it really makes you feel back in london

  • i didnt think it was model, i thought it was photos joined together, hence all teh black smke etc, taken on bonfire night (tho that bit might not be true) the reason the river is blue, and the bit around it is lighter is to disguise the joins in the photos!

  • The first map was made up of 800 photos stuck together, the river is so blue because of the camera quality and the black smoke is actually from the docklands where there was a lot of factory's and chimneys that polluted the London air.

  • i knew it wasn't a model lol not sure how camera quality affected the river colour tho- the map is black and white so the river would also be black and white on the original photos- they picked the river out in blue so that it showed up, hid the joins in the pics (and obviously blue is the naturul colur to do the river lol). I imagine your right about the smoke, I'm sure I read somewhere else on here about bonfire night :S I think they should have kept the river blue on the newer maps lol

  • AT LAST, the mystery of that black mark is revealed! :D

many of us thought it was just an accidental smudge on the "what-we-thought" map!

    thanx, S350XWB!

  • pmsl dot dont change lol she still 87

  • bloody 'ell- bin a bit since i saw this version of the opening :)

  • Burning members of other religious denominations on a fire binds a community together. (Ok Dot, whatever you say!).

  • have you read my comment...it is sarcastic...

  • ohh its a model, I wonderd why the thames was blue.

  • the picture quality was different its because it was filmed on video back then thats why the river was so blue but they film it different now hence why its better. btw it was probably smokey because the pilots were farting and they created brown fog

  • 1) Why are you insulting the place you live?

    2) It's not smokey in the new theme sequence.

  • so just because it aint dirty on the current theme sequence that means it aint dirty?

  • should you know?

i live in the east end...

  • It's not smokey in the new ones it's clean East London is not dirty (I don't live in London I live in Port Talbot)East London is not dirty!

  • Why is it like all black and smokey?

  • because east london is a dirty place

  • fancy a swim?

    sod spain

    nice river!

  • CAFC2K8: "Fancy a swim? Sod Spain, nice river!" LOL

  • the thames dont even look real on this clip lmao

  • whjats the difference between the 1985 and the 1990 credits

  • For one the Thames is no longer radioactive...

  • One of the most memorable theme songs EVER!

    Anyone can fall in love.

    I used to lone EastEnders.

  • god save pauline fowler!! rip

  • wow sunglasses at the ready people! how did we not go blind???

  • I remember when it had this opening, me and my brother would spin around to it for some mad reason.

  • Old school, lol.

  • all the blue hair dye used in the 80s was washed out into the thames LOL thts my only explanation 4 y it was blue :S

  • you bitch - you cow

  • dots catch phrase shows up in every episode 'oh i say'

  • They changed it to green when they brought in the updated theme in 1993. Then a load of saddos complained that they didnt like the new jazzy opening and got it changed back to the old theme!

  • i think they changed the river colour to make it more life-like, if you know what i mean!

  • how comes the river themes was bright blue then but now it's a darkish dirtish green

  • pollution

just imagine what it'll look like when the water rises from the melting icebergs

  • Good Point

  • have you seen the Themes? it's darker than that.

  • because your mum had a bath in it. hahaha lol

  • hahaha

  • me mum lives in the states and they have proper lavatories. where's ur mum from? my mum grew up in stepney. a real paradise. it wern't trendy then.

  • No it is because of better quality camera's .

  • Doesn't Sound That Much Different 'Cept For The Weird Bells =/

  • What on earth was Dot trying to say at the end of the video?!

  • "Oh I say, binds the community, don't it, Bonfire Night"

    ;)

  • sounds kinda festive... huhmm.

  • Spyrobandi please get your punctuation and spelling right besides this opening in 22 years old idiot

  • It's not 22 years old, it was made in 1991.

Get your counting right before you speak.

  • @FrancisIdents Eastenders was first broadcast Feb 1985

  • Not on about the program itself, on about this opening. It was first broadcast in 1991.

  • @FrancisIdents no it wasnt it was made in 1985

  • @bethanyleee

Nope. Look at the Eastenders opening on the official channel, that's the 1985 one.

  • so 80s! synthetic river water! LOL

  • I love this I remember it so much. Eastenders rocks

  • lol dot looks da same

  • the original blue map was definately a model and the green map is definately a real shot

  • The blue map was created using over 1000 real aerial photos, the blue river colouring was added because you could see the joinings of the photographs in this area.

The current map is more computer generated....hence the flowing river

All maps & graphics designed by Alan Jeapes

  • Models? I thought it was always aerial photos. The original one would've been shot on film with a rostrum camera and the later "green" version would've been animated by computer graphics. Titles are by Alan Jeapes who did the ones for Eldorado too. He also designed the BBC 2 logo used in the 80s. Genius!

  • It's amazin how the thames has gone from a fluorescent blue to a merky green over the years, thats what pollution does :(

    xxx :)

  • Eastenders and hollyoaks are my fave soaps!

  • sammmeeee

  • THAT'S WHAT I WANT TO KNOW!!

  • lol you know I didn't really like them much either. It's odd. Now when I look back, the birds eye view of the thames kind of creeped me out. Strange being a kid.

  • why?

  • when i was young, i used to be scared of the eastenders intros (all of them)

  • This version of the music sounds far better than the current one - mainly because having those drums beats at the beginning doesn't work - they should be saved for the end.

  • same with me and i much prefer this map as well

  • first comment! wow! i also prefer this map! the music is also nice!

  • i luv old enders!

  • I do believe that the music here is a very slightly altered version of the original, introduced in the early 90s. This is not as it sounds in th earlier years of the show.

  • does anyone know where to get his music from?

  • just download it from limewire or some other file sharing programme

  • I meant 5th November 1991 or 1992!

  • from 1985 - 1993 there were no drum beats at the beginning only at the end to signal the cliffhanger which makes more sense really!

  • they should just bring this tune back, sounds better and has more prestige.

  • This was on Bonfire Night (5th December) in either 1991 or 1992.

  • I mean 5th November!

  • That T thing on the river thames is now where the millenium dome is so that area was redeveloped it used to be an old gas works

  • they should use this music at christmas its sounds very christmasy

  • Why is Walford so polluted with black smog and what is that T-shaped thing in the thames? It isn't on the current title screen

  • The t-shaped thing is a pier which was removed when they built the myllennium dome. It is not a model of london it is an ariel view stuck on blue paper with the water areas cut out so the blue will show through!

  • the drums got nicked while they were recording this, beacuse there were too many chief during 1985 lol.

  • WHERE'S THE DRUMS?

  • BTW, for the description, it's always called the River Thames, not the Thames River. I know it's the wrong way round compared to most things, but that's how it is in the UK... it's weird to see it like that from a British POV.

  • I'LL CORRECT IT.
