  • larry bird on drums

  • Damn, I watched this show every single day before school. This is one of those moments that I am getting old which sucks because I don't feel old. If your 37ish you know exactly what I mean.

  • the instrument playing is legit--the show producers gathered three talented young musicians. On every episode they would play either an original tune or a cover tune--it was in fact an important segment of the show. Later after the show went off the air, the black guy later became the lead singer of the Village People on their very last album--true story people. RIP Ray Stephens......

  • I'll just bet that the actors didn't really play the instruments.

  • It looks like Ralph Malph on drums and "Boom Boom" Washington on keyboards :)

  • Boy-oh-boy! We would watch any crap back then wouldn't we.

  • on par with the monkeys. ie: no one is actually playing anything.

  • omg that chick playing the guitar looks like the comedian voice impressionist contestant on america's got talent, her name is villasenor something lol

  • Did you guys notice that Kevin Clash did the voice of Girridle Gorilla.....who is now the infamous voice of Elmo?!!! How cool!

  • @1CurVQT uhmn .. do you mean thrilla gorilla? or grape ape? your comments kinda ... dank.

  • @badleroybrown8 OMG!!!!!!!!!!! I still sing that song..."Today is a yellow-orange day". I'm sorry that I don't know where to find it. Do you remember the Stickball Sally song?!

  • It doesn't look right that the black guy's keyboard is covered in duct tape!

  • it doesn't even have strings

  • Holy shit, I forgot Larry Bird was the drummer on this show!

  • @heatlightenin nice

  • Where's Roller Coaster Rick.....the boy who loved roller coasters.

  • Danny was played by Chris Gifford...I would have sworn he was Chris DIFFORD from the band Squeeze!

  • Does anyone know if there is a recording of the music from this kid's show? I particularly like the Yellow-orange Song.

  • This show sucked! I hated it !

  • @AFGSANFORD2 I'm pretty sure not one person in the world cares :D

  • @meph1975 I don't give a crap what you say! I would much rather watch The Nightly Business Report, Mister Rogers Neighborhood, or Doctor Who.

  • @meph1975 I don't give a crap what you say.

  • I want a ROCKING WITH ROARY video!!!

  • Does anybody know how Ray Stephens died?

  • @rubinoos1 Ray isnt dead , He is on tour look at his web page ...

  • @DeathCrueVideos Ray Stephens (not to be confused with Ray Stevens) died at age 35 on October 4, 1990

  • roint on the other side wtf! i bet you know he dont he even know what he said

  • @asbutler, You talking about the song? I've always thought,"Roaring toward the other side, where only rainbows hide..."

  • This show was awesome! Girrriddle Gorrilla!

  • The guy who played Danny, Chris Gifford, is the guy who co-created Dora The Explorer! He also is the voice of The Grumpy Old Troll and The Big Red Chicken LOLz. Just found out!

  • I remember The Great Space Coaster here in Atlanta, Georgia!

It was on WGNX, now known as WGCL, where they gave Atlanta a great choice on the TV Shows of the Day, from The Greatest American Hero, The Great Space Coaster, Transformers, GI Joe and JEM-Truly Outrageous!

    DANGER WOMAN

  • @DangerWoman35 : Ya'll had it going on down there! My morning line-up was similar as a child.

  • Sunbow Productions did this show? They also did GI Joe, Transformers, and Jem back in the 1980s.

  • and mr larry bird on drums, ladies and gentlemen...

  • Oh the memories. Wonder where that all are now.

  • oh my god guys..I just posted this randomly and look at all these hits! holy crap!

  • @rstdot I remember watching this after coming home from chicago public schools in the early 80s and wondering can my grandpa take me to meet them and that yellow ship. sometimes i was interested, sometimes i flipped back to the Thundercats..lol

  • "The Great Space Coaster" were aired from 1981 to 1986 on such stations as WNEW (now WNYW), WTAF (now WTXF) and WFLD.

  • HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! This was my joint. Heard that the black guy passed away.

  • @78Sista quite a while ago. he was the lead singer of the Village People.

  • As a kid I had a huge crush on Emily Bindiger!

  • Comment removed

  • I swear, childhood memories!!!

