What's worst is the cynicism of Mr. President Dos Santos who is still dividing the country economically for his own family! It is obvious that Dos Santos needs the use of force to impose fear over the population to keep on dividing the country's wealth for his offspring. But for those who live or have lived in Angola, knows the growing dissatisfaction that hovers over the country, from the illiterate to the literate alike. What will be the result after Dos Santos' gone? Only God knows.
...and war is ugly bro, a young, independent, and previously communist AFRICAN country doesn't have the "credits" in the eyes of the "international community" to be accorded a Marshall Plan, hence, if we take into account this and this only, maybe the answer to your question is yes, but if the majority of the angolans were for the maintenance of the portuguese power I would be a young voice of dissent trying to convince them otherwise.
cool, just always wanted to know from someone who lived/lives there, because i never really learnt of any history of my own country and all i could get was random info here and there and not real feelings on the subject. Since you asked me if i knew any angolans i've met people who i've found out fled angola to south africa and back, I ask them on the situation and all they saw is it was good and we had to go...
... and that's it. One was a half cast who was spoilt rotten with servants and and lots of land and all he says is his family lost a lot of money. Ma mum say's Salazar loved africa too much and robed money from tuga and killed some of her family (so she hate's him), and my dad say's that africa was a good idea (he loves him). My family back home said that it was richer then portugal at a time which is what the saw on tv when they were little...
...And then i'm left to think shhhiitt :-s how could Angola be left in such a state. But grande obrigado de ters respondido essa pergunta, obrigado mesmo! Aprendi muito, feels like to me that every one knew what the answer was or didn't want to know, from what i've got from people is a "who knows" and nothing else.
lisboainjersey, to cut your thought short... there are A SHITLOAD OF IFS that had to be materialised in order for it to eventually be a better country, the first one and the strongest argument being that it had to be the WILL of the angolan people to remain a portuguese province (like it is the case with lots of actual overseas french territories/islands). From the moment where upheaval brews, the milk turns sour, and WAR follows...
i don't want sound ignorant or nothing but, será Angola would of been better if Portugal stayed in there? I'm not in anyone's side when I ask that or know about the shit before and after, but it's just a thought.
I need to correct myself in saying SOME profit..at least some of it SHOULD go to the native peoples. To whish ALL the profits go to them is just silly of me, No matter how much I whish it.
this sucks...big oil needs to be broken up and the money should go to the the TRUE owners of the land. just like the diamond industry..the strong prey on the weak. Screw the true mineral rights owners, land owners. Take and get fat off the backs of the bruised. We bitch because our gas is $4 a gallon..look what they go through! pure evil going on there.
