It takes about 1 hour for me to bike from one side of Barrie to the other (looked on a map and I was on the other half of the city) it not a very big city, but I really like downtown for all the small businesses that only have one location...my favorite store in Barrie that isnt a chain is village meats...yum
always go through here on way and back form Wasaga Beach, love it, have all the restaurants, good hotels and what not, but Iunno about living up there, but being there for a week is pretty sick, a treat for a city slicker like me
@rusha1265 the quality of life all depends on where you live, in my opinion. Heavy traffic on the weekends and rush hour gets pretty bad. only one shopping mall so there will be lots of people in it on weekends. a plus is that it is close to the GTA and all of its amenities. The wealth of the city is middle class. Alot of transients live in the downtown. Not very diverse population either. so there are some restaurants from different cultures. but doesn't compare to Toronto.
Barrie is different from the cities like Toronto and Montreal. It nice, couple good restaurants. There's a nice vietnames restaurant where the food is delicious and not very pricy! Cannot remember the name right now, but that's where we are going to right now.

Actually the Barrie Speedway is in Oro-Medonte, east of Barrie just like the Toronto Airport is really in Mississauga. The winters bite unless you ski. Despite the one shot, there's not really any skiing here either. Just outside the city, however, Snow Valley, Horsesh!t Valley, I mean, HorseSHOE Valley, yucky winter fun.

if it ever cleans up its downtown, builds tall condos rather than houses, improves its transit, constructs a sports venue or stadium that can hold more than 10 000 people, or uses park place for something other than commercial use, than maybe it would be a good city.