  • Is that Larry Bird on drums?

  • 1981?! I was omly 5 years old when this show was on. I remember it well, it was pretty funny. :)

  • @vidman1976 Holy crap. I was only 4! I remember when I was going to kindergarten how if I saw these closing credits,it ment I'd have to walk to school because I was about to miss the bus.

  • Love the theme song......awesome....

  • Seriously.. This is like a million times better than the opening sequence. Gotta love the live version !!

  • I heard this before, but I always thought the girl singer was black.

  • @tubemaster2703 No, Emily Bindiger was never black. If you look closely, however, you'll notice that Roy, aka Ray Stephens, the one on the keyboards, is

  • @Maskedmutant I always thought it was one of the pointer sisters that sang that particular part.

  • Comment removed

  • @maskedmutant I was referring to her guitar. Same style that Dimebag Darrell of Pantera used.

  • I loved this show!! God it's old though. God I'm old.

  • These guys should cut a record!

  • I had a crush on the orange haired drummer as a pre-teen! LOL. I don't think they really played this song. It's obvious they are lip synching but I don't even think now the playing looks realistic. The lady is just strumming the same strings! LOL

  • o O. i'm late for school.

  • Wow!! Im 10 years old all over again!!!!

  • now THAT is what i call funky!

  • I remember when the only station in our area to run this show started running it - in 1986, after the original shows stopped being made.

I remember how Fran had what was supposed to be this hard-rock guitar - and strummed it like Joan Baez.

Anyway, I had a thing for Fran, who had to be older than 16, myself. Unfortunately, she wasn't the whole show, but I sure wished there was an episode that had no-one else but her on it.

  • always enjoyed watching them at the end of the show

  • Kevin Clash was on this show? So this is where he started before Elmo..amazing...

  • @Gaylel1 This show had a few Muppet people who came and went: today, Jim Martin is a director and Muppeteer for Sesame Street, and Noel MacNeal is also a fixture with both Sesame and other Muppet projects; while both John Lovelady and Jim Kroupa previously worked with Jim Henson on various project, but eventually left to pursue other venues of puppetry. Lovelady's even worked with Sid and Marty Krofft.

  • Brings back great 80's memories!

  • that dude has a orange afro smh..

  • i do the girl in the band lol

  • talk about time travel

  • This ending was a grim reminder to shut the TV off and go to school.

    I hated 5th grade.

  • @rkevo55 Me too. I must have been late to school a lot because I wanted to watch the whole show. The memories.

  • i remember the black guy always kept cartoons in his pocket I never even had a viewmaster....

  • She has Dimebags guitar!

  • @jaazektaproot LOL holy shit she did!!

  • @jaazektaproot Dimebags in her guitar? How would you know? Was she your connection or something?

  • That guy on drums looks very familiar, like I have seen him on other shows

  • @slamjammer100 Far as I know, this was his 1st gig - you know he's the co-creator/producer of Dora the Explorer?

  • This brings back memories.

  • I wouldn't have kicked Francine out of bed. :P

  • No. It was a show. I saw a few episodes, but I cannot remember what it was called.

  • Roy,the drummer,sounds like Art Garfunkel.

  • i love the "explorer" she's pretending to play.

  • @SteveandDevon I think Buck Dharma played a similar guitar on some "Godzilla" vids and other BAC stuff.

  • I was 6 years old back then and having the time of my life...thanks for this vid.

  • I was 4 yrs old when this show came out, it was one of my favorites

  • I remember this show!

  • that person is youtube user fl1992,and he is annoying.he is obsessive with the guitar player of the great space coaster.he is the same person here on youtube

  • I was 7 when this show came on TV! The girl on the show (Francine a.k.a. Emily Bindiger) was my favorite character.

  • they probably really sang the lyrics and played on the origional recording, but were faking it here.

  • WOW! 1981! i was only 5 years old when that show was on & I still remember it 28 years later! :)

  • I think they were lip synching.

  • Gee ya think??? LOL!!!

  • the brotha got soul!!!!!!

  • @abernam Hard to believe he was the cop from The Village People, huh?

  • these musicians/actors are talented ... all of them can sing and play an instrument.

