In the past, I've used drills, knifes, and wires to put holes in my nail. This is by far the best method I've tried -- no pain at all. Laying the hot wire across the nail keeps it from gouging into the flesh. Plus, it allows a bigger hole for pressure releif. It's been a week and I still get some drainage but my finger is nearly normal again.
I did this to myself last night, it was beautiful.
