I wish the UP took better care of the track after the merger. The line has since been downgraded from "mainline" to "brachline". Now six-axle power in evansville is just a memory. Now thats just dang sad!... I live in evasville, and I hear of people needing to travel to chicago all the time. We all know that evansville shares the Union Pacific northwest line into chicago which is served by metra. So does madison. WAKE UP UNION PACIFIC!!!!!!!!! We need to think of the benifits of this line!!!

I am from evansville and your right the train doesn't go through as much anymore. but are you sure it has been that long cause when I first moved to evansville I was about 5 and we lived close to the tracks we used to hear it all the time but not as much anymore and I am now twenty so it was like 1994

In 1994 Chicago and Northwestern Railroad was still using the whole line from Janesville to Madison. Now most Union Pacific traffic from Janesville ends here at the Landmark loop which is southeast of town by County Rd. M. IIRC there is a lumber yard near the old C&NW depot downtown that gets cars once in awhile. Otherwise nothing runs from the Highway 59 crossing northward except sometimes UP parks unneeded freight cars for long-term storage on a few miles of the line north of town.

This section of the line was never out of service. The part that hasn't seen a train since 1997 is west of here.

I was at home at this point. Dad's job involves a lot of driving around southern Wisconsin, and he railfans in the downtime. He called me and I drove down and chased this train from Evansville back to Janesville.
