Panser be grateful you get a Blizzcon convention at all, most companies don't bother. They could easily post the announcement of a new game online, and by the end of the week, every gaming/entertainment website will post the news. Saving them a lot of time and money in the name of "advertising" at Blizzcon. Blizzard has a strong presence in the gaming community after all.

But according to NASDAQ Activision Blizzard has an outstanding share value of approximately $13B. Yes. $13 Billion. It would take more looking around to find the company's ACTUAL value. but for now this a good benchmark to go by.
they cancelled it because they do have a packed schedule because they are tired of constantly changing their release dates for games. Shame....I tried going to Blizzcon in 2009. The ticket website was so laggy because of all the people on the site that I could not even get to the checkout page until they were all sold out......shame to see it go.
I remember demoing BC and WOTLK at gencon in Indy. I personally flew a FP in Howling Fjord before it was even on a world map. So, I know up until Wrath, they did visit other venues. I've never been to Blizzcon, I don't have the scraps to go anyways. But, it would bum me out if it was something I did annually.
I can't Imagine that they loose money on blizzcon, not counting the amount of people that go to blizzcon. I imagine that AT LEAST 1% of wowsubscribers pay for a virtual ticket soo that would be 100,000 people at 40$ a pop = 4mil. And I would think that the numbers who order a virtual ticket is higher then 1%

Survival isn't a concern when cancelling a convention that was originally started specifically for the fans, not for profit. I think they cancelled simply because they don't have everything ready that they were planning on having for this years convention, and rather than saying that, they threw out this "busy schedule" excuse instead to gain more time.

As much as I hate that they have canceled Blizzcon 2012 may have been a smart move. It takes a long time to organize such a large event. It also is very costly. Probably a wise move to spend more time working on game content. I am pissed off too. I don't attend Blizzcon but I do watch it online and get really excited like most people do. Honestly, I can understand where you're coming from, but if you think about it, they do have quite the workload.. Mists, Diablo 3, and the SC2 expansion.. Ontop of that, there's really nothing ' new ' for them to announce. If you notice in most of the previous cons, they have announced something new, Cata, SC2, etc etc. Yeah, in a sense, they're too busy for the fans, because they're trying to keep the fans happy. They're working their rears off for the to push out new content.
And this is how the world ends... My friend once said... it all starts with the new year of 2012 then no blizzcon.. then diablo crashed starcraft gets abandoned and wow gets trolled so much the system crashes same as diablo blizzard goes into debt and shuts down riots in the streets and the world blows up from all the blizzard fans rage and sadness.... i knew it ...
And what would they announce at Blizzcon? Diablo III come out in march, MoP and Swarm comes out jut before Blizzcon, so they have nothing new to tell us ....
If I were you, I'd be worrying less about why Blizzcon was cancelled and more about why I lost The Tester because I thought eating a fuckton of saltine crackers would be fast.
The simple fact of the matter is Blizzard is threatened by Trion Worlds' Rift and who ever produced the new Star Wars game. Although Rift has only been in progress a year and a half or so alot of gaming experts ( people who write and project for Game Informer etc) think that Rift has what it takes to bring the giant down. For the first time in their history, Blizzard has serious competition to its multi-million dollar industry and their scared. And because of that we die hard fans get fucked.
@SirNevyn LOL what a load of bull. Rift has nothing on WoW, it's like a carbon copy of WoW with updated graphics. Big deal. SWTOR on the other hand is a different story, but we'll see how that pans out. The ONLY reason why Blizzard is actually losing their customer base from WoW is because of Cataclysm. Most people including myself quit because of Cataclysm. Blizzard has no fear of competition from Rift. With MoP and D3 in their lineup, money is gonna keep rolling in.
Blizzcon is nothing more than a PR event that fans are allowed to come to. With them releasing Diablo 3, MoP, Heart of the Swarm, and Blizzard DotA this year, they really wouldnt have much to show. Keep in mind they didnt have a Blizzcon 2006 either. The point is, why have a PR event when there is nothing really to show?
I was never able to make it to blizzcon, but it was like Christmas to my friends and I. We'd watch it at my house, and have a blast. This year we were saving up to actually make the trip to blizzcon, but have sence dropped that fantasy when we heard it was cancelled.

The big thing Blizzard does for it's fans imo is not Blizzcon. It's the games they make. THEN there is Blizzcon when it's still feasible. It's too far away and really expensive so I can't go either way. That being said I'd pretty much give a limb to go. I go to several other cons but those are 2nd rate. Actually its not blizzard's fault, Activision is probably pushing them to get all their games out this year. They got Diablo 3, Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm, World of Warcraft Pandaren, they also have the secret project for their next mmorpg to focus on. And with Activision pushing them they have no choice but to take away blizzcon for a year.
Unfortunately Panzer, they would've had nothing to announce... So BlizzCon wouldnt really be amusing at all aside from visiting with everyone and the atmosphere. I would totally still go even if they didnt have anything to announce because BlizzCon is just an amazing experience, but I think that is one of the real reasons.

