Kirkhope obviously based the OST off this song because let's face it, this is just a typical picnic for Banjo. Beating big ugly witches? Allll the time.
Haha, it's fun hearing different versions of this song. I was given this to learn as a solo on the marimba back in middle school. I suddenly remembered it and decided to play it, but I realized that I'd never heard the original!
THANK YOU! The first time I noticed the similarities between the two songs, it drove me crazy. I'm so glad SOME ONE ELSE noticed too, and you even made this great remix of it. THANK YOU!
I gotta say though, perhaps the beginning was similar because it started on a C Minor chord. If you look at many of his other songs (Mad Monster Mansion, Klungo's Theme, and Creepy Castle to name a few) they all incorporate the C minor chord in at least one part of the song. The rest of the song kind of incorporates itself as a variation on a melody (if not an entirely new one).
It's not a coincidence. Teddy Bear Picnic is as ingrained into the public consciousness as Jingle Bells is. Kirkhope obviously knew what the song sounded like when he was composing it. That doesn't mean he did anything unethical. They are two different songs, but it WAS inspired by Teddy Bear Picnic. That is an undeniable fact.

um sure it wasn't 1932 by henry hall
joeslickback 1 year ago
@joeslickback His orchestra just performed it. It was composed in 1907 by John Walter Bratton and the lyrics were added in 1932 by Jim Kennedy.

@FromTheGang ok just wondering cause I didn't know not bad with this video it sounds very close to gruntilda's lair.

This is an awesome rendition. And every time, I expect it to go up to play the Banjo theme.

i love that music yeah! XD

The beat was a little off at some parts, but other than that, it's pretty good! Gives the Teddy Bear's Picnic a more sinister edge.

To be honest, I think Gruntilda´s lair and Cranky´s lab (DK 64) sound similar
Quietschquatsch 2 years ago 4
@Quietschquatsch
The DK's music is similar to Banjo K's music, because were created by the same company.

@zharazan1 I know that, but thanks anyway for this information.

this makes sence 2 me because the game is about a bear(and a bird)....and the teddy bear's picnic is about bears...so ya, it makes sence 2 me :)

People seem to not realize that Banjo is a freakin' bear and going through Grunty's Lair can be anything but a Teddy Bear's Picnic :-P
SpinelessScales 2 years ago 28
I see a strong similarity in some parts, but I wouldn't go so far as to say Grant Kirkhope based it off of that song unless he stated it himself.
Nythe 2 years ago
Uhh, so why was I downthumbed? Grant Kirkhope SAID the song wasn't based on The Teddy Bear's Picnic.
Nythe 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Unknown to most people, Grant Kirkhope didn't base Grunty's Lair off Teddy Bear's Picnic, it's just a coincidence that they sound similar.
Tanjo22 2 years ago
Yeah, he was asked and denied that this was the inspiration so I don't know why people are giving this thumbs down. Oh well... :/
