Why aren't there any cities from the former Yugoslavia available... I mean, Budapest and Athens are available and some cities in Italy as well, but what's with the former Yugoslavia. You could add Zagreb or Belgrade or Ljubljana... I don't see why not.
I think I will just wait 10 years when google earth will probably look like crysis. and hopefully one day you will be able to download all of google earth (I Don't care if it's 10000 terabytes) I am just tired of waiting 15 minutes for an image to load. (stupid 100kb/s a second)
It would appear that you can only build models for certain preselected cities that Google has placed on a pick list. Someone let me know if I am wrong about this, but it appears that if you do not live in one of those large cities on the list, you cannot make a model of your community.
Only certain locations are available because they need multiple aerial images from different angles of the location. Hopefully more will be available soon...
@BIGBROTHERiswatchinU "Modeling Guide" .pdf document, which explains the process of photographing your building and then using Google Sketchup and other tools to create the model. I'm new to this realm, but believe that the Google Building Maker is simply a tool to quickly automate the creation of models and then add them to Google Earth. However, it requires viewing the photo in Google Earth to work.
@BIGBROTHERiswatchinU Finally, using the manual model-creation techniques instead of Building Maker allows for greater freedom, flexibility and accuracy in designing life-like appearing models, as long as basic design rules are followed (file size, number of polygons, properly representing the building dimensions, etc.). I hope this helps answer your inquiry.
You're free to use Google Earth and Sketchup to create a structure. Then you can add it to the Warehouse; it might get accepted to be part of Google Earth's building library.
I found that if I constrain only the absolutely best visible points that the model building is easier and seems to be more accurate. I agree with mdbrazilian; it would be far better for Google to give us access to the aerial imagery and let us use Sketchup to model. I tried to improve one of my models in SU, but not having the imagery makes it impossible to do. Each block I created in BuildingMaker has its own texture, so it can't be used in SU when I merge blocks into a single block.
It's quite hard to make those buildings. I tried to make one random in Budapest and it was quite hard. I'm a little sad though that it's not that many cities that have been included.
I have made a number of models already. It's easy to do, but it is a bit fiddly at times. I wish that I had more control over things but perhaps that will come in time. I also wish I knew where to send feedback because I have a number of ideas and questions for the Buildingmaker team.
One frustrating thing that happens is that when I am working on one part of a model, it can have negative effects on other parts of the model. Maybe that's just me using the tool incorrectly, but I'm not sure.
@SpongebobDI LET'S YOU work for "us" IF you desire. Nobody makes anyone do a thing. The public is who benefits here...(that's you and I). I also think you can opt out of any tedious work they are bombarding with. It's somewhere in one of those contract clauses.
Let us praise Google. O Google... ...Ooh, You are so big... ...So absolutely huge. Gosh, we're all really impressed down here, I can tell You. Forgive us, O Google, for? this, our dreadful toadying, And barefaced flattery. But You are so strong and, well, just so super. Amen.
after that... we need an google earth plugin for flight simulator!!! just imagine how cool that could be with nvidia vision!?? cruising on a high altitude and just make an dive into a city block
Google will make the "best" model the official model, so if yours is more detailed and accurate, it will be chosen. I agree with you about the Copy/Paste command. Some buildings have several A/C units on them, all the same...why should you have to model all of them? Model one of them, Copy/Paste and position all of the rest. Maybe it's a feature to be found in future versions.
"One frustrating thing that happens is that when I am working on one part of a model, it can have negative effects on other parts of the model... etc."
No, this thing really happens .
Other tools such as circle n arc are also missing. How to make a round roof? Only in SU this is possible.
Would be easier to have the aerial images of the Building Maker and use the SU to model them. this would be much faster.
Duh. How big a staff would they need to model all the buildings in the world? This is the only way to do it. Plus, by having users do it, they're sure that whatever buildings the users want first, *will* come first - Google doesn't have to decide where to start. And why complain, it's still free to use. Making a building or two isn't going to ruin you.
...and the best thing is - it´s FREE ...for Google.
Why hire people when there is a lot of simple minded web surfer out there who are thrilled to do the job for free. The day will come when YOUR job is done for free by some one else!

Google 'choose a model' for me in "Building Maker", when I clicked in "View", I saw that this same model already exist in GE layer. Is it a fail?
I wasted my time in my 1st model. I prefer Google SU to building.
But I have a tip: Where is the function (Copy and Paste)?
