This game was sold - by Konami - as the origin of the Castlevania series. So we pay for a Castlevania game...then be told "oh, by the way what we sold you isn't actually a castlevania game...". Then they release another "origin" game on the PS2...are they sure this time or once again do we hear "oh, by the way..."?

Which I thought it was stupid to erase the entire story of Sonia Belmont just because of that little bloodline crossing. If anything, they could have just made a remake which includes Sonia's love interest being Alucard, BUT in the end she ends up marrying or having a child with someone else since Alucard doesn't want to stain the Belmont blood with his own, leading to him breaking up with Sonia. See? Easy fix! But Nooo! they just wiped her out completely!
You know, if Legends was canon, that would mean that the Belmont line would be half vampires and pretty much becomes a "He who fights monsters" scenario. That and Trevor would be fighting along side his father in CV3.

One reason Sonia doesn't really work is because if Trevor was indeed her and Alucard's son, the Vampire Killer motif would seem kind of...lame seeing how they have Vampire blood in them. If she married another man and had Trevor with him, that's fine.

IGA (Koji Igarashi) the producer of the Castlevania franchise places Leon as the first Belmonst, coming a few centuries prior to Leon. Therefore, it fits. Gabriel Belmont begins a new SL.

Why not before Trevor? She could have been in the 1370's, that would make sense. Also, I think Lisa was killed before 1450.
Also, Castlevania 3 says the Belmonts have been exiled. I think vampiriv genes are a good reason to exile someone, in the eyes of the medieval people, that were mostly simpletons. Also, a woman with superhuman strength could be reason enough in those patriarchal years.

Furthermore the vampire killer whip would likely perform less efficiently (or at least differently) if wielded by a woman considering it's key ingredient is the soul of a woman who was in love with the first male of that line to use the whip.

It was really just IGA's decision to retcon Sonia from the timeline after he took over the Castlevania franchise with SotN. I attribute his decision to his extreme fondness of Castlevania 3 and Trevor Belmont specifically. He likely didn't want his favorite Belmont to be de-throned as "the first."

@Laveticus It's not canon because it makes no sense for Alucard to not only look like his SOTN incarnation but to have a relationship with Sonia only to be evil and meet with trevor later and be good again and have two instances where he is fighting his father, and having the one in legends take place before his mother's death. No... just, NO, it breaks the timeline, that's why it's not canon.
@Laveticus They supposedly decided to do this because LoI contradicts Sonia being the first Belmont to confront Dracula, however if you think about it in LoI Leon reached and killed Walter he never actually fought Dracula (he only exchanged words). I think it was removed because Iga didn't like the game, though they probably intend on putting a game in between 1094 and 1450 (they already did if you count the arcade/pachinco machines).

@DanceofGold I just think it's so fitting that Dracula's own power becomes his undoing. Like it betrayed him and I find this so much more epic! Also, it explains as to why the Belmont men don't need to drink blood. Her holy power and being human was enough to still keep them more human themselves. With still being able to harness there strength, kinda like Blade.

I perfectly agree. I still fit Legends into the timeline, but I do my own bit of retcon only on 2 events. 1: The 'Dracula' Sonia defeated wasn't the real count. That keeps it open for Trevor to remain the Belmont that first killed Dracula. 2: Alucard was never romantically involved with Sonia and thus not Trevor's father.

I really thought Trevor waz cool too and an appropriate son to Sonia, considering he's blonde as well. One reason Sonia doesn't really work is because if Trevor was indeed her and Alucard's son, the Vampire Killer motif would seem kind of...lame seeing how they have Vampire blood in them. If she married another man and had Trevor with him, that's fine.

IGA (Koji Igarashi) the producer of the Castlevania franchise places Leon as the first Belmonst, coming a few centuries prior to Leon. As Sonia, nor Leon, ever actually killed Dracula (Sonia beat him, but didn't destroy him), that means that Trevor was still the first man to kill Dracula... to actually force Dracula to be resurrected. Therefore, it fits. Gabriel Belmont begins a new SL.

