All this is fine and impressive..maybe a decent workout but almost worthless in real life situations.Strenght, size and raw power wins everytime and more than that the ability to take hits without falling apart.Ask yourself this..if your life was in danger and you could have one bodyguard who would you take? the enlightened kung fu master or some towering bad ass power dynamo that is used to take hits like nothing?Thats why in ultimate fights you dont see stuff like that. They wont survive a sec.
@Perdoct Well thats your problem right there...you look for someone that...sounds goods or....looks like he is good but the reality is usually different.if iam stronger and more conditioned than someone else..ill kick his ass 9 times out of ten whatever bullshit he is using. If he kicks my ass it wont be cause of his style but cause he is already stronger and faster .That is real life for you.Leave your pc and step into it..you might learn something.
@Dreamdancer11 Be careful. Chen TaiJi incorporates full body strength. A kind of full body strength that people aren't used to. When TaiJi masters like CXW get this type of strength, it doesn't matter how big or strong somebody is. This is no non sense and this is as basic as an application gets in TaiJi Quan. This is as basic as it gets. You must not know how deep this martial art is. I do. Because I practice it. And when one practices enough, you can't be defeated.
@dekal1 Mate none of these guys would realistically survive in a cage full kontakt fight..he would be overpowered and into submission or..worse sooner or later.Thats why you dont see or wont see anyone of these guys right here winning a cage fight....
@Dreamdancer11 Once again, I don't think you under stand the underlying power of this art and the profound philosophy on proper body mechanics. A master like CXW would handle a ring fight very easily.
@Dreamdancer11 This martial art is deeply rooted in grappling. It has a lot of single leg takedowns and it has single leg take down defense and double leg take down defense. A lot of the power in this art comes from the joints and tendons and not so much muscle. I'm afraid you are overlooking the potential of this art.
@dekal1 I am not a fun of cages and i dont think that is something to compare with but there is a truth in dreamcatcer words. The modern systems use explosives hits and combos.they dont stay in a place and certainly they dont extent their hands and keep them straight.Perhaps if u reach a level after 30 years could manage but till then u r valrenable.I practice myself in wing chun and i feel also that i need many years to "pass" the art in my body.
put this old fart or any of his finest student in the ring and see how long he will last, these so call master never fight any body in their life before. yeah, sure practice for enlightment bull shit.
Sure it is. If you cannot fight in a control environment ie ring fighting, how can you be any good at real fighting like you mentioned; I assume that you meant no rule fighting. These guys are conditioned to the max, if they can fight in the ring like that, imagine if you let them fight without any rules.
chen xiaowang just demonstrated all of the eneregies/jin of taiji,peng,lu,ji,an,zhou,kao,cai,lie.8 jin and he showed as dafa, nafa, chin na fa and shui fa,hitting, grabbing, joint lock and take down. Each form has all these possibilities. So in taiji there are many applications to the same form,in this case the form wa Jin gang dao dui, buddha's warrior attendant pounds the mortar!
I actually have been taught by a martial artist/physicist for 20 years and know how to hit internally and can take someone out with one punch to the chest but the shoulder hits that Chen Xiaowang is doing is not impressive at all. Even if he had real power. He is using his "center" because he does not know how to use his hand correctly..
"which i can tell he does not understand where power comes from" his big build up is total a waste and he could never even hit someone who was aware with it.
He pushed him so soft in the beginning but when he went back, after that he grabbed his solar plexis like it was hurting. I mean, you can see it in his face.
@CLFDevil Bruce lee talked a lot of crap, perhaps to compensate for his pretty ordinary martial skills or prehaps to hype himself up to his Hollywood buddies
I found Wu Suan So's statement quite interesting. If I understand correctly what is mainly being said is that its not so much the art itself which has lost but the mind set of secrecy which has harmed the integrity and spread of the art. Forms practice, although very important, can not be separated from function. Function is the meaning of the form and the practical application, ironically one's form can not be good unless we know the function.
You´re mainly right, however, when you practice the form every day for a long time, maybe a few years, you will also make big improvements in terms of power and rooting development. You can apply the gained body structure to anything you do.Just wanted to add that.
@CLFDevil in the old days lei tai had no rules. no weight class even killing was allowed. if you look famous lei tai fighters in wikipedia there was a person by the name wong yan lin who either maimed or killed his opponent
@CLFDevil When you're done with your project, please drop me a line to let me know. I'd love to pay your website a visit, and possibly give you some feedback ;-)
@CLFDevil Since it's still prevalent today, I'd say "Modern Mess" is more accurate. Good luck with your project. I'm a huge fan of Kungfu, especially Taichi. I, too, want to see kungfu REGAINS its true status in the MA world, whether in the ring or outside of it.