  • yeah, being on a kids show back then didn't mean you had to totally suck at life.

    ...Barney... *shakes head and cries*

  • How about my man, Mr. M.T. Promises?

  • Awesome 80's cheese!

  • Is this the same show where they would say "Bumba Bumba Bumba!" I remember watching a show that I think was this one before school in the am and I remember them saying that.

  • (Continued post) They use to hangout in what appeared to be a basment where they would solve crimes (I think) The only episode I can recall is one in which they were on what appeard to be some kind of outerspace rollercoaster. Anyone have any clues what this show was?

  • There was a TV show that I use to watch as a kid, but I cannot remember what it was called and I only have a few vague memories of it. There were three teenagers (at least I think that they were teenagers) Two girls and one boy. One girl had brown hair, the other blond and the boy had brown.

  • larry bird, leroy green and the jelliebean junction lady after an intensive deal-a -meal regimine supervised by sho kosugi himself to get her in tip top condition for their world tour!!!

  • Hmmm... a comet ride of fantasy? Sounds like something I got offered in Vegas last year....

Actually, I really liked this show when I was younger, especially Gary Gnu-- no Gnus is good Gnus!

  • This stuff is as deeply embedded in my psyche as the beatles and kiss and ice cream.

  • I loved this show! ^^

  • wow i remember this show. i like how there fake playing those insterments.

  • I was 4 in 1981, and good 80's cheese.

  • I was 4 also and haven't seen this since then. I cant wait to tell my sister

  • OMG!! I didn't realize Kevin Clash was the puppeteer for GoRiddle! He's Elmo now! This is before he was anything special apparently!

  • Makes you wonder if Kevin Clash must have come out of the womb with an arm wrapped in felt. X)

  • So long ago, such fond memories of that time.

  • Yippeeeee!!! So much memories. I use to have a big crush on that guitar girl. Thanks for the post.

  • Damn I missed this show. Roy was my dawg!!!

  • whats sadder that remember all the words to this or that i'm old enough to even remember this at all :(

  • I miss this show.

  • Larry Bird great drummer, or greatest drummer?

  • That's not larry bird you dorks, read the credits!!

  • The black guy was one of the singers in the Village People. He's dead now.

  • bullcrap, where did you hear that ? cuz its wrong !!!

  • No hes not the guy from Village People. I suppose next you'll tell me hes David from Sesame Street who in fact is dead

  • @Kelski1998 Actually, he was. He was the policeman. BTW, he's dead, too

  • Your an idiot. I bet you think the "black guy" also was a product of a broken inner city family too. Man everyday people like you prove that education is key to survival.

  • haha, couldnt have said it better myself, he just set white people back 200 years

  • Ah 1981 ...memories

  • Jeez was that 81'? Ah the memories.

  • Emily Bindiger the girl has her own band that kicks butt!!!!!

  • Francine was hot!

  • larry bird on the drums and the reading rainbow guy singing?

  • Danny was the guy on the drums. They guy playing the piano was Roy. And the brunette's name was Fran.

  • Lol!! Thats what I said Larry Bird on drums! Good observation man.

  • Do you remember TGSC episode where Frannie and Danny kept hitting a bell with Danny's drumsticks to disrupt Goriddle Gorilla's talk show?

  • Yes! Do you remember the episode where young Frannie got her first period and got all freaked out and had to borrow a feminine product from NocNoc (the bird)??? I only have hazy memories of that one.

  • that's funny.. LMAO!

  • dl4825, no the guy on Reading Rainbow was LaVar Burton AKA, Toby from roots and Geordi LaForge on Star Trek TNG, The video was a little grainy, but I don't think that was him.

  • HAHA! Thats what i thought. 30 years later i find out that Larry Bird was on that show!

  • i don't want to sign a petition to bring this show back, i just want it to remain a part of my childhood as it should!

all i remember was roy because he was black and he added some much needed soul to the theme song. i do not know any of the other cast members names and don't really care to.

  • lol!!!! totally... i did see it on comcast on demand once but when i went back to watch it it was gone. im gonna find out who owns previous episodes and tell them to bring it back.

  • family guy!!

  • TGSC had totally left my consciousness before that episode of Family Guy. It was something I hadn't thought about in over 20 years.