@asmodeus58XX They do not have vampire blood, though, and it makes no sense for Alucard to already be against his father before his mother is killed, only to turn evil again and be good during Castlevania 3. Alucard should not be in legends. If he wasn't, and if Sonia was placed in a different timeline and not before trever then 'maybe' it'd be sort of ok for the game to be canon.

Why not before Trevor? She could have been in the 1370's, that would make sense. Also, I think Lisa was killed before 1450.
Also, Castlevania 3 says the Belmonts have been exiled. I think vampiriv genes are a good reason to exile someone, in the eyes of the medieval people, that were mostly simpletons. Also, a woman with superhuman strength could be reason enough in those patriarchal years.

@asmodeus58XX Because that would also make lisa very very old during her execution (And she wasn't) if Alucard was old enough to appear adult in the late 1300's. The subplot of lisa's death kills Sonia's existence.
Furthermore the vampire killer whip would likely perform less efficiently (or at least differently) if wielded by a woman considering it's key ingredient is the soul of a woman who was in love with the first male of that line to use the whip.

It was really just IGA's decision to retcon Sonia from the timeline after he took over the Castlevania franchise with SotN. I attribute his decision to his extreme fondness of Castlevania 3 and Trevor Belmont specifically. He likely didn't want his favorite Belmont to be de-throned as "the first."

Well we know she was knocked up per the ending of her game, but it was never revealed who the father was. They still could have kept her canonical even with Leon. The Belmont legacy goes back to ancient times so even Sonia would be a descendant. Or maybe Konami thinks girls shouldn't wield the vampire killer. I dunno...

Castlevania Legends hints that Sonia had ALucard's child, and that would make the Belmont's half-vampires, neglecting their ability to use the vampire killer whip and stiping them of their holy power. From a story and character point of view, she conflicted with pretty much everything. Blame Konami for screwing the story of her game.

@Laveticus Too bad they can't take that one lil discrepancy out and have Alucard remain Trevor's daddy. It's so awesome cuz Trever and his kin have Dracula's blood coursing through them. Another interesting implication is that Alucard helped his son Kill Dracula; meaning Trevor killed his grandpa with the assistance of his father without even knowing it.
Is there an ISO of CV: Resurrection anywhere? The game was at a playable level, though incomplete I'd love to get my hands on it.

@Laveticus They supposedly decided to do this because LoI contradicts Sonia being the first Belmont to confront Dracula, however if you think about it in LoI Leon reached and killed Walter he never actually fought Dracula (he only exchanged words). I think it was removed because Iga didn't like the game, though they probably intend on putting a game in between 1094 and 1450 (they already did if you count the arcade/pachinco machines).

@DanceofGold I just think it's so fitting that Dracula's own power becomes his undoing. Like it betrayed him and I find this so much more epic! Also, it explains as to why the Belmont men don't need to drink blood. Her holy power and being human was enough to still keep them more human themselves. With still being able to harness there strength, kinda like Blade.

I perfectly agree. I still fit Legends into the timeline, but I do my own bit of retcon only on 2 events. 1: The 'Dracula' Sonia defeated wasn't the real count. That keeps it open for Trevor to remain the Belmont that first killed Dracula. 2: Alucard was never romantically involved with Sonia and thus not Trevor's father.

If you want a game with her that's more pleasing to the eye, may I suggest, "Castlevania Requiem of Melancholy". It's a fan-made game, but it's got way better graphics. Be warned though, it's hard as fuck!
I can totally understand wanting to play the official one with her though. I beat it and it's definately worth playing once for die-hard fans.

I didn't play it till about 2007, so I waz even ten years late, but I always wanted to know all the ancestors of Simon Belmont. I really thought Trevor waz cool too and an appropriate son to Sonia, considering he's blonde as well. Wasn't as much of a Richter fan cause I waz gettin a little annoyed about the fact they were making a lot of game characters look like Ryu from Street Fighter at the time.
But Sonia rocks! I fell in love with this character right away! They SHOULD'VE kept her.
