You know we have such a shortage of milk toast, white, middle aged, pudgy baby boomers singin classic folk songs, like they've ever experienced any type of hardships growing up. It must've been just horrible! Don't know how we survived w/out this cappucino drinking yuppie version of this song.
Folk songs are for everyone to sing. I make no apologies for doing my bit to pass on great songs like this. Maybe people hearing this for the first time (believe it or not, there are some) might be interested in seeking out some of the more authentic versions.
Do you also do the one about John Henry's son Hiram? The one that goes "Hiram Henry made a mean cappuccino over in the good side of town"? He got scalded but didn't die. Nasty story.
I like your version, very tuneful. Most ones I've heard do large parts of the tune deliberately out of tune or just recite whole verses. I don't know why, I like the tune as well as the song.
hey Uncle Raymond,go to warnerbrosrecords if you want to make yourself famous..im just saying cause you are very talented..I thanked god for His special creation,YOU!
Your rendition here is especially filled, fortified and embellished with a passion-driven urgency and the utmost calibre of enthusiasm. I felt the vibrations here on the other side of the computer screen. Many sincere thanks for sharing your take on this bonifide chestnut of a story song, kinf sir.

Do you take requests, btw?
JBurdoo 3 years ago
I have often taken requests. It depends on whether or not I know the song - or could be bothered learning it.
