  • I just found a set for 2.50 brand new at the thrift store score!!!!! I didn't even know what it was just bought it cuz its glittery and i thought i could use it w nail polish

  • Pearl Ex is an ART MATERIAL not a cosmetic. While it is non-toxic it is manufactured in an art material factory - very different environment than a cosmetic manufacturer. (at least one would hope) Just keep in mind - Elmer's glue is labeled non-toxic, too!

  • Joann's Fabric has a set of 32 for $41, thanks for the tip i am going to try it cuz I spend $30 on 2 eye shadows at Ulta

  • @lbcrazypop don't forget to look for a coupon from Joann's because sometimes there's a 40% off or 50% off coupon, which will save you some money. My experiences with Joann's is that you can use multiple coupons for multiple products. Also make sure you use an eyeshadow primer to get a great color payoff.

  • I use this stuff for crafting! Never thought to use it for make up! All the crafting community have known about this stuff for years!

  • I got Series 1 and Series 2 PearlEx at Michaels for $25 with at 50% off coupon. This is great stuff!

  • @nbenton2 Now THAT'S what I am talkin' about! I will be glad when they get Series 3. It has more colors with a repeat of 2 colors I believe Pearl White & a Gold. Awesome because you can mix them and get some other colors.

  • hi what is a eye primer, any brands to reccommend??

  • @esthercraft...eye primer most likely contains waxes, polymers, and/or silicones. These substances can form a bond with other cosmetics, causing the shadows to stay on longer than it normally would. It can help colors to appear as their truer color and stop any creasing on the lids.

  • @shooaholic Several items can be used as a primer concealer. My favorites are Micabella, if you can find a kiosk in your mall, if not order online at micabella's website, expensive though; very popular one UDPP or Urban Decay Potion Primer more reasonably priced. HTHs.

  • I found these at fred meyers for 2.00 in alaska and ya I only bought one because I was hesitent but I've been resreaching and I'm going back to get more!!! :)

  • You better! That is a STEAL of a price...If it was me, I'd purchase EVERY SINGLE COLOR. Heck, I'd find some use for it!

  • @hoppyhugs ahh! I've totally never seen these up here! Was it at a Fred Meyer in Anchorage?

  • @alis0nhick3y yes!!! on abbott. over in the craft section there is a rack full of them right by the paint its a little hard to find and they are all individual not in packs of 12 or anything

  • @hoppyhugs okay cool, thanks!! I totally need to get some!

  • @alis0nhick3y its totally worth it! hope you find them they are kinda at eye level.... in the same aisle as the sewing stuff good luck!

  • @hoppyhugs thanks! I'm gonna look for them today! (:

  • So, this video is over a year old now. Do you still use these, and do you still like them?

  • yes and yes.

  • WOW WEEEE! Thanks girl! I am using my Joann Fabric's 40% off coupon...Hopefully they carry Pearl EX! Love your videos! oh yeah can you suggest a brand of primer?

  • That coupon will truly come in handy!

  • P.S. Oh wow, I had never thought to use water before, will have to try now! I guess I didn't think the colors could get any more vibrant. Thanks for the tip ^_^

Companies like MAC and Micabella are in trouble when it becomes common knowledge how much better and CHEAPER PearlEx is (I mean, the cost difference is INSANE and I actually prefer PearlEx)

  • I've been using these for years, love 'em!

Great video, one thing you didn't cover (dunno if it was bc you thought it was common sense of just didn't think to) is how mixable the pigments are!

They blend just like any other pigment (R+Y=O) It takes a little bit of shaking to get them well mixed, but they blend perfectly! With a basic set, you can make ANY color, which makes it great for when you want a hard-to-find custom color or to tone down the brighter shades for everyday use.

    ~Callie

  • Callie...NOW THAT's WHAT I'M TALKIN' about! helping one another out. I didn't cover that. I want to thank you for bringing it up. I took that for granted. FANTABULOUS Tip!

  • is it all the same ingredients as eyeshadow or just the mica ingredient??

