This is STILL M-JEG codec...so...the quality is always VERY bad. The video is not hd...so they "can" have escuses....the nikons hd videos  (i have a nikon) always show giant blocks...because the stupid codec compression. Mjpeg is one of the worst codecs of all time....canon uses h264, witch is very good.

NIKON, LEAVE THE M-JPG! Is just stupid and primitive !

this is a very well-shot video, beautiful. Most of all it shows the tangible benefits of using SLR lenses over conventional handheld video camera lenses - the images are sharp, colors are rich, and look at that amazing depth of field. I can't believe the people complaining that it's not in HD. You're like those fools who think that more megapixels = better images.

Could not agree with this more - I was going to say this and now I don't need to - we are shooting a documentary for the BBC with two - OH YES we are !!!! although we are using a couple of Hasselblad lenses - but what I am really interested to see is when I get a chance to use my PC outfit on some architecture

D300S Video has filmy subtle color tone, that's good but, doesn't look HD quality. I am nikonin for last 30 years, but Canon 5D (Slumdog Millionaire fame) HD is way ahead.

This nice video is not uploaded or playing in Youtube's HD mode, so obviously it is not showing the full potential of the D300s video.

There are many other video's on Youtube showing more detail en less compression artifacts and smearring.

You are both right and wrong - it has a higher pixel count and does bring more colour and depth but until it gets the 24 fps it needs it won't surpass the Nikons end result - I have used both for the BBC and we preferred the Nikon every time - PS the Canon WAS NOT used on Slumdog it was Silicon Valleys P2 with a Kenyon Giro which helps for braking - I have used this actual camera and still prefer the Red although it is A) much heavier and B) less wieldly - been Cinematographer for 15 years

Strange - the camera shoots in 720p but there's no HQ or HD option on youtube (you can add the URL but it makes no diff in quality).

Wow, cool....I met both Ami and Dai (the editor) at the 2009 Wisconsin News Photographers Association Convention in March; Ami was shooting Canon at the time, I wonder if she switched or if she's just playing around with the pre-production version of the D300s. Either way, seeing those names at the end was an unexpected surprise.
