  • I see they were still using jointed rail back in '87. I thought they were welding rail by that time.

  • Live in Jersey, you guys in the west don't know how lucky you are !!! South Jersey does not not compare with western railroading. I have never even seen a train with a helper yet !!!!!!

  • a caboose wow thats rare

  • Always nice to see some Rio Grande in it's hey day. Just curious, did you shoot that with a beta camera?

  • Nope, A Panasonic VHS camcorder that I own to this day. I don't use it very often though.

  • West Portal Moffat Tunnel

  • really awesome, will always miss the D&RGW.

  • Even though the Grande had not bought the SP yet, railroad's still had cabooses in "pool" service, meaning that railroad's shared cabooses on trains, this train probable came from SLC or Ogden, Utah., that's where it would have picked up the SP caboose. Hope that helped. Also, interesting to see a EOT on the on the caboose! Great vid...would have been nice to see the gyralight going!

  • ok that's weird, why does a DRGW train have an SP caboose on the rear end?

  • @ljones1111 D&RGW and SP merged

  • @strangledparrot

    i thought the merger wasn't till 1989?

  • @ljones121 not sure, i read in Trains that it was 1988 just now.