  • Not a chemist, but from my personal research, the ingredients in eyeshadows and these powders are similar. My ONLY suggestion for ANYONE, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. Through my own personal research, I am comfortable using it for me. You should find in doing your own research that, all eyeshadows are NOT created equally. I am not a natural nazi, but, I do try to get as close as possible. Don't forget to do your own research.

  • hmmm...ok well thankyou!!

i will try to do my own research..i cant find the ingredients for pearl ex anywhere though??? i guess i will call and ask them..thankyou!

  • I no longer have the box. I know that I called the company from the toll free number that was on the box. I am sure if you google pearl ex pigments, you should find the company's phone number. When I called, the lady was very helpful. You can also ask for an MSDS sheet. I no longer have the one I had either.

  • Although it's non-toxic I would be concerned about putting that on your eyes, some colorants out there will harm you. Can cause blindness and/or mildly toxic if swallowed. A rich bright blue color for example only comes in toxic colors that are harmful and may cause liver disease when injested.

The non-toxic label only refers to non-toxic when touched. It does not cover eyes or mouth.

You should check FDA approved colorant listings FIRST

  • You have a valid point. That's is why folks can make up there own minds if they choose to use them or not, in the way they choose to. In MY own personal research, and looking into the make up of the colors, I am personally comfortable in using them on myself.

  • they sure have gone up here 27.99

  • What do you do/use to ensure staying power. It sdoesn't seem to last long when I put it on and it's hard to stick. I have to put on several times. Thanks for the info.

  • Not only for these but also for my expensive eyeshadows I use an eye primer. One of the most popular ones is Urban Decay Primer Potion (UDPP). Personally I prefer Micabella. Mary Kay Cosmetics has a good one too.

  • These really are great! You can get 32 colors off of JoAnn's website for less than $50, shipping included, if you use the coupon they provide. I've never had any problems with irritation, but if anybody is worried, just test a tiny bit on the corner of one eye and see how that goes. Anything'll irritate your eye if you actually get it in your eyes! =P And if you add water, these are much more vibrant and cost-effective than MAC pigments.

  • I actually work at Michaels, been there for over a year, and yesterday was the first time I ever saw these Pearl Ex pigments. And now being really into make-up, I got really excited! It was $27.99 for the set. And I love it! Thanks for the video, I feel better about using it.

  • I know right! Have fun with them.

  • WOW...thanks I see Pearl Ex at the craft stores all the time...I guess I should start reading more...LoL

  • Next time you're at the art supply store, check out the sable watercolor brushes. There are some that make excellent blending brushes for eyeshadow.

  • I will check them out. Thanks a bunch for the tip. I will save some money and once I purchase a few, I will let you know how they worked out for me.

  • I had seen these in Michael's craft store and wasn't too sure..so I decided to come home and do the research online...Now I see they can be used for makeup usage..Wasn't too happy about MAC Pro Store..they don't give out free samples of their pigments...boneheads..lol..just moisturizers only...I guess people were abusing the pigment free sample and had to stop it...

  • I sell art supplies, and had never thought to check if they were safe for makeup use. Makes perfect sense.

  • I buy a lot of art supplies (love to paint). I was soooooo shocked and I had been sitting on these colors for years. Speaking of art supplies, I even purchase things for my knitting & crochet needles too.

  • Wow! Thanks so much for the heads up!!!

  • No prob girlie! Glad I can help. So far, it's been working great.

  • Your hair looks great, what technique did you use on it?

  • My apologies, I should have mentioned it in the video...afterall, that's what brought me to youtube. To answer your question, it did a twist out with perm rods on the ends.

  • loving the green

I love the turnout with water!

    AMAZING

I knew about it and I talked about it a few months ago! lol

  • oooooo girl! You are one of those folks I was talkin' about when I said you should be ashamed of yourselves for NOT sharing this well kept secret with the world. Well, girlfriend I am tellin' everyone who'll listen. Since it's been so long since I purchased my sets...I am gonna hit the art store up to see if I am missing some colors! ;D
