The A has the best look and sound of any Hammond. With these features added it becomes the ultimate organ. Maybe waterfall keys would top it off. I know why they made a 'new B3', but an A would be cooler.
Nice playing Nathan. Keep on keeping it real.BTW what number is that A?
Goes to show what a bit of restoration can do on an old Hammond. Incredible sound and really admire your playing style. Great job! Percussion sounds great, finally got mine working again on my A100. Keep 'em coming!
Sounds great! Was that the one you were restoring? Is that Trek percussion kit you are using? The finish looks nice as well..... spray job presumably?
@Peter0656 Yup Trek percussion. The A's tone generator goes down farther and has a brighter top end than your typical Hammond, so the percussion comes out very loud and crisp. Same deal with the sting bass, the extra lower octave give you a deeper bass than you'd get on a B3.
@Organgrinder010 - yes I do love the bottom and top on my Model AB. I am planning to eventually add percussion to that too but attempt to use M3 switches mounted in a slide-out tray underneath, rather than replace the original cheek block.
@Organgrinder010 Okay, I am missing something. Is the bass on the B3 supposed to sound like a string base or is there a setting and what are the other tonal, tube differences between the A and B models. Great job as always.
@MetaraonShadow The string bass unit takes the pedal tone wheels and adds pluck and sustain (variable). The main differences between the model A and B3 are: The A has a whole octave lower bass tone wheels, brighter top end, no manual tapering, and the obvious lack of scanner and percussion. However, the model A's are much better built on the inside, use better components, and are louder and fuller in tone. The original two-tube preamp is much louder and fuller than the AO-28.
Sound quality is none too shabby. I've heard much worse on youtube. Great playing, makes me want to get my hands on a classic Hammond and then learn to play the thing. They just sound so awesome.
that is a rig Lenny Dee would be extremely happy to play.
a very long time ago, i drove Earl Grant's crazy tricked-out A from Oakland to Peoria IL in a rusting 1987 Ford Aerostar. it had the period version of these attachments, a Vibrachord, and neon lights in the keys. it was wrapped in naugahyde and was incredible yet non-functional.
@suitandtieguy Wow that's quite a feat. I don't remember from where, but I've heard/read stories about that particular organ. The neon under the keys is very interesting! I love the A's, I can't ever see myself wanting anything else.
Sweet! Any chance you could get hold of a Novachord any time soon? I'd love to hear you play one of those.

@Denvermorgan2000 Thanks! More to come in the future. I really wanna get some decent mics on this setup, to really show what an A can do.

@MetaraonShadow Basically, you can make an A sound like a B3 if you wanted... but you could never make a B3 sound as full and deep as an A.
