The basic premise is that a Mr. Hightower, the owner of the hotel, brought back from his travels an evil idol. The idol is what screws with you on the ride. The reason for the story change is that Japan never watched The Twilight Zone, so they'd have no frame of reference.

American English speaker so I don't know what they're saying but I get the storyline, and now I'm glad I'm riding the California version where the only scary thing that happens is you fall. That Idle gives me the willies!

wow this is really scary, I'm fifteen, I've been in California's Tower of Terror once (and ONLY once) and the intro wasn't scary (neither were the bellhobs, or bellhops{i think they're actually funny}) but the ride made me tear up and got so scared I'm not even gonna take the elevator anymore, and if i ever been on THIS ride.....O_O'

no more elevators for me for eternity.....

Overall, in my prospective Tokyo DisneySeas TOT, is waaay better than Paris, WDW, or California. The Massive details in every corner give the feel that you are actually in 1899 when the Shiriki Utundu made Mr. Hightower dissapear... The artifact chamber( which is the boiler room in the other parks), is SOOOO realistic. :D

@mervinchoa90 Basically, you're on a tour of the hotel, and the tour guide decides to play the last recording of Harrison Hightower for you. His ghost ends up interrupting the tour and warns you of the curse that ultimately killed him and trapped his spirit in the hotel to relive that night over and over for all eternity. It's pretty dark if you go dig further into the back story, because Hightower is quite an asshat of a person and rightly deserved what he got.