I agree wtf. I live in australia and can't go to blissconn but that is for us fans. Like when the last expansion came out in AUS. They only gave us a little pet and a crappy mouse mat that isnt good for anything. My mouse don't work on it. For the collectors edition. That sucks.

you got me interested so i did a bit of digging. and i mean a bit. this is just a preliminary number of their outstanding shares. But according to NASDAQ Activision Blizzard has an outstanding share value of approximately $13B. Yes. $13 Billion. It would take more looking around to find the company's ACTUAL value. but for now this a good benchmark to go by.

they cancelled it because they do have a packed schedule because they are tired of constantly changing their release dates for games. I remember demoing BC and WOTLK at gencon in Indy. I personally flew a FP in Howling Fjord before it was even on a world map. So, I know up until Wrath, they did visit other venues. I've never been to Blizzcon, I don't have the scraps to go anyways. But, it would bum me out if it was something I did annually.

I can't Imagine that they loose money on blizzcon, not counting the amount of people that go to blizzcon. I imagine that AT LEAST 1% of wowsubscribers pay for a virtual ticket soo that would be 100,000 people at 40$ a pop = 4mil. And I would think that the numbers who order a virtual ticket is higher then 1%

@97Scale Survival? Even with the big loss in WoW subs, do you have any idea how much money WoW alone still produces every month. Survival isn't a concern when cancelling a convention that was originally started specifically for the fans, not for profit. I think they cancelled simply because they don't have everything ready that they were planning on having for this years convention, and rather than saying that, they threw out this "busy schedule" excuse instead to gain more time.

@EmericanNinjaGamming Yeah, but SWTOR is extremely close to WoW in gameplay and quests. Guild Wars 2 is going to be entirely different all together in those aspects along with many others. Either way, nothing can "kill" WoW, but I think some other games will grab the hardcore players.

As much as I hate that they have canceled Blizzcon 2012 may have been a smart move. It takes a long time to organize such a large event. It also is very costly. Probably a wise move to spend more time working on game content. I am pissed off too. I don't attend Blizzcon but I do watch it online and get really excited like most people do. But I think it may be a good idea in the long run.

Honestly, I can understand where you're coming from, but if you think about it, they do have quite the workload.. Mists, Diablo 3, and the SC2 expansion.. Ontop of that, there's really nothing ' new ' for them to announce. If you notice in most of the previous cons, they have announced something new, Cata, SC2, etc etc. Yeah, in a sense, they're too busy for the fans, because they're trying to keep the fans happy. They're working their rears off for the to push out new content.

The simple fact of the matter is Blizzard is threatened by Trion Worlds' Rift and who ever produced the new Star Wars game. Although Rift has only been in progress a year and a half or so alot of gaming experts ( people who write and project for Game Informer etc) think that Rift has what it takes to bring the giant down. For the first time in their history, Blizzard has serious competition to its multi-million dollar industry and their scared. And because of that we die hard fans get fucked.

SWTOR on the other hand is a different story, but we'll see how that pans out. The ONLY reason why Blizzard is actually losing their customer base from WoW is because of Cataclysm. Most people including myself quit because of Cataclysm. Blizzard has no fear of competition from Rift. With MoP and D3 in their lineup, money is gonna keep rolling in.

Blizzcon is nothing more than a PR event that fans are allowed to come to. With them releasing Diablo 3, MoP, Heart of the Swarm, and Blizzard DotA this year, they really wouldnt have much to show. Keep in mind they didnt have a Blizzcon 2006 either. The point is, why have a PR event when there is nothing really to show?

I was never able to make it to blizzcon, but it was like Christmas to my friends and I. We'd watch it at my house, and have a blast. This year we were saving up to actually make the trip to blizzcon, but have sence dropped that fantasy when we heard it was cancelled.
Your right to be upset, god knows I am. It was something designed for us core fans. To cancel on us is just a slap to the face. Its like Blizzard said "thanks for the support, now fuck off"

Think about it they are losing so many players they may not have the resources being able to do so. which is there own fault due to lack of listening to players... The big thing Blizzard does for it's fans imo is not Blizzcon. It's the games they make. THEN there is Blizzcon when it's still feasible. As such a big fan you should really try and understand that before making this emotional appeal based on something you fabricated in your mind. I expected better from you tbh. If we just blindly agree with what they do and support then Blizzard won't pick up the slack when they screw up. And in this case I'd say that their games they make aren't 'for the fans' they are to make money for the company while BlizzCon IS for the fans. It's a chance for the fans to get something more than just 'I pay you money for your games' We don't need blind followers of Blizzard

It's too far away and really expensive so I can't go either way. That being said I'd pretty much give a limb to go. I go to several other cons but those are 2nd rate. I watch all the blizz-con updates online. It's really fucked up that they'd shut it down for being "too busy" you'd think being busy would be all the more reason to have a convention about all the awesome new things happening in the blizzard world. I'm not happy either... I see it as a money saving fuck you to the fans.

Actually its not blizzard's fault, Activision is probably pushing them to get all their games out this year. They got Diablo 3, Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm, World of Warcraft Pandaren, they also have the secret project for their next mmorpg to focus on. And with Activision pushing them they have no choice but to take away blizzcon for a year.

Unfortunately Panzer, they would've had nothing to announce... So BlizzCon wouldnt really be amusing at all aside from visiting with everyone and the atmosphere. I would totally still go even if they didnt have anything to announce because BlizzCon is just an amazing experience, but I think that is one of the real reasons.

My opinion: With wow dying down, meaning Cata blowing and mists looking to be just outright stupid (no offense to panda lovers) I think blizzard thought they had nothing to lose.