@CLFDevil You're looking at an utmost failure of adapting to modern age by the CMA masters. They still prefer the lengthy (even secretive) way of training with too much emphasis on forms and little on practical applications. Bruce Lee figured out the new way of training kungfu, but his untimely death resulting in, pathetically, Chinese going back to the old training methods, while the rest of the world embraces Lee's ideas, run with them and leave the Chinese well behind. Ironic, isn't it?
@CLFDevil If you watch most instructional videos on application techniques, be it for muay thai, kickboxing, kung fu, korean martial arts, karate, when they teach the application of one technique tehy always have a dummy person who just throws one punch and gets the move applied to. It's just an effective way of teaching. So just cause that's how it's done here doesn't take away from it...
It would be great to see this stuff in a fight. I'll try it out next sparring session ;-)
A 60kg Taijin practitioner should be able at least to deliver the punching power of an over 100kg world class boxer if not more.
Condition:
Taijin practitioner must also train in the specific Qigong meditation for punching power, weigh exercise and routine punching bag exercises under good instructor for 5 years.
I will post the video soon.
But that doesn't mean he can win a mma fight. Punching power is only 1% of the spectrum.
@chentaichiacademy i wouldn't call them "idiots," maybe more like unenlightened, or ignorant, or unaware. I mean at one point we all doubted the efficiency of Taiji, right? But ya, I'm pretty impressed by it's true essence. Unfortunately not many Tai Ji practicioners really know/practice the applications besides just push-hand drills :-/
This is a cop out. If you can't fight within the rules of UFC, I wouldn't hold out much hope for you once your opponent is allowed to fight dirty.
It's a lot easier for somebody who can already grapple and strike to adapt to eye-gouging & ball kicks, than it is to go the other way.
That said I actually think Chen style would work within the rules of MMA and could be a valid part of a fighter's training. I've seen an example of Chen Bing grappling competitively, and he was pretty good.
But really Cecil can a competitor claim to be representing chen tai chi if 1/2 to 2/3 of the art is banned?
It is not that I think a chen stylist would have trouble with the striking and grappling. I think they would have to think hard about what was allowed and it would slow them down. Alternatively you would see the opponent drop and the chen stylist get disqualified when they use an actual fighting technique in the sporting arena.
No, you're talking out your ass. I've seen tai-chi guys fight in san-da and MMA and do pretty well.
To my knowledge though none of them have reached the level of fighting in the big leagues like UFC, but I think this is down to the relatively few practitioners that do full contact tai-chi - the smaller talent pool means there's less chance of a contender appearing.
The rules have nothing to do with it. You're just making up excuses.
The san-da and MMA rules create a specific framework that tai chi has to be adapted to in order to compete. People listed as tai chi fighters in this context are really doing a modified tai chi like art. The specialties of the style are gone thus it cannot be said to be actual tai chi.
Its not like just a few things are banned whole categories of adaptation are just gone.
cecil your right .tai chi is supposed to be free flowing and adaptable to anything, so a good practitioner can alternate what there doing to deal with what's in front of them thats what tai chi is about and if these guys are that good of a level they don't really need to think. your allowed to punch people in the head body etc so whats stopping them so many people look good doing tai chi but in the real world can rarely back it up. no one wants to lose face especially not tai chi teachers
@CecilTerwilliger The problem might not be so much that it's Dirty fighting, but if a true punch with claims of full qi were to land on the chest it might do some permanent damage to the organs? I don't know I 'm just theorizing here since I'm not a practicioner really... just from what Tai Chi people seem to say...
dude if you watch Chen Xiaowang & Chen Ziqiang chen says that if you have that certain all directions defence stance the basic boxing stance and use it. it should make you invincible to what ever comes your way. so technically you could still do the tai chi in ufc and not have to worry about breaking the rules. its simple the chinese are the ones who gave us this and they don't want to be seen losing to a foreign fighter thats a fact. where as the west just take what works & discards what dont

Peace and Blessings be with you all, the secret of a true man of power is evident here... its balance... inner grounding and outer harmony will enhance the spiral movement of inner power from the tops of ones head to the bottom of the feet... one becomes as inspired as electricity... its a truly divine attribute of power... the source of all power can dress it upon a human being whose clarity of perception is pure and intention is focused on that higher power... beyond words... and rare to see
Here's the master showing many applications for one move. What an amazing display of martial variety. Combine the applications with years of internal kung fu, and you have one of the fiercest styles of fighting around. The beauty if Taijiquan is that one can do the strenuous internal training for conditioning, and take - with proper instruction - that training into the martial sphere, if desired. What an *amazing* martial art!

What an *amazing* martial art!
