  • I think I was there. :-)

  • @LittleRaggie, Oh I was referring to the vid not the song. I've been performing this beauty for 30+ years. :)

  • KeepVid is the best & easiest downloader.... It allows you to download in any format you require.

  • I haven't been keeping up my channel since YouTube (via the big record companies) deleted most of them but thanks for all the nice replies.

I wonder if you folks know that YouTube vids are downloadable. Since I can't post a link you'll have to google the term "youtube downloader". It's free and it converts the flv files to avi. I usually use a third party software (magic video converter) to change the avi files to mpeg. Check it out.

  • Oh My Fucking gOD, this put me in another dimension...I'm a Dyed in the Wool POCO fan and just discovered this...COSMIC!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @1111mjon What took you so long???? Crazy Eyes is their bestest ever album..

  • So mellow......Ahhhhhh.

  • One of the few bands I never got to see live but would have loved to.

  • One of my all time favorite songs! Listening to Poco ALWAYS brings back great memories of my youth :) Thank You Poco, and thank you for posting the video! One of the best concerts I've ever seen was Poco and America at Red Rocks in 1977 :)

  • God I love these guys. I sure wish I had seen more of them back in the day. They are the best of the absolute best. There is no one like Poco for good music and good feelings.

  • Love this song. I'm 59 and still rockin "For Those Who Can't" Poco takes me back to better days. A great JJ Cale tune!

  • Fantastic !

  • This tune has touched my soul deeply since 1974.I am 51 years old and I feel the same way hearing it now as I did almost 40 years ago. I'll soon be there.

  • You've GOTTA LUV POCO!!!

  • If you thin Cale does it well go look at the vidio. Its emotionless.

Fantastic song. It's almost bizarre to me that Cale handles it so gingerly, so one-handedly, and can't seem to wrap his soul, voice and emotion around it the way Poco did, and everyone that's ever heard Poco's cover is so totally drawn in to it that it's like we wrote it ourselves...and Cale wrote it ?

  • Wow this is live folks and it sounds just like the in studio recording!!! I've heard other bands and when they try to play the songs live, not even close!!! I love this song!! the surfer1974

  • This version of Magnolia is outstanding.. The guitar work is spot on and the vocals are smooth. This rates way up there, sorry J.J. Cale Lovers.

  • JJ's version? On what level is this outstanding? Yer these guys can obviously play but that's not to say it's an outstanding version of JJ's song.

The song is a deeply personal and lonely song....there is no way this kind of set up can portray the spirit of this song. They give a great example of self indulgence but they get no where near the "song".

Anyhow, music is personal taste right?, so lets not go down that one.

  • I've never been to New Orleans but I love everything about it mostly from listening to Poco. I'd love to play pedal steel like Rusty Young. When are Poco coming to Australia?

  • god this is dull, i'm sure you are all aware but if not you should check out the original version of this song by j j cale and listen to it in all its rustic dusty glory, this is polished fluff in comparison.

  • @richiemannman of course it's polished. jJ's version is rougher but this version is outstanding.

  • The most beautiful song ever written. Magnolia,we've all known her. She brings a smile to our face and a tear to our eye.

Poco..It just doesn't get any better than this.

  • I still remember the kiss that took my breath away, the scent of your perfume, the touch of your hand, and the laughter. We laughed until we cried. I thought it would never end but I guess all good things come to an end. 07/29

  • Magic! Kaneh bosm!

  • Wonderful song..my Band and I have been performing this song since 1973...WHEU...how time passes..

  • You can't be from the South and not like this group and especially this song. This was Scott's all time favorite song. Last concert I went to in Ohio in 2004.

  • This was my husbands favorite all time song, He died 11 years ago, and everytime I hear this song I think of him and cry.

  • @mzsweetpearasb Such a beautiful sentiment to share! Thank You! My one thought is ~ everytime you hear it don't cry ~ put on that 'Mona Lisa' smile that god gifted us women with because it's a song that made your husband so happy! <3 DON'T CRY BECAUSE IT'S OVER ~ SMILE BECAUSE IT HAPPENED. My love to you!