  • Do you remember any of the female guest stars that appeared on TGSC? Like Sally Struthers?

  • aw... this makes me sad.. i wanna go back.

  • i remember this show from 1981 i was 12

  • So lemme get this straight...what your saying is Frannie was the whole show?

  • Dude, what is your fixation w/ The Great Space Coaster. I'm old enough to remember it like it was yesterday, and it wasn't that good. Moreover, Frannie was not that attractive, man. You seem to have an obsession w/ her, but that's all right, if you're a big fan. I'm not going to criticize anything that will make you happy. I mean, I'm a big fan of Jim Morrison, and find his life very interesting. Btw, Frannie is still alive and well, right?

  • Frannie is his only friend.

  • You should see his posts on IMDB. It's basically the same shit over and over again. He's name is floridanitalian

  • @cvjucla3 Yes she is. "Frannie", aka Emily Bindiger, is still around & kicking (for a 55-year-old, that is) & she has her own website. I'd recommend you check it out

  • The need a bass player. lol.

  • Do you remember any GSC episodes with Frannie, the 16 year old brunette singer/guitar player and Puppet Goriddle Gorilla?

  • "fl1992"-Sunbow productions and the Claster Corp. who made "GSC" also made "Romper Room".

  • Of all of Sunbow/Claster's tv shows, there was only one Great Space Coaster though!

  • "fl1992"-"GSC" lasted for 5 seasons in first-run syndication from 1981 to 1986.

  • @fl1992 Uh, 16? Francine, aka Emily Bindiger, was 26 when Space Coaster began and 31 when it ended. Where have you gotten 16?

  • The next thing fl1992 will ask you is if you remember Frannie's teasing nature with Goriddle Gorilla. Then he will say that she was the whole show.

  • fl has no life, hes but fucking the TGSC vids. for about 2 years now.

  • Really? How sad....and disturbing.

  • Is that Linda Rondstadt singing?

  • yeah, and Lionel Richie's on the keyboard, and the drummer is Phil Collins. So dumb, so stupid

  • The group that was introduced by The DJ Puppet Rory on TGSC was called Danny and The Spacecoasters. The 3 teenagers, Fran, Danny, and Roy. And Baxter, The Clown too. A rock group that the evil circus ringleader M.T. Promises tried so desperately to break up by testing their egos.

  • That is funny. LOL

  • God, this takes me back. WOW! thanks for posting this. Been feeling a bit nostalgic as of late.

  • Do you remember the anti-gravity day episode, where everything in coasterville, including Frannie's guitar went flying up in the air?

  • Which Great Space Coaster episodes did you have on tape? Do you remember Frannie tickling Goriddle while wearing a gold ring on her ring finger? Do you remember when Goriddle stole Baxter's Diary and his 1980's style bananaman videogame?

  • @fl1992 I remember the bananaman game, & the gang stole Goriddle's bananas in retaliation, but I don't remember the tickling one

  • Do you remember The Huggles singing with child actress Aileen Quinn AKA Annie with long brown braids as a guest star on TGSC?

  • OMG, I think they actually know how to play their instruments. That's unheard of for actors!

  • The band with Frannie, Danny and Roy in TGSC credits was called The Spacecoasters. Occasionally on the show,Baxter, The Clown would join them, playing his Baxophone.

  • You know, I wondered this for quite some time. Frannie looks to me like she's faking it. Roy, it's hard to tell, but I'm leaning towards faking, as his hands and fingers don't seem to be moving very much. But Danny sure looks like he's playing for real (or at least mimicing real movements to the music). If not, he's a real good faker! Does anyone know for sure whether they actually played the instruments? I know they're actually singing, but what about playing?

  • Well I'm not totally sure but if they are fakin it they're really good. Frannie was playing a G chord and a D chord when she gets her little vocal solo. I don't know.

  • Do you remember when Frannie used to babysit The Huggles for Baxter? She was so Gorgeous! She was the whole show as TGSC female lead!

  • Do you remember TGSC episode where Frannie and Goriddle sang a song alone together about being special?

  • @zhelder That IS their real voices

  • 1981 1 rem that show
