That take off was fantastic! I've sat in the cockpit of one of these, only then do you realise how big they really are; and how small it is inside!!!!
A team of air cadets from 1122 (Marmion) Squadron ATC will be cycling 30 miles on the 12th of June, from their squadron HQ to DCAE Cosford in Shropshire to raise money for XH558 - you can help support them here! -

The 'Howl' you describe was caused by air passing through the intakes at full power - hence it was louder in front of the aircraft. I can tell you that standing under a vulcan at max RPM on the ERP (Engine Running Platform) at Scampton made your eyeballs rattle - and probably accounts for the fact that now, at age 60, I suffer from Tinitus. (Vulcan groundcrew 1968 - 1974)
jet engines make sound waves. Any Noise is essentially air pressure. jet engines if you didnt know, create several thousand tonnes of air pressure by shoving it out the back.... thats how they work lol.......i think its obvious why they are noisy lol
The power of a Vulcan is truly amazing. It can perform miracles. It seems it can enable the 'halt and the lame' to get up and walk. There is an empty wheelchair visible.
roller olympus engines......unmistakeable howl. basically the pre cursors to the 593's used in another legend: concorde. :-) XH558 never flew at waddington this year. no air safety certificate for the show, couldnt get one on the weekend. apparently my old man said it was still there as of today, obviously it cant go anywhere til it receives its papers
It can still fly anywhere, still has its air certificate, but couldnt perform at the airshow. It left for another show couple of days later but was grounded there too! This time coz of the weather I think
the engines do not make the howl... it is the vibrations from the engines that vibrate at the same frequency as the air intake's natural frequency which causes the sound, not the engines themselves.
Starts at 0:34.

I remember back in 1982 when a vulcan returning from a bombing mission on Falklands had technical problems and made an emergency landing on Rio.
My father and i traveled four hours to see it.
It was still carrying one shrike anty radar missile under one wing.
It is a classical aircraft thanks for the video !