  • @RoBabe1 I agree 100% - very nicely worded. I think everybody wants to be missed and still loved when they are gone.

Great version of the song as well.

  • wow that was great.... to me , the original will never be toppled, but geez, this is a tremendous version. takes it into a new space..

  • We just played a gig a couple weeks ago , and we played Magnolia, its suprising how many people havent heard that song, and when they hear it, they REALLY like it a lot.. There is something about that song that really gets to me and the rest of my band, and I think those feeling are projected when we play it.

  • I have to agree with Mr...racing. The great thing about Poco was that they were all about the music rather than satisfying the ego of any one of the members. That's the thing about harmony and true musicianship, It's about making something that enters into you through your ears and touches your heart and goes straight into your soul with no more intent than to satisfy.

  • one of my favorite songs.... I played this in Tuscaloosa Al in the 70's with an accositc band. We used to do a 3 part harmony at the end..(You're the best I ever had -over and over) What a good song.....

  • Rusty Young is the best steel player period...great vocals and Paul Cotton on guitar and vocals...pure magic...listen to Legand or the blue and the gray album...that is if you can still find the blue and the gray...nobody sounds like this!

  • memories...are we all gettin this old?

  • Comment removed

  • To The One That Truly Got Away...All these years later.....Tony, You Sweet Thing...You Drove Me/Us So Mad.... I'd Love to Get Back to You Babe, You're the BEST I Ever Had!

    Hope you're Happy!

  • @DreemOnMe, parallel memories, how funny, kinda takes your breath away. In a way I miss 1976, in a way I would go back for all the money in the world. I do wish music were now what it was then.

  • I just love the fact that Richie is on this with them. And George Grantham what can i say What a great backing voice to have back there.

  • so Ironic a generation that gave us this music, that fought for minority rights , destroyed our music in the process! think about !!

  • My all time favorite song, performed by my all time favorite band.

  • Every woman wants to be the best he's ever had...thank you JJ Cale.....Magnolia.

  • that is simply ONE BEAUTIFUL SONG, and it was performed so WELL. ! Nothing over-done, not to dramatic, not too loud. Just beautiful and tastefull. Wish more musicians had that kind of talent and dicipline.

  • @MrMonteCarloRacing I have to agree with Mr...racing. The great thing about Poco was that they were all about the music rather than satisfying the ego of any one of the members. That's the thing about harmony and true musicianship, It's about making something that enters into you through your ears and touches your heart and goes straight into your soul with no more intent than to satisfy.

  • Pedal steel players must play 3:42 over and over. Genius.

  • You like the "false" harmonics he does. He is UNREAL good. But, he has gotten old (unlike me). Check out his work with Poco and solo from the late 60's and 70's. A Music ANIMAL! All time.

People talk about Sneaky Pete, etc. I had the chance in college (late 70's) to get to know the steel guy from Captain Cody. I asked him one day--while tying to divert him from a coed friend of mine--"who's the best pedal steel player?"

He said, "Rusty Young, moron, don't bother me, man".

  • Sorry: Commander Cody------some sort of big deal, anyway

  • Such a sweet song to send me.....

  • Hate to admit how many times I have replayed this one.

Rust Young, Paul Cotton. So fine.

  • WOW!!!!

  • saw them the Friday night...this was excellent.....

  • The way Paul put the feel in " oh I miss you, miss you baby"...hell, he makes me miss her too...nothing better !!!!

  • He said... "One of the most beautiful songs JJ Cale ever wrote"... well excuse me it's one of the most beautiful songs anyone ever wrote!!!!

  • Bitchin'

  • Such soul pouring out of Paul and Rusty.

  • isn't Rusty just AMAZING on the steel?

  • I played this in 1971 in Tusloosa & Birmingham Al. with a 6 piece band.. This has been one of my ALL TIME favorites. We did bunch of Poco, America etc. Great Song. Glad to finally see them do it live.... Thanks for the video...

  • My band & I were doin' gigs in the south about that time too. We did a killer version of this. I dare say, it was one of our better cover songs. Our setup was the same as Poco, but we had TWO drummers. Sweet Thunder & days gone by...

