WoW being a massive success doesn't mean it's good, or even better than EQ. It means the game is so dumbed down that any moron can play it and succeed.
Everquest is hard: leveling is hard, questing is hard, and raiding was very hard.
All Blizzard did was take Everquest, dumb it down severely, and make the graphics cartoonish.
Nostalgia has nothing to do with it: EQ is simply a superior game in every respect. Choose WoW if you want more cartoons and very little challenge.

No other can match the game play and they still are coming out with new content. If EQ ever got there graphics up to present standards it would be an unstopable billion dollar enterprise.
Just resubbed and rolled a wizzy on the new 50/51 server(you get instant 51 when you make a toon along with VERY good gear/spells) and having a blast!. Tons of people are active and I always can find a group. Currently capped at 70 and raiding again it feels good.

I had played the game for 7 years and during those 7 years (starting as an immature brat looking for adventure) managed to have my account suspended thrice and banned twice, over the most foolish things-when GM's were a common sight. I regret putting so much time into it when I should have done other things, but the game was so stinking addictive at my age and time of release. Tried to get back into it but found it dull after current graphics.
I was almost 30 when i started playing and had recently gone back to college. This game nearly caused me to flunk my first semester at UNF. I still love it though. I'm playing eq2 right now. It's a great game, but it will never compare to the great grandaddy of MMOS. When you play everquest, you aren't on a server, you aren't playing eq, YOUR IN NORRATH. Stop living in the past and letting your nostalgia blind your judgement. Saying WoW sucks and that EQ2 is a "great game" makes no sense whatsoever. If you've played both, you know they are practically clones of each other. This is because Sony has done everything possible to make EQ2 as much like WoW as possible. WoW did it right.
If WoW sucked and EQ2 was a "great" game, EQ2 wouldn't be the failure it is today and WoW wouldn't be the massive success it is today, either.
I was almost thinking of going back to it but damn, i went from hell and back so many times on that game. EQ = a true hardcore mmorpg and one of the best games I ever had. The depth in the this game was amazing and still beats the newer mmorpgs by lightyears. however, the quests really sucked. Make an EQ3 with good quest but don't change anything else or whatever and I would spend probably another 3 years on the game or more :x
once i was some place in everquest i was fishing a pool in a city and this person kill me lol

I payed for this game like 5 days ago, and im having a blast. I like the old school graphics. But thats just me. the game is excellent.

If they made EQ a browser based game that I can play in my browser and not have any install like Quake Live then I would play it.
However the whole install process is like a commitment I don't want to make and thats why I wont try it currently. Kinda like Planetside.
If SOE had all their games browser based under one small subscription of like $15 a month for the service with no installs then that would be great.
