Thanks so much for these videos! I'm taking a Human Nature class in university and the prof just skimmed over Neitzche, and of course, Fred makes up 30% of my exam :p
thank you wtsbqm...we too shall be quite mad (acronym for wtsbqm) lol !!! no, really seriously i appreciate your imparting your teaching by way of the youtube professeur!
i too am naive as i long to see my grandparents and children again after ive died, i hope but i cannot believe, i hope because its what id like , it doesnt mean im religious , its a human emotion, to miss loved ones, maybe its a reason we invented gods and religion , to deliver on the hope. but hope is all it is...as no ones ever come back to say otherwise..
at the end of the day, people believe in this god and that god cos theyve been conditioned to do so from birth, blind leading blind, one thing all people in the modern world worship is money and capital wealth, we are such hypocrits, we dont even know how to help our fellow man, its easier to hate i suppose.
What Nietzsche realized was that the quest of the Enlightenment to make Man the measure of Everything, would lead to the question "Which Man" He rightly saw that Hegels idea of the State would lead to authoritarianism, a prophecy that came true in both Communism and Nazism. So the tragedy of Nietzche is that he is tarred with exactly the thing he opposed...
His work is about freeing man from constraints to be fully Human in the positive sense of self empowerment.
Die Uebermensch...the next step in Human evolution...the evolution of the spirit-mind-consciousness-rather than a physical evolutionary step. This is of course possible giving that we are undergoing a modern selection event unfortunately the modern social/political events are selecting for a more mundane man.
modern life with its noise, alienation and coarseness the developing world with its hideousness and ugliness, I do not see where it is coming from.. maybe Ireland or Iceland
On the contrary, Nietzsche would rather embrace life, and say YES to life. You missed the whole point of this study. The 'Will to Power' was all about self-mastery. To internalize everything humanly possible. To embrace every experience and learn from it, no matter how good or bad. The 'Will to Power' was exactly a self-therapy to NOT wallow in one's own misery. To be brave enough to live a life that one wanted to live. Or, at least die in trying.
As with the others, I'd like to reiterate my thanks for this wonderful documentary, along with my impassioned (yet still ever-grateful) plea for the rest (and perhaps the Heidegger and Sartre parts, too)!! Thanks again!!
Reg Hollingdale you look awfully familiar, I do believe I've seen your likeness gracing large statues in Eastern Europe.

Isolation like John, Neitzsche seemed to bring a new understanding. I like that.

I guess maybe I wasn't clear enough...that was kind of my point...the modern world is selecting for a mundane man rather than a better man.

He knew how to suck the joy out of life and wallow in his own misery, poor man.

Nice ..but I dont like this illustrative videos showing Nietzsche as a broken..lonely..suffering man.
I know that there was much more light in him..so much light that no one could stand close!
