Speaking as a music fan (and PAYING customer of the industry), I've got to say Gene is way off base here. From my observation, the greatest injuries done to the industry were self-inflicted- It's bad enough that radio stations and MTV won't play anything that deviates from a constrained playlist (That's poor marketing at its worst!)...but people will only put up with price gouging, poor quality products & being treated like criminals for so long before they finally snap and say no more.
