There is also a history of Islamists and Communists fighting each other (e.g. Soviet- Afghan war, Chechnya, Pakistan, etc.). D.) Atheists are still a big target of Islamists, especially within Muslim countries. E.) The U.S., also for cynical Cold War reasons, has supported Islamists too.