  • I agree Doctor...amazing version of an amazing song. Wow :)

  • sometimes songs and the people that play them just can't possibly get any better...

  • Ya just cant beat Poco...Maybe JJ Cale wrote this and sang it? I am old er now and forget a few things but.......Oh, Sorry, Leon Russell perhaps?

  • Yep, it was JJ Cale. But Poco aced the best version of it... by far!

  • J.J. Cale is the bomb check out his Sensitive Kind .

John Mayall does one hell of a job with it.

  • @DoctorAxe the surfer1974 amen amen amen what a voice what musical talent!!!!

  • Wonderful version

  • Behold the great Rusty Young.

  • Actualy.I thought JJ Cale is the writer of this?

  • Indeed he is, just as Paul Cotton acknowledges at the song's beginning. The song has been covered by diverse artists, though I don't know that Leon did one, but I can sure hear it in my mind. My reference to Rusty Young is an homage to Poco's founding and immensely gifted member, Norman Russell Young, whose steel guitar chops have long been recognized as among the finest on the planet; this wonderful performance showcases them conspicuously. Enjoy!

  • the best ever......

  • Awesome!

  • This is the only song I would dance to when I first started going out to bars. There was a band in NE MS that was named Magnolia that played in TN. I loved this song then and still love it.... thanks

  • Actually Richie joins in for a couple of gigs every year now. And they've double billed with Jim Messina recently. I'm thinking 2008 is their 40th anniversary (wasn't 07 right). So, maybe it's going to be a special year tour-wise. Would be great to see George back on stage this year. I heard there was a possibility of him getting back on drums in early 08.

  • what a great band it was and what a great band it is. They were the best we ever had!

  • Forgot all about this song. Thanks for posting. Many memories

  • Saw them first in 1970. Always near my heart. Any chance you can post Indian Summer from the same concert? Thanks for Magnolia!

  • This proves to me, that your never "too old to make music". I can't say enough about Poco, since day one, and they're still sounding great. Rusty, I can't figure out how to email you, but you inspired me to become a steel player, and your one of the most underated players of our peers. Thankyou for your wonderful feeling, and playing, and promoting the steel guitar as much as you did. Marc Trainor.

  • Hey, who say's your too old to play? Holy Smokes!!!!, these guys sound as good here as they did when they were young. What a great song, great group, and Rusty--- I wish I could send you an email telling you how you've enspired my life, causing me to become a steel player with your wonderful feeling on the instrument. Your so underated, by our peers. I'll carry the torch for you till I die. Marc Trainor.

  • Paul's Voice, Guitar & The Song GENIUS

  • This is one of the most romantic songs I have ever heard. Thank you poco and thank you Kevin for sending it my way.

  • This one, heart of the night, crazy eyes, rose of cimarron... these guys had more great songs than any other band you never heard of. And what arrangements! Long form songs that would never get air time today...

    Where's my bourbon?

  • Masterful....love the steel guitar....vintage Poco/Cale.

  • Many videos from Keeping the legend alive DVD here.

Great song! Rusty is really great at steeleguitar!

  • A Masterpiece! This video proves the new line up of POCO can still do the song justice.

  • jsclemokie, in this video, is four-fifths of the band that did Magnolia on its original release in 73 (on Crazy Eyes). Rusty Young, Richie Furay, Paul Cotton, and George Grantham. Only Timothy B. Schmit, who was recruited by the Eagles to replace Randy Meisner in '77, is missing. And current bassist Jack Sundrud, shown here, is every bit the talent that Timmy is. But this was a one-time reunion for Richie, and Grantham had a stroke later that year. Yet, Poco still amazes on this song today.

  • Thanks Yokonono99 for the info on the lineup on that one! I'm a big fan of Timothy B. Schmit in general, but especially his work with Poco. Whenever Poco, or later the Eagles, would come out with a new release, I would always peruse it for the Timothy B. songs. I did this just recently with The Eagles "Long Road Out Of Eden." I like Timothy's "I Don't Want to Hear Anymore" although it is a little reminiscent of "I Can't Tell You Why" in it's execution.
