The fanfic did first appear before this episode had been aired, so it wasn't inspired by the episode. But not the other way around either, since all of season 1 was good as done before even the first episode was aired.

Also, the creators of the show can't even read fanfics of the show for copyright reasons. Fanfics take the original characters from the show all the time, which could have legal consequences if the creators and Hasbro actually decided to bother about it.
